OUTDATED, this is my new one. ( Dec. 21, 2011 )

- RATING SYSTEM -
— Unwatchable —
anime that I stopped watching after 5 minutes in. pick up an hour after or the day after
and watch the whole episode or skip around. then drop for real for being unwatchable.
[related: Brotman's Law]
e.g.
> an anime that start's out with barely interesting "glimpse on the character's life"(read: a shot of him/her having a monologue that reveals nothing about the plot or his/her character or zero humor or personality, or if it does reveal, but the backdrop is not interesting)
(Maken-Ki gets a pass, the character is sexy, she tells us a bit about her, the backdrop look great, I was distracted enough until the actual plot and premise gets introduced)
> also includes anime filled with nothing but filler scenes (or development that seem like fillers) on the first scenes... ecchi gets NO pass here, especially if the situations are ridiculous or goes on for extended periods.
> "Bitter Pill" anime's consisting of exaggerated fanservice/humor that just crosses the line twice.
(To Love Ru get's a pass due to it's variety in character types: there's something for everyone!.)
— "Why Did I Even Bother?" —
barely interesting anime that i seeked scenes on only to find more barely interesting scenes.
e.g.
> A decent ecchi series that fails to develop characters/do tired fanservice cliches with little twists most of the time.
(Date A Live: Hmm, imouto huh? why does she seem so exaggerated to the point of parody? hm, brief Out of Character... somethings up... eh, some more cliches and BOOM, cue reveal then I love her now, the other Yuki Nagato V.6.9 was predictable though... then she gets her own reveal. interracial plot is then introduced, then a hilariously bad and redundant info dump serves as the ED. now the humor has me sold)
> see "bitter pill", but less bitter.
— "Get On With It Already!"—
barely interesting anime that I had to seek scenes on to find something interesting to watch.
e.g.
> Protagonists: Y U SO CLICHE?
(huge reason why I LOVE Hentai Ouji to Warawanai Neko, they put interesting twists to anime stock characters.)
> okay, I get the gist of the plot but why doesn't it feel that there's much at stake? maybe perhaps so the MC can just sit around on the next ep having small talk with the rest of the introduced cast? maybe that damn "Great/Ancient Evil/Danger" won't get triggered until the protagonists are ready.
(Maoyuu Mao Yuusha: hmm, done to death evil overlord plot poked fun of, killing the conflict mentioned and stated to have A HUGE impact on the status quo, Main Girl has backpain inducing racks... normally a turnoff, but seems to have good plot. I'm sold)
— Bad —
anime i had to force myself into finishing (at which i may drop at any point as well)
can also something watchable only for the sake of passing time.
> Formula type(something double life stuff: go to school, kick ass when not in school, back to school, rinse repeat) anime's, Star Driver gets a pass here, interesting main character(who is so ridiculously campy he's like a metrosexual Devil May Cry Dante), campy(wear ridiculous clothes, needlessly theatrical) enemies, unique mecha designs, good looking backdrops. very hard to hate. contrast Blood-C, which is so dull you'd want just skip to the fight scenes>ending to finish it.
— Lackluster —
anime that has epic moments but I still forced myself to finish due to general bad execution or slow pace outside its moments.
e.g. most of the things I tag with too slow.
> also anime that are supposedly nothing special... if only it didn't have me cursing/groaning/yawning/bashing at my screen due to how the plot progresses.
— Nothing Special —
anime that i could have found average, if only it didn't have glaring shortcomings.
> most anime here HAD promise. and then they screw up...
BADLY
to put it briefly, the show's premise had a solid framework, the problem was how they built the story around said framework. Also counts when they promise awesomeness and promptly pull out random crap from the left field and Derail the story and Jump the Shark.
— Average—
anime that I find enjoyable but i could not stand watching one episode after another.
> These anime have a low chance of getting dropped. anything I rate with this most likely have some WTF moments that break Suspension of Disbelief or anime that have very balanced ups and downs, in other words, so okay they're average.
— Enjoyable —
anime that I enjoyed and can watch 3 episodes of in one sitting. Due to my high tolerance to cliches and low standards on action. I have lots of anime given this rating. though chances are, these anime are just around 5 on others.
— Excellent —
anime that I ENJOYED SO MUCH I had to marathon it. nothing to do with the anime's actual "quality" as defined by elitists. I rate based on enjoyment. anime may be art, but like any other art form, it doesn't have to be "true" art to be good.
