btw..i think it's cool you can play the cello..and im trying to learn japanese as well..
Also take your time with the series. I too have a long plan-to-watch list and am currently watching multiple series.
Well if you reeeally dislike younger yuri, it limits your options quite a bit. I'll (edit: look behind your shoulder before clicking) leave this here, maybe you'll find something interesting there. I watched one episode of Strawberry Panic and had to close my browser tab because of the cringe. I can watch both shoujo and yuri, but when you put the two together, it just becomes a cringy cliché. Yuru yuri is something I'm going to watch in the future, since it has that ever beloved moe aspect.
One show I'd like to add that wasn't on that list, is Sakura Trick. It is a comedy/slice of life/romance about two "highschool" girls trying to keep their friendship special by taking it a step further (and then trying to keep it a secret). The show is more cute than sexual, however the oral hugs get quite intense at times. It never progresses into the NSFW, so maybe knowing that their appearances won't bother. Still make sure no one sees your monitor.
Two other shows that I know, Fate/Kaleid and Kiss x Sis, however these two are pretty much "action" instead of romance (Kiss x Sis is basically a hentai)
Hibike! Euphonium is not a yuri per se (or a romance by that matter), but it has girls with very close relationships. It's a very good show overall, if you like slice of life, moe and VERY good visuals and audio.
So basically, I'm not really familiar with the adult-like yuri anime, so if that's what you're looking for I hate to disappoint. I'm sure they're out there, just try to look for ones targeted towards women. But if you're looking for a good fap nosebleed, I'm your man ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
I'm not really interested in Yaoi/Yuri for romance purposes, as that part, like you said, is not usually very well done. I've seen some yuri and it's some good shit indeed, but yaoi is really not for me - I don't swing that way (not that there's anything wrong with that :P). It's pretty difficult to enjoy a romance, when you don't want to be in that scenario.
I might try reading manga, but I'll have to see what my local library has to offer. I don't want to buy manga when I don't know if it's for me. One of the biggest points that I like in anime, is the visuals. Manga lacks the color and animation, so I fear that will be a turnoff.
Some romance anime that you haven't (?) seen: Sukitte Ii na yo. (Say I Love You) and Lovely★Complex. SILY has a shy female protagonist and a strong/charming male love interest. This one would be the girlier of the two, as it focuses on the drama and romance aspect almost 100%. Lovely★Complex is more comedic, with the two main characters not getting along and fighting etc. It does get the romance going though, but is overall a bit more lighthearted.
If you want, I'd be happy to recommend other anime as well. Now that it's summer vacation I have nothing better to do anyway lol. I'll at least try Hana yori Dango and see if it's worth my time. (time that is not very valuable at the moment :P)
Where are you from? Not stated on your profile :)
