Omg lol no see or talk:P Haha yeh I though you were dead man, I was worried:P
But I found Monster very good, I gave it a 10, it had all the right elements of a crime solving story and great chracter depth, and history as well. You will enjoy it trust me. Yeah I know the story and characters still have alot of work but I'll be glad to take your advice. After all I tld you cuz i wanted to see what you would think so thanks, I will be sure to take your ideas and forward them into my story.

And yeah I love the mentalist haha and I get what you mean, it can't just be some simple crime solving story with no ability at solving the crime.

But its good to hear from you again, I really though you died or something haha:P But thanks for the help and reply bk soon.

Ciao

Of course, as soon as you're back on MAL, I have a weird couple of weeks and thus this late reply. :P End of the summer madness, I guess.

I've heard that the first season of Higurashi was all WTF and the second was all the answers, though I also hear that the first is better than the second, so who knows. Umineko recently finished its first arc and now seems to be repeating the idea of Higurashi, which kind of disappoints me. Like I said, I think I just want to see a classic mystery rather than this weird infinite loop thing. I also think I'd probably appreciate both series more if I actually played visual novels, but I don't, so oh well.

10+ sketches a day really isn't that big a deal, lol. I don't start classes again until mid-September and am woefully unemployed at the moment, so I try to spend as much time as possible drawing. (Honestly, I think I'm not drawing nearly enough since I'm easily distracted by a ton of other things I want to do.) And yeah, some of the sketches included real people caricatured.

I know what you mean about dividing emotions down from general to more specific. Like "furious" and "scandalized" could probably both fit under "anger" but offer pretty different expressions. The next character I wanted to work with is a prettyboy of mine -- I've always had trouble finding some kind of balance between what makes him look feminine and his personality, which isn't actually that feminine. In reality, he's probably more "a snobby rich guy with long hair" than "girly," but that's difficult to get across in appearances alone. I figure the expressions exercise would help me find some kind of consistency, among other things. Unfortunately, it seems like I've put the expressions exercises on hold for now since I've got a lot of other things to worry about. Will resume eventually though.

I pretty much started drawing from the time I could hold a pencil. The only real advice I can offer is the same old "practice" routine, but it's very true. You just have to force yourself to keep drawing, no matter what you think of your own skill level. The more you do it, the better you get. I've never been too good with looking to books for reference, but I do think that they often skip over the importance of drawing from life. For anime/manga fans especially, the urge to mimic a style they see is intense, but it's really fundamental to look at real life first. If you can draw what's real, then stylization is no problem -- it's easy to exaggerate things a certain way. On the other hand, if you focus too much on a style, it becomes difficult to get out of it, and it's troublesome when you don't understand stylistic decisions you make because you based them off someone else. Does that make sense?

I just finished my review of The Sky Crawlers, though it's admittedly kind of vague as far as the themes go. Kusanagi and Kannami's relationship was mostly hinged on the fact that Kusanagi was desperate for it not to repeat itself since she's seen at least one other iteration of Kannami and knew that each of them were doomed to repeat it forever, pretty much regardless of how many times they'd each died. The strongest theme I found in the movie was centered around complacency and a stagnant society that was unwilling to change. They've always had war, so they can't get rid of it even if it's completely meaningless, etc.

Glad to hear you're enjoying GitS: SAC and Planetes! SAC is definitely my favorite part of the GitS franchise and Planetes is one of the most wowing sci-fi anime I've seen just for the realism. Planetes also really picks up in its second half, so let me know what you think!

Finally got bk lol thank God....I watched 15 episodes of anime since getting bk saturday night, caught up on the series i missed.

OH yeah about the psychological thriller i'm making, umm well have u ever seen the anime Monster??

If u haven't u can check about it but its about a boy whom i haven't came up with a name with yet lol..anyways its about a boy who's parents were murdered by a serial killer when he was 9 years old. Before the murderer got to his mother and father they hid him in a cabinet under the sink and as he looked out of a small hole in the door he watched as his parents were murdered and the image of the killer was forever imprinted in his mind. But his parents weren't the only victims as the murderer killed his brother. The only people who didn't die that night was himself and his 6 month year old baby sister who was taken by the murderer.

