There's tons of shit I haven't added either out of lazyness, because I watched them too long ago and have to remember, or because I just don't remember to add them, so my list is far from complete.
Plus you know the old school art style looks so much more appealing then all the digital bullshit of today, but Im thinking of renewing my hulu plus subscription and getting back into watching some stuff since I was on a huge binge like 2 years ago but kinda became bored of anime for awhile.
I've only read the original manga for Battle Angel and it is easily one of my favorites of all time, I wanted to read Freeman as well but finding the translated full version is quite difficult.
As far as OVAs go, I really enjoy the Gunsmith Cats one, Battle Angel Alita, Angel Cop, Armitage III, Crying Freeman, Dirty Pair, Dominion Tank Police and so many more.
Always thought that was a bit peculiar. Guess Nagano wanted to do venture into WWII fiction at some point. Lachesis must not have been trying seeing that they lost that battle. Kind of hard to picture what Nagano would do for the WWII diversion, much less something like The Cockpit, seeing how extravagant his designs and even stories have been. Agreed it would have been interesting though.
Did say it was a pipe dream. Yeah, I doubt the manga is ending any time soon, especially since the GTM retcon. That's why I like how Nagano laid out the timeline at the start and is just fleshing out the events and filling in the gaps as he goes. This way, even unfinished, it doesn't feel like I'm missing too much from the narrative.
Resin kits look nice with a lot of prep work and paint, but they're still static pose. There's pretty much only two manufacturers for plastic FSS kits: Wave and Volks. Wave 1/100 kits are shit by all accounts I've read. Their 1/144 are OK, but proportions are off from the ones I've seen. Volks 1/144 is pretty much non-existent. Their 1/100 IMS line is probably the best choice for a plastic-injection kit. As for price, the resin kits aren't too bad as far as resin kits go. Wave 1/144 are more than double the price of HG, and poorer quality. Volks 1/100, while not as detailed, is comparable high-end MG kits like the Sazabi, so the price isn't too extravagant. About $90 plus shipping depending on where you live. I got tempted while reading FSS and ordered a 1/100 Bang Doll.
I mean, Tomino isn't too active himself these days. Nagano just seems to avoid anime for the most part. Other than GTM, he's only ever been involved in designs. I've read that he didn't like the FSS OVA, but it's always hearsay and I've never seen the interview where he says that or any kind of source.
But yeah, I don't think his style would go over well with the modern audience. I didn't mean a modern take though, but rather a continuation of the OVA, however improbable.
Did the anime have different character designs? I remember the headliners looking pretty similar to manga designs at least. FSS could really use a longer adaptation. OVA stopped right before things turn for the epic. Though if it were to be made now, Nagano would probably force the GTM stuff, whether they exist or not.
I do like Clotho as well. As far as the three fates' designs go, my preference is probably Atropos (especially as A.T.)>Clotho=Lachesis. Clotho's last fight at Atork was amazing though. Also forgot about Queen as one of my favorites. She's just really badass, which is attractive to me. Shizu is still the best overall though. Gotta envy Muse, who gets to Bang Doll Shizu and Aisha.
Engage Octaver is awesome. Don't think I've seen it in action yet though. Really wish they made more snap-fit kits for FSS. Most of them only exist in resin, which is a bitch to deal with.
Been rereading FSS. Favorite MH/Fatima (or GTM/AF if you prefer)? I'd probably go with Vatshu, Siren R, or Bang Doll. KOG is pretty badass in action too, but the unwieldy head is kind of silly when stationary. Fatima, design-wise I'd go with the oriental-looking ones like Shizu, but personality, Lachesis normal appearance is pretty adorable.
I don't usually follow sources, but I can recognize good artstyle when I see it. I do know Joy Ride though. Yeah, T-Rex has a good track record. Really liked Dropout, but that was quite early in the year. Not sure if EDGE is pure production or animation as well, since their shows are few and inconsistent in quality. Seems they contracted T-Rex for Utea at least, and I enjoyed that one. Haven't seen Imakara Atashi yet. Haven't been on top of things lately. Actually looking forward to Shoujo Ramune. Forgot if you were into loli or not.
Yuri mecha - Regalia? Can't remember if there's another one. I've been following it. Pretty mediocre. No good mecha recently. Delta bombed hard after the first half or so. Started out a slightly more serious AKB0048, ended up worst Macross by far. IBO opened decently. Watched most of the other mecha shows, but nothing notable.
Shit man, I see you've also experienced the disappointment that is Shiiku x Kanojo. Watched anything good recently? Nothing particularly stood out these months, but I really enjoyed JK Bitch ni Shiboraretai. Might be a bit too vanilla for you.
