It's good. No reason to change it.

Sorry for being a brat. I was just really hurt by your decision.
This is the Mafia Society's newsletter for the month of November 2018!
New member? Welcome! ≧◡≦ You can always introduce yourself here.
! Cross-site winter event !
The Mafia Society has joined arms with the highly popular forum mafia site Mafia Universe for an exciting winter event open to members of both communities! The Dragon Ball Super Winter Event will consist of various activities like Pokémon Showdown matches, Truth or Dare, simulwatches, Secret Santa and much more. Players will be grouped in teams and will be able to amass points by participating in those activities.
The event will be hosted in Mafia Society, with the exception of the two themed mafia games that are planned, which will be hosted in Mafia Universe. A special Discord server will be used to liven things up and will be opened to participants once the sign-ups close. Sign-ups will close on November 25th and the event will run through the whole month of December (with the exception of Christmas day).
To learn more about the upcoming festivities, check out this thread!
New club mascots and logo
Mafia Society is happy to introduce the fresh, cool, super-duper cute Magnus and Fianne! You can also call them "Ma-kun" and Fia-chan", which forms the word "Mafia" when put together. These two little folks will be showing up in the club as our new mascots. Here they are, still eager to wear their Halloween attire, but you will soon see them in their normal and holiday clothes.
Following the introduction of these mascots, Mafia Society now also has an official logo. It was designed as an emblem, and its color palette will change depending on the occasion. From now on, the new logo will be used for official Mafia Society branding such as the Discord's server icon and affiliate banners. The talented graphics staff RE is to thank for these new visuals!

Mafia Tip #15: Majority/Plurality Lynching
In most, but not all cases a player will be lynched to end or come the end of each day phase, while there is a standard method, it may not be the only applicable path.
By most standards the expected and more common method is Majority lynching though some hosts/games may opt for the alternative of Plurality lynching
Reasons can vary, either preference as per the host and/or player roster, game set-up and balance or levels of activity and allotted time.
Majority lynch can be summed up simply:
This requires a majority to be met through voting and will decide the lynch for that day phase, this will in most cases bring said phase to an end, the lynch will resolve and any applicable results will then occur.
This method usually allows for and is more welcoming of a No lynch if this is a choice.
Not reaching a majority will also typically result in a no lynch, though some players may be off put by this when they're unable to achieve lynches accordingly.
Plurality voting on the other hand:
This does not require a majority to reach a lynch and in-turn will not resolve until the end of said day phase unless other mechanics alter this.
The negative on balance comes through the power to either lynch a player with little effort and/or votes, or having too much sway in too little time for players to react accordingly if activity steeps.
Worst case scenario sees the potential of vote sniping or seeing a group of players control too much of the game if the remainder are split in their opinions or some players being left out of the action as per time-zones.
This method also leaves little room for a no lynch if some players are un-cooperative.
Over all this approach can lead to players feeling rather dissatisfied.

Prelude to Summer
It's early to say this, but it seems there's an eventful summer ahead! The staff team has already started preparations with another club to hold a joint event during the month of July. The progress is smooth, and you will learn more about this event during June. If you were around for past summer events in Mafia Society, then you know a little bit of what to expect. Otherwise, well, you're at least in for a hopefully pleasant surprise!
You can learn more here.

Fate/Scum (ongoing) hosted by ironace & Togs

No matter how many allies you gain, no matter how many enemies you slay, no matter what happens, there can be only one victor. Spectate here!
Mafia Tip #16: Self-voting
The tip of this month is self-voting!
Self-voting is the simple act of voting for yourself if the gamerules allow for it. It is quite common in mafia games, especially from players with a lot of character or who want to cause an impact. Self-voting is seen as controversial because it is argued that a townie should never vote for someone they know is a townie, in this case themselves.
There are two clear kinds of self-voting generally identified: Emotional self-voting is when a player believes their lynch to be inevitable or is frustrated at the game and decides to openly give up. This tends to be regarded as a detrimental move no matter the alignment (town or mafia) of the player.
Tactical self-voting is essentially having a deeper reason than the above. For instance, a mafia player could fake the frustration that would come from a townie who has decide to give up on escaping a lynch. That said, his tactic has been quite used over the years, and a lot of players can tell that it usually comes from a mafia player. As a townie, self-voting can be used as some sort of gambit to evaluate the reactions of other players. Self-hammering is when the player's self-vote causes his lynch to be confirmed. If a mafia player strongly believes their lynch to be inevitable, it can be effective to self-hammer in order to create confusion. It can also prevent town's ability to generate reads on what would be another player's hammering vote.

Mafia Tip #15: Shading
Quite often, in mafia games, you may encounter terms or expressions that you don't understand. To appease this frustration, this section titled "Mafia tips" will introduce you to some of the mafia terms and such that might help you speak on the same level as some other players. Hopefully, not only you will be more knowledgeable but you will also be able to use these tips in the games!
The subject of this month is Shading! Shading is a situation when someone is trying to accuse a player of being mafia.
How is it done?
Shading is different than simply accusing someone of being mafia.
A player will casually or informally mention someone, making their posts looks scummy.
This is done either directly or indirectly, though most of the time the player will be distant.
Example
Shading is almost always a mafia tactic. It's scummy, basically.
Sometimes, it's easy to catch someone throwing shade, other times not so much since townies can also make a such a post.

