i also thought 2014 had some good shows
the only things i can think of that might fit that description, and only barely, are sakamoto desu ga which is mostly comedy based on the fact that the MC is so perfect that he can do basically anything because he's so cool.
the other would be mob psycho 100, in which it's debatable whether the lead is 'strong', since he's a troubled kid, but he does look to improve himself which is cool. in a battle he's fuckin badass. The highschool setting isn't static. there's a lot of other places they go, so idk if i consider it an 'anime set in high school'.
they're both quite good shows imo, though i'm not sure they're exactly what you're looking for. I just don't really watch many of those kinds of shows. I hear 'the world god only knows' is a good show like that, but i haven't seen it so i'm not sure.
waster. I dont really know why I was recommended it by two people, I don't really see the hype, but I think there are good things about it.
I think I'll keep watching it though.
Hope you find something you enjoy, and I'm glad you decided to write
not everyone likes to write about anime or art in general. i just find it really satisfying to figure out why i like or dislike something. Seriously, writing about why some mindgames work (like in death note) and others don't (like classroom) made me feel more powerful than Kira himself lol.
even then, little tidbits about any thoughts you have would be nice
Yeah man be sure to write about them to me if you do.
Maid dragons a great show. My favs gurren lagann, but I recently watched madoka and it became a favourite.
Yeah I hear that shows pretty cool. I've watched a tiny bit of seasonals this time around, but I'm really behind on both since I'm pretty into beck right now.
Anyway the seasonals I'm watching right now are inuyashiki and net-juu susume. They're both ok
Still think horikita's cool though.
Yeah, there are probably some of my favourites you wouldn't care about at all, and that's ok. I don't think you would like FLCL or Gurren Lagann that much. you can watch 'em if you want to see what the shows i like a lot are like.
At least we both love maid dragon haha.
yeah, i ended up not liking the show. It started out as like a 6-7 and quickly fell down to the 3-4 range.
A good example of a mindgame in anime for me is something like the battles between Kira and L. It's easy to see how a magical killing book and the best detective in the world is appealing from the get-go. It's simple and freeform enough so that the players in these games have legitimate autonomy and the rules are easy to understand to the viewers because they're basically synonymous with the laws of the world, so they make sense why they're in place. Yojikyo just kinda throws a bunch of shit at you and then the students just talk about what they'll do without explaining why those rules are so important to the show as a whole. it's just kinda a general game to challenge them in teamwork and nothing more.
so yeah, i don't really seeing myself getting that into these later episodes.
