When I began to watch anime, I sought out to watch the best anime I possibly can story wise. Also, when I rate an anime, I rate it in terms of it's assets and how well they are used in order to make and advance the story as a whole. Thinking of a system that would express my opinion and view on a certain anime while at the same time helping others possibly find great anime to watch I have came up with this. First the criteria that I rate the anime I watch are threefold:
The story
This is possibly the most important criteria in my rating system, but a 10 story alone will not give a 10 rating. Storywise, I look to see if an anime has great pacing, coherent, and entertaining at the same time. This includes anime with action and although I lean more towards the action genre, it is harder for an action anime to get above a 7 for me because the action tends to dilute the story just a little bit along with the other criteria. I also look at how unique the story is for the anime primarily in terms of the moral of the story. The more unique the anime is, the more likely it is to score higher than an anime that is monotonous or mundane, which should be obvious in some cases. And in some cases, I appreciate an anime that has originality if the story is interesting enough.
Characters
Almost as important as the story. If the characters are not interesting and do not provide a proper engine from which the story progresses, the anime will not score very high. Poor characters also weight as much as a poor story as well. Each character that appears in an anime must have a purpose (unless that character is just an extra). But the most important thing I look at when I consider the characters of an anime is how much of an impression they left, how well they were developed, and how much intrigue, entertainment, and the power generated from the relationships of the protagonist, supporting characters, and the antagonist.
Impact
This criteria is sort of like a mix between the two aforementioned and is most likely the most opinionated. But not essential so because there are two important concepts that were added, which makes the impact of an anime important as well. The first concept is how memorable the anime was. If an anime does not stick, then its impact is weak, which means that the anime may never get above a 6 or a 5 (although these scores are not necessarily bad) if the anime is not memorable at all. In other words, the anime must make you more interested in its respective genre if not anime itself. No one wants to watch an anime that will seem like a waste of time and almost pointless (which to me is very hard to do) thus draining interest in anime. The second concept is what did you gain from the anime. Was it another viewpoint in life? or did you just simply learn something? or did it just make you appreciate something more than you did before? or did it simply boggle your mind or made you more interested in x,y,or z? these are some of the things that I ask myself once i'm done watching an anime and in order for an anime to get a score of 10, I must gain something from watching it instead of just entertainment, along with a great cast and a great story, thus leading to the scale that I use as follows:
10 - A work of art/masterpiece
9 - great story with an exceptional cast and good impact
8 - great story, good cast, good impact
7 - a good story with a good cast and variable impact
6 - a good story with an ok cast and impact
5 - a questionable story (often good) with an ok cast and a questionable impact (often weak)
4 and below are just vary degrees of any combination of the two criteria and most likely heavily opinionated because I can't fathom an anime ranking this low, yet alone an anime that will rate below a 6.
Now that you know how I will be rating my anime from now on, don't expect me to be consistent with the system because I mostly watch anime for the enjoyment anyways lol(and the system seems a bit shaky to me as is anyways). But this is the thinking that I do when I rate an anime most of the time. I tend to not be all that harsh on anime rating because I view anime as mainly a work of art anyways and like I said before I watch for enjoyment (not solely entertainment there's a big difference), but here is my rating system..................I guess.......
(Not a big fan of watching the same thing twice, but I figured i'd want to be thrilled again for once), lets just hope I get to the list eventually.............

Yes. My exams are finally done as of today. I'm so happy.
On another note, have you seen any recent anime that's worth watching? I'm thinking of picking up another series before school starts.
Yeah, I'm in my second year of college still, nothing really new besides that I have been a bit more decisive with my major. I was undeclared, doing all my general ed classes, and I took an interest in the production side of Theater Art. I was in stage tech class in high school and middle school for my final years of both, and those were probably the funnest times I had in my life, so of course I took a stage lighting class last semester, met cool people, and generally had a fun time. I'm planning to take more stage classes next semester and hopefully crew shows :)
It's going well. I have one paper left when is on the 19th of January.
Anything new with you?
Because that's how the Indian Education System is. It has lots of restrictions, age bars, etc. A year is no problem actually. If I could, I would definitely do it right now. Yeah, I don't blame you for that lol. I don't expect you to know about my country anyway.
You testing me? lol. I can name 3 from this season if you want me to. There are so many good shows that have been airing recently.
-Overlord
-Gangsta.
-Rokka no Yuusha
-Gate
-Non Non Biyori
-Hibike Euphonium!
There, I gave you 6 from the last two seasons. All 12-13 episodes long.
Beck was a decent show yeah. That's cool.
Lol. That's funny. The anime is much longer than the manga in terms of time it'll take to catch up.
I mean, I could still end up doing that but primarily; it's to support my Company Secretary course. It's fine to not remember man. I don't particularly mind. I see. That sounds like a good plan. Go for it. I CAN'T cross over. That's the primary issue here in India. You can't switch courses or streams easily whenever you want.
Well, there are loads of good 12 episode anime that you haven't watched so that shouldn't be particularly hard. I prefer the One Piece manga over the anime any day.
I get your feeling man. I do share a similar sentiment because I'm still not sure what I want to do with my life. I should have just done my engineering to be honest. Hope you manage to make up your mind sooner rather than later. That's already a start. A small idea regarding what you want to do.
I see. That's nice. Guess you had more important fish to fry. Well, you can take your time and get back into the thick of things whenever possible.
Oh! that's cool. So you were actually watching anime huh?
dude, I litterally removed you yesterday, thinking you weren't coming back to mal.