Mafia Tip #14: Modgaming
Quite often, in mafia games, you may encounter terms or expressions that you don't understand. To appease this frustration, this section titled "Mafia tips" will introduce you to some of the mafia terms and such that might help you speak on the same level as some other players. Hopefully, not only you will be more knowledgeable but you will also be able to use these tips in the games!
The subject of this month is Modgaming! Modgaming is analysis of a game based on who the mod is. For example, "Osie is the mod, and he likes Friendly Neighbours, so a Friendly Neighbour is a role that makes sense for this game."
Why does it matter?
If the game is closed setup and a player is analyzing it and backing up "evidences" to say facts about the set-up that players could never confirm unless they ask the mods, then it is modgaming.
Examples
Player A: "This role can do this, this, this and that because the host told me."
Player B: "This set-up definitely has 3 mafia because it is more balanced" <- though it is not necessarily modgaming but the player is putting their shoes as the host
Is modgaming a good thing, or bad?
Setupgaming, trying to figure out what the setup is and analysing what you know about the setup separately from the players, is not exclusively bad strategy, but it is very easy to get into wine. Some find it to be a fair strategy though the reliability of modgaming is usually NAI.
Behavior is important, mechanical analysis based solely on what is known is important, and then other factors come afterwards.
On the upside, it has distinct benefits for town or anti-town.
For either side, if you know about the mod's dislike or like for a particular role, you can interpret claims, you can falseclaim, and, in turn, you can gamesolve, more reliably.
For town, you can make a guess at what sort of roles scum might have. This is particularly relevant when the game has reveals, as the town can often say "Well the mod wouldn't put 2 of X role in the hands of scum."
For scum, this is actually harder and easier at the same time. On the one hand, it can make targets easier to choose, and it can help to guess at what roles town is hinting at. On the other hand, it can lead to some bad decisions, like killing a weak role with a nightkill rather than focusing on someone else, or having trouble finding a better role to claim because not as many roles mesh with your role out of things the mod would choose.
In terms of downside for town, it's so non-alignment indicative, and it can look like good analysis even when it isn't.

Mafia Tip #13: Tie Lynch Rules
Quite often, in mafia games, you may encounter terms or expressions that you don't understand. To appease this frustration, this section titled "Mafia tips" will introduce you to some of the mafia terms and such that might help you speak on the same level as some other players. Hopefully, not only you will be more knowledgeable but you will also be able to use these tips in the games!
The subject of this month is Tie Lynch Rules! In a roster-based voting system based on plurality (people with the most votes on them are lynched), a Tied Lynch is a scenario often sought or avoided depending on the current host's rules governing the situation.
Why does it matter?
In game theory, many situations tend to favour Town at the beginning of a game (allowing them extra time to gain information) but push the odds overwhelmingly in favour of the Mafia in the endgame (allowing them to avoid a lynch and gain majority through the nightkill).
Typical Rules
The following is a list of rules which can be found in previous games, ordered by frequency (most common first).
Day 1 a tie results in no lynch. Following days, a tie lynch results in a random player (within the tied ones) being lynched.
Day 1 a tie results in no lynch. Following days, a tie lynch results in all tied players being lynched.
Any day, a random player in the tie is lynched.
Any day, each player in the tie gets a separate coinflip.
(Less common, but recently favored by hosts as it allows any outcome between no lynch and all lynched)
Any day, all players with a tie are lynched.
Any day, a tie results in nobody being lynched, but all players have an additional vote against them in the following days.
The host should decide and post the rules at the start of the game (or as early as the game-design phase).
Mass Abstain
There is an extreme case, where no one votes (i.e. an empty voting roster) or equivalently everyone chooses to abstain.
In theory, this creates a tie between all players (if behind the scenes vote manipulators do not secretly influence the voting), and as such, falls under the above set rules. However, a host may override the normal tie lynch rules and set specific rules for this extreme scenario (either to encourage voting or to prevent loopholes in a game's mechanics).

Mafia Tip #12: Alignment changes
Quite often, in mafia games, you may encounter terms or expressions that you don't understand. To appease this frustration, this section titled "Mafia tips" will introduce you to some of the mafia terms and such that might help you speak on the same level as some other players. Hopefully, not only you will be more knowledgeable but you will also be able to use these tips in the games!
The subject of this month is Alignment changes!
Alignment changes, while uncommon in normal set-ups can make for rather interesting games though the mechanic can bring up the matter of balance and are in most cases considered a bastard element.
These can take the form of cults which can recruit throughout the game, or more simple ones in which there will be a one off change, this can be based on an activated ability or a passive trigger and in some cases this is hidden to the select player(s).
Such a mechanic can throw most player off their game as it can render otherwise reliable sources that check ones alignment moot when held till after information is revealed.
Once conversions such as cults become public knowledge, they hold the power to influence players to work towards dismissing their original win conditions once they believe the game favours being converted.
This may lead to questionable conduct as far as playing to ones win condition is concerned.
It can also lead to players ending up on what can feel like an undeserved loss if converted at an undesirable time.
Conversions from Mafia to another faction should however be avoided, as it is near impossible to stop the leaking of information that would ruin the game state as a whole.

