Katekyo Hitman Reborn was an important part of my early teenager years, so it has a spot in my heart.
Now, almost 8-9 years later, I started to rewatch the series with wholly different mindset and a critical eye - kinda-.
Well, KHR has some insteresting and quite original plot series going on. It starts as one thing, silly comedy and absurd daily situations with Tsuna and their friends - that you can't take seriously at all-. Then it gets darker slowly with the beginning of the first saga and the apparition of the very first villain boss. As the story progresses, they give you
...
insights of important details that substain the plot.
There's something to the art style and characters that made the anime really eye-catchy for me. But yeah, also my main problem comes from the characters, i mean, i love them but oh dear, i have so much to say about them, starting with the girls.
They have no purpose, no wishes, no thoughts, not a clear role, they don't feel natural at all, they're just there, to do the cleaning, cooking, be saved and hope for Tsuna to be ok. I mean, i can't believe these characters were made by a woman.
My other problem was the lack development of some characters, like Hibari, Ryohei, Mukuro, Chrome, Lambo (i think all the characters are on this list except from Tsuna, Gokudera and maybe Yamamoto along Lal Mirch).
I'll focus on Hibari to make my point. He has an outstanding personality and qualities, such as being the strongest guardian, being a sadistic cold - and sexy -bastard, and being in love for Namimori for some strange reason. That's it. We don't get to know anything else about him, the reasons behind his character, his motivations, his thougths, his relationships, his family, anything. He's plain in his construction.
And this is the main issue with many of the characters.

There's no spoilers here, don't worry.
Well well, i don't remember clearly what i saw first, the manga or the adaptation.
Anyway, GO AND READ THE MANGA, the experience is defintetly superior. But, do it after you read Magi, i made the mistake of reading it before and well, i gave myself some interesting and not totally wanted spoilers lol.
The adaptation is decent to say at least. They chopped a few parts of important information along the series, parts that i considered important for all the people that didn't read the manga (Such as Sinbad's very first negotiation). Those parts helped greatly to understand the setting and
...
the actions of the characters.
Also, because of some extra fighting scenes they added in certain capthers, i felt that Sinbad seemed even stronger and bolder than in the manga.
That was at least my perception of the 5-6 first episodes. In the other half of the anime, things got better and the adaptation feel sincronized to the manga. The last caps were my faves, it left me hanging for more! Because, boi, all the sagas that came next until the end, are worth an adaptation.

First time doing a -wannabe- review sooo, here's it!
Enjoyement and symbolism:
Why i couldn't see this anime when i was much younger and discovered it this year? Oh lord, my 10-12 year old self needed something like this, something to break all the fairy tale standars, the gender and sexuality rules imposed in her head, to make her feel powerful - and revolutionary lol- to forge her own path.
I enjoyed it a lot, but sometimes my head hurt from trying to understand all the symbolism, elements and speeches on each capther. At some point, i stopped doing it, made myself relax and enjoy the ride
...
without thinking so much (at the end i started to do my research).
Art:
I usually don't like this super idealized style made of extremely thin bodies, long limbs, sharps faces and big eyes, were the face and bodie types don't vary much. But after 3 capthers i got used to it and started to like it! The animation makes it all better.
I must admit it though, i'm still surprised of the fact that there were two main dark skinned characters! (Akio and Anthy). That weirded me out at first, because it's an old anime, shojo, with super idealized bodies and japanese beauty standars, but there's TWO MAIN DARK SKINNED CHARACTERS.
Extra points for you Utena.
Sound:
Absolutely loved the soundtracks and the songs played in the duels, nothing much to say, just that they make you feel REVOLUTIONARY (lmao)
Character:
I could talk and talk about all the characters for hours, but i have assigments to do and writing in english can get tiring.
Their designs are great, their personalities are interesting and the development of each one during the whole series is captivating as well, concluding with their own internal revolution.
Revolutionary Girl Utena can get REALLY weird and hard to understand sometimes, but it's part of the experience. It's one of the best things i've saw this year, so GO FOR IT! And feel revolutionary in the mean time.
