Hello, and welcome to my profile. My name is LordRadical and I am glad you've decided to visit me.
[spoiler]I drop shows when I can't tolerate them anymore. If it was good and it dropped the ball, it's okay. If it's bad and shows signs of improvement, it's okay. If it's bad and there's no sign of improvement, I'm dropping it.
Alternatively, if I fall asleep during an episode/movie/etc., I'm dropping it and giving it a final score of 3. It doesn't matter how well it held my attention before or how good it supposedly gets later, falling asleep mid-viewing is not something I do often nor is it easy to make me do. The only exception is the Aria franchise.
It is my firm opinion that all things have merit. Simultaneously, all things have failings. My scores are an examination of a title's strengths as compared to its faults, both in how noticeable they are and how many there are.
My scores are purely critical in nature, and I don't rate things low because I "hate" them or in order to look "cool." I don't have the energy to hate that thing you like nor am I cool. I rate things low because I think they're bad. Not that I don't necessarily like them, but they're bad. And if I rate everything a high score, it doesn't make a high score special. My scores have little to do with my personal opinion of the series barring the scores of 2 and 1.

Rating scale:
1. The worst. It fulfills all the requirements of a 2 score but in addition has something I find particularly objectionable outside the ordinary. Most often, the objectionable content is the general lack of giving a damn on the part of the creators. It could be an aversion to risks (can't kill yo waifus), insulting to the audience (those stupid little 2-minute shorts in DVD releases), or otherwise.
2. Horrible. It has no redeeming qualities and fails on the most basic levels of narrative, presentation, resonance, impact, everything really.
3. Very bad. Its weaknesses are high in number and highly noticeable, but it's not all bad. It has something going for it. Maybe a good character or good technical qualities. This is the worst something can be while still having redeeming qualities.
4. Bad. It has weaknesses that outweigh its strengths in a rather noticeable way, but it has some things going for it too. I don't recommend anything at this level but if you want to check it out there might be something for you. This is generally where I put something I find boring. Even something mediocre should hold interest.
5. Mediocre. It's not good, it's not bad; it's just there. Rather forgettable, really. It could have strengths and weaknesses, but more often it doesn't have anything. It's nothing.
6. Decent. It's not good, it's not bad; it's just okay. It's memorable, but there's nothing really standout about it except maybe technical qualities or a certain charm it may have.
The difference between a 5 and a 6 is thus: a 5 has little good or bad content and a 6 has a noticeable amount of good and bad content. A 5 is generally something that plays it safe while a 6 is generally something that experiments and makes mistakes doing so.
7. Good. The strengths of the title are either more apparent or more numerous than its weaknesses. It has things going for it, but some things holding it back that can't be ignored. I do recommend things at this point, but be warned these titles do have flaws that can turn people off. You get out of it what you put into it.
8. Very good. At this point, the strengths are greater in magnitude and quantity than its weaknesses, but still not to the extent they could be. I recommend any title in this score but there still may be reason not to watch/read it for some people.
9. Exemplary. It has numerous and/or highly noticeable strengths with only a few small flaws that get in the way of entertainment. This is usually where "title of the year" is rated.
10. Masterpiece. Every one of these titles should be looked at and deserve the highest amounts of praise. There may or may not be such a thing as perfect, but these are very close in any case. Any one of these titles are worth the time put into them numerous times over.
Long in short:
1-4: Skip it.
5-6: Check it out, I guess.
7-8: Go for it.
9-10: Go watch/read it. Right now.
That's awesome. Here in Australia, no one really celebrates Halloween. Although it's a nice excuse to change my profile to something seasonal. When Christmas comes around, I want change my picture to Santa Yui.