— Epic —
anime i consider as "Excellent" AND great for what it is. [related: Ebert's Law, use Find (Ctrl+F)]
e.g. an ecchi anime with crappy plot BUT has great pacing, epic and really titillating
fanservice and hot character design.
OR
An anime with well rounded characters (as in they have dreams and pasts which we actually see rather than simply told that they do) , a consistent and hence believable setting, clear plot progression. engaging villains with clear goals and meaningful pasts. everything important is foreshadowed clearly but not in an in-your-face way. clever uses of chekhov's guns (not necessarily objects, people/events count too).

General Tags
visual basic — low quality animation for it's time. yes, i drop series based on animation quality.
too slow — show progresses too slowly for my taste.
didn't watch the prequel(s) — literally. can also mean "Won't Watch".
So Bad it's Good — it sucks bad, but because of that, it's good.
Stylistic Suck — anime that uses low cost/quality production techniques on purpose.
Cliche Storm — uses a lot of cliches, but is still strangely not sickening.
Cliche Disaster — the worse brother of Cliche Storm: it actually makes the show suck.
Lazy Animation — screw drawing each frame! just move the character frame around and just pretend they're moving! the audience won't notice!
Falling from heights can't kill unless convenient to plot — pretty self-explanatory don't ya think?
TV Series:Compression: The Movie — a movie made by slapping together scenes from all 24 episodes of an anime with no or insignificant additions. something like M Night's Last Airbender.
Unexpected Depth — deceptively cutesy/humourous for a somewhat serious story.
Idiot Plot — The plot moves because someone in the cast makes a stupid decision.
Surrounded by Idiots — Many people make stupid decisions.
I am Disappoint — A show I regret rating low due to it having potential.
Breather Episodes — Fanservice episodes precede a major turn in the plot.
Shaggy Dog Story — a plot with a high level of build-up and complicating action, only to be resolved with an anti-climax or ironic reversal, usually one that makes the entire story meaningless. (definition from TvTropes)
Cliche as Premise — exactly what it says. example: Be careful what you wish for plots, 2 gamers in a couch (in Seitokai no Ichizon's case, 4 girls and a guy in a room)-- where they just talk about nothing important all day.
Character Tags
Lovable/Annoying/Idiot (Character Type) — has who exactly as it says as a main character.
More Interesting Supporting Cast — exactly what it says. Also means the supposed main characters are less interesting.
Specific Character — Picked out as a personal favorite.
Positive Fat Protagonist — A fat protagonist who is badass AND good looking or cute. does not actually mean they are deep or well rounded(hehe) as a character. but rather, they are not mere comic relief.
tongue Twister character name — exactly what it says. try saying "Tsutsukakushi Tsukiko" quickly a few times for practice.
Specific tags
Sword Art Online done right — flawless protagonist given believable(it makes him a reverse gary stu but it's still better than one) flaws, waifu lead with no life beyond the hero(still doesn't make much sense, but again, much better) fixed, loli given more focus(i did not need the foot focus, but she's better than her SAO counterpart) and depth, main character's best friend given more focus and depth, secondary love interest more interesting, better conflict, etc.
Strictly Formula done right — Formula type(e.g. double life: student by day, crimefighter by night kind of shows) anime you won't get tired of watching despite never breaking the formula (or doing so late in the series) due to keeping things fresh each episode and never sticking to the same solution against the "enemy of the week".
Take That! Scrappy! — an infuriating, annoying character gets what he deserves.
Shota nips as substitute for Loli's — The show really wanted to have a loli heroine tits, but that won't fly by the censors so they used a very effeminate boy instead.
OK you got your room now GTFO and lets get back to the story — The "escape the matrix" plot got sidetracked and we had to endure watching diabetes inducing honeymoon episodes. since the main character were sexing each other they should have shown Klein kicking ass with the Fuurinkazan and do "meanwhile, someplace else" gags where we see Kirasuna "grinding" for XP.
The Power of Love — love weaponized. only here will seeing your loved (petty or true love) one with someone else make you literally explode.
I saw your comparison of Gurren Lagann and Love Live! I'm surprised that you did a good job on that. Never knew someone can make a comparison of opposite genres.
wise move.and i like your tag system, tag system makes lists generally more interesting and in your condition its even better(bullet dodging tits :I)...even though our compatibility is low read all and bookmarked it,tnx...
same.i dont give my points same way while watcing ecchi like the others...but still in Maken-ki 2, removing story completely and almost changing main characters made me feel like watching a ultra censored and ultra boring,3 hours long hentai