Now 12 years later he is a detective and a lawyer, lol i don't even know if thats possible but i thought it would be interesting. Spurred on by the events 12 years ago is what made him become a detective so that he can hunt down his family's killer and find out the truth about what happened to his baby sister.

He is the youngest ever detective/lawyer in Japan that has solved 38 cases without any of them going cold. His 100% success rate has made him popular in the law world and he has had many calls from overseas seeking his assistance but has turned them all down.

His charasima which attractes people to him has helped him pick up a few friends along his journey. One of them is a women and the other two are men. They are from the same unit as him and they work for him.

Now on a late Friday night a call has come in about a murder and he goes to check it out. But what he finds there shocks him. The family members were all killed the same way in which his family was. There fingers and toes cut off and they are hung and there throats are split. But what shocks him most is what is written on the bodies. The writing says, "This is just the beginning, I will slaughter hundreds and thousands more just like i did to your family boy."

All of those years that have went by the killer has known that he did not kill all of the children the fateful night 12 years ago.

Now spurred on by his obssession to find the killer and get revenge for his family he begins a journey that will take him to many unknown places, threw many trials and betrayals.

But he must choose his friends closely and watch his back as the people he once trusted aren't so trustworthy anymore.

But with his super intuition and guts to do anything for the sake of his goal he finds that a goal that once seemed so far away is not as far away as he once thought.

Its good that u started GTO, i too was a bit skeptical about it when i began watching it.

I don't have much time right cuz i got to go sleep but i'll tell u about my psychological thriller tommorow when i get home. Later..
yusuke116 Aug 1, 2009 2:11 PM

lol, I"m just logged into MAL all the time (since I obsessively keep my lists up-to-date) and get emailed when someone posts on my profile. :P

No, I never finished Higurashi, but I did have my brother explain the rest of the series to me -- it seemed like it had a neat idea, just an irritating execution. Most of the girls annoyed me in that I found their creepy quirks aggravating rather than intriguing or mysterious. I didn't sympathize with the protagonist much either; I guess it was his overt innocence? Not sure. I'm watching Umineko now though (another mystery by the same people) and am enjoying it much more, probably because it's a more classic feeling "Who dun it?" mystery.

The 100 fullbody sketches was an exercise I'd been wanting to do for a while and something I might do again eventually, though I'm not sure if I'll be taking requests again or just doing my own stuff. That batch took me about three weeks to do. Some days I'd do like 10+ sketches; some days I didn't do any, lol.

I'm not as happy with the expressions piece. I'm actually not all that sure how many of those expressions should count as "fundamental" since many of them could be depicted similarly, which also resulted in me having a really hard time coming up with faces. 25 feels like overkill, but it's a good exercise anyway. I'm definitely going to repeat it with a few different characters.

I haven't heard of Eminence but any orchestra that plays fandom music is automatically awesome. XD Have you heard the Nico Nico Orchestra? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVFaCuSqVCI

By the way, I saw The Sky Crawlers last night. Enjoyed it a lot. Will try to review it in the near future. (In the meantime, if you're interested, a buddy of mine wrote a pretty awesome post about it a while ago.)
yusuke116 Jul 20, 2009 2:28 PM
Oh i see, well thats too bad then. LOL yeah. I'm on my way to becoming a full fledged otaku.

I actually have two manga's that I'm working on, one is a shounen and the other is a phycological thriller, it has a more serious attitude to it than the other. I am about half way threw on the plot for each of them. I have the chapters written down in a black n white book consisting of 35 pages for both of my series.