Mafia Tip #11: Mountainous
Quite often, in mafia games, you may encounter terms or expressions that you don't understand. To appease this frustration, this section titled "Mafia tips" will introduce you to some of the mafia terms and such that might help you speak on the same level as some other players. Hopefully, not only you will be more knowledgeable but you will also be able to use these tips in the games!
The term of this month is Mountainous!
Mountainous is a term given to setups that have no power roles at all (in other words, no abilities for any role). The name has acquired the connotation that these games are "difficult" due to the lack of power roles helping Town. A classic mountainous setup has a 10:2 or 11:2 ratio of townies:mafia. It has long been a setup that relies exclusively on player skill. The balance of this setup is highly suspect, though, as the Town's theoretical win rate is only 33.2% - almost the same as Town winning a 2:1 situation.
Example role PMs
Welcome, [Player Name]. You are a Mafia Goon, along with your partner, [Player Name].
Abilities:
Factional communication: During the night phase you may talk with your partner here [QuickTopic link].
Factional kill: Each night phase, one of you or your partner may perform the factional kill.
Win condition:

Welcome, [Player Name], you are a Vanilla Townie.
Abilities:
Your weapon is your vote, you have no night actions.
Win condition:
You win when all threats to the town have been eliminated.

A Fresh Triumvirate
Something old, something blue, something borrowed. Does that sound like a wedding?
We're sorry to break it to you, but Mafia Society is where you kill your friends in the journey to find evil, not a place for weddings.
Still, we have a happy announcement! It's a unification! It's a triumvirate! Jackrito, our cool, mysterious, scummy leader has stepped down.
But worry not! It has been unanimously decided that Suzune-chan, Kaitou, and Crossbell will be stepping up to lead the club together. They have put themselves forward when MS needed them, and showed how much they care for the club. Please throw confetti to their feet and shower them with love~
Now, a few words from our newly elected leaders:
They have been with us from the start, and now they have to go.
Jackrito, for all the dedication, love and attention you've put into the club since its creation, thank you. You've held on when it was rough, and you've held on even when you couldn't. You've led it, and made it a place we all come to love and we will never forget that.
Soren, you have meticulously put in a lot of effort to make the club better. You've made members feel welcomed and allowed us to find ourselves at our own pace, while keeping a cool vibe in the club. There hasn't been a side of MS that did not receive a touch of yourself, with each build of MS lies a touch of your dedication, and hard work.
Alice, our queen, our mother, our sister, our family. You've loved us and welcomed us from everywhere. You see good when we see bad, and made a place so comfy that we returned again and again. You were a terrific player, a great moderator and the best mentor anyone could ever hope for.
Every now and then life gets the best of us, and we will have to face it head on. We can't be there for you every step of the way, to our regret. Still we hope you're as fierce and tenacious as you face forward in life.
There will always be a place for you in MS. Tell us the stories of how you slice life with your swords, or maybe take a tea break with us sometimes and let us strengthen your weapons so you'd be ready to fight enemies again.
Will miss you always.
Our best wishes, Mafia Society

Mafia Tips #10: Kingmaker
Quite often, in mafia games, you may encounter terms or expressions that you don't understand. To appease this frustration, this section titled "Mafia tips" will introduce you to some of the mafia terms and such that might help you speak on the same level as some other players. Hopefully, not only you will be more knowledgeable but you will also be able to use these tips in the games!
The term of this month is Kingmaker!
There are two meanings to the term Kingmaker.
A
A Kingmaker is a player who can influence a faction's win but unable to win himself. In many important instances, they decide which faction wins. In cases involving Survivors, a Kingmaker might be guaranteed to win, instead of incapable of winning.
Kingmaker are often associated with Dilemma scenarios such as:
(Assuming that the identities of scum players (or just townies) are known.)
Three-player endgame:One Townie, one Mafioso, and one Serial Killer. Four-player endgame:Two Townies, one Mafioso, and one Serial Killer. Five-player endgame:One Townie, and two Mafiosi each from different factions. Six-player endgame:Two Townies and two Mafiosi each from different factions.
An example of this in MS would be the endgame for The Ultimate Anime Showdown 2
where town Mkim was the decisive vote between two mafia of opposite faction.
A Kingmaker game is another type of Mafia variant.
In this setup, players votes for a King each day, and "The King" gets to decide who they want lynched.
Therefore votes does not officially matter to decide on a lynch.
A Kingmaker play was recently added as an active ability in Mafia Senki game.