Lol no, i graduated from high school couple weeks ago so. I nah going to college until next year so. I going study law. But i goung keep working on my manga and watching anime while i there so.
yusuke116 Jul 16, 2009 12:30 PM
really thinkng and was trying to accomplish so i just accepted it as his style and moved past it lol
yusuke116 Jul 16, 2009 12:29 PM
lol what r u so busy with anyways? If u don't mind me asking. I watch anime everyday even though somedays i have to work for a while. I try to watch like 15 episodes a day or so and if i start watching a series that i like alot i'll try to finish it in a day or 2 if it is 26 episodes long. If it has alot of episodes like +50 i try to finish it in a week. Since its summer and i just graduated i have nothing much to do. I'm Jamie by the way and I'm 16. But like i was saying since i don't have much to do now i'm trying to finish alot of series. How old r u anyways. You see i'm practically obssessed with anime and at the moment i'm working on my own manga. I have the storyline and chapter plots ready but I'm still trying to perfect my drawing. But i watch anime everyday regardless of the circumstances. lol and ur not boring me, ur like the only person i tlk to besides my occasion chat with one of my other friends. Yeah i thought that was a problem with bakumatsu too but its hard to know what the manga creator was
kiriska Jul 16, 2009 12:13 PM
I do think that a lot of my "unhelpful" feedbacks are from people who disagree with me, but I'm not arrogant enough to assume that there aren't people who probably think they're poorly written or cluttered or entirely too lengthy as well. XD Still, I think it's interesting to note that my Death Note manga review is more highly regarded than my Death Note anime review because I was much more critical of the anime, which seems equally popular compared to the manga.

Yeah, one of the reasons I've yet checked out Fruits Basket despite continual recommendations from various friends is because I don't think much of the art at all and just can't see myself stomaching through it. Similarly, I ended up dropping Higurashi a while back partially because the art seriously irked me (though in that case, many of the characters also annoyed me.)

My deviantART and website are both linked from my profile, lol, but here's the dA. :)

The MAL entry for X is here. My review of it is on that page as well. :3 But yes! Princess Mononoke was definitely epic. You're so lucky that you got to hear it performed! My school bands have never been as awesome. XD
kiriska Jul 10, 2009 7:49 PM
Oh, you're right, he can only take the bodies of animals... seems like pretty faulty logic to me as I find it difficult to believe that a technical ability would distinguish between animals and humans since humans are animals too, but I guess since we never learned too much about how they got the powers, etc, it's still plausible...

I definitely agree that it's worth it to occasionally read reviews that differ from your own views, and people should always mark "helpful" what they think are well-written reviews, regardless of whether or not they agree -- I think too many people are just quick to judge reviews as "unhelpful" just because they don't agree with the scoring or certain points the author makes.

As for the art thing, I am more apt to notice bad art than decent or average art and sometimes even very good art. Maybe it's because I'm an artist myself, but if something isn't aesthetically pleasing enough to me, I tend to focus on it to the point of distraction, which sometimes starts to take away from the actual story or characters. But you're right, the art should always suit the story, etc, and I do tend to be more forgiving towards older works since animation techniques and quality has changed a lot and popular styles of art have also evolved. And yeah, when something is really good, it always draws me in (in 5 cm per second, it was so pretty, it was distracting. XD).

Music always seems to be one of those things with a lasting effect, especially in series where there's one particular theme that just stays in your head. I think the X TV series is a great example of that -- it has some of the most epic and beautiful scores that I'll remember forever and ever, but the story execution and plot is very forgettable.
yusuke116 Jul 10, 2009 6:59 PM
lol thats cool and yeah check it out later on. Bakumatsu kikansetsu is really good in my opinion, it has a good overall plot and there are alot of conspiracy's going on in the japanese government as well and other samurai groups r also involve like the shinsengumi as it all revolves around an ancient device known as the "Lords Head" which the main character akidsuki is destined to destroy. And yeah i've heard of it and i'll be sure to add it to my list so thanks, i'll probally watch it after i finish with the samurai series.
yusuke116 Jul 7, 2009 1:22 PM
lol haha i'll take that as a compliment;p but yeah ur missing on something great. And i'll make a note of what u said about true tears so thanks. I'm finding basilik hard to get into right now and i'm on episode 6 but i'm watching hajjime no ippo and bakumatsu kikansetsu both of which i rate highly and heap I praise on both. And yeah GTO was hilarious and its one of my favs and i'm sure you'll grow to like it. I also recommend the two other series i mentioned above though i don't know if hajjime no ippo will peak ur interest since its about boxing but ur welcome to give it a try:)
