In Florida, finally. :D And of course, right when I get here, most of the state is going through a cold snap. :/ I guess I just have to keep telling myself that it's still a lot better than highs the teens and 20s. The morning I was packing the car to leave PA, it was actually below zero.

A PS4 is a pretty great present! I guess someone in your life if a pretty generous gift-giver. I think I'll just add most of the money to my savings for now. I don't really have anything big I need to buy at the moment. The only big purchase I have planned for the near future is a kayak, but that won't be until I get back to PA in the spring.

I think Tonari-no Seki-kun is hilarious so far! Space Dandy is... I guess exactly what I expected. I'm not sure whether that's a good thing or a bad thing, but I plan to keep watching it. Otherwise, I'm liking Inari Konkon Koi Iroha and Noragami, and Wake Up Girls, which I wasn't even planning to pick up, has been a pleasant surprise. I've picked a lot of other stuff too, but those are the standouts for me right now. What about you?

I was thinking the same thing. How could it be announced as a TV series, and then air as a movie instead, only a handful of months later? It's hard to believe they could make the movie from scratch in such a short time, so it seems likely that they just sort of cobbled together whatever had been finished for the TV series, and added a bit of new material. I guess it's aired already, but I haven't checked it out. I don't think it's even been subbed yet.

I'm dying to see the look of the new Sailor Moon series, but we haven't even gotten a single piece of promotional art yet! I don't know why everything about the new series continues to be such a secret, especially since it was first announced more than a year and a half ago. I have the worst feeling that the "new Sailor Moon anime" is going to turn out to be a series of 5 minute online flash shorts or something. -_- There has to be some reason there has been virtually no info or images released yet. Sailor Moon was pretty much solely responsible for getting me into anime, and it was also the first manga I ever read, and the first series I watched subbed (since Sailor Stars was never dubbed, I was forced to try subs for the first time). Even though I haven't been an active fan of the series for a long time, it's still kind of a big deal to me, and I just hope I'm not excited for nothing. All of these delays and lack of info isn't getting my hopes up. :(

Don't get me wrong, I liked Champloo, I just didn't love it. The animation was indeed fantastic for the time though, and it did have style. I'll definitely give it that.

All I got for Christmas was a lot of money, the same thing I get every year. Not that I mind that one bit. :P Mostly from my mom, who is way too generous. What about you?

I'm leaving for Florida next week. :D There's literally a blizzard outside my window right now. I can't wait to get out of here. My dogs go out for two minutes and come in looking like Dachshund-shaped snowmen, they're so covered in snow. :P

Yeah, It would be nice if they actually made sure something was going to be made before they announce it, and especially before they actually confirm a release date. The Bushi Road anime project was first announced in like... 2005. :/ Then it was indefinitely suspended forever, then it was briefly confirmed for fall 2013 (which didn't happen), and now apparently it's confirmed as just a movie, that's actually supposed to air in a couple of days. This is exactly what I'm afraid will happen to the new Sailor Moon anime, because at this point, it looks pretty unlikely that winter 2014 is going to happen, and it's already been pushed back from the originally announced July 2013 premier. Seriously people, get it together!

Of course, like everyone else, I was immediately excited when I heard Watanabe was working on a new project, but a lot of my enthusiasm went away when I saw the trailer. I had a great feeling about Sakamichi as soon as the first bits of info and promotional images appeared, but my feelings about Space Dandy perfectly mirror my feelings about Samurai Champloo when that was first announced. Looks like fun, but otherwise nothing special (which is exactly what it was, at least for me). Not that there's anything wrong with that, not every anime needs to be a masterpiece. I guess it's just not what I was personally hoping for. Though I might be completely wrong anyway, maybe it'll totally exceed my expectations. Either way, I'll definitely be watching!

Merry Chri... er, I guess it's actually closer to "Happy New Year!" now. :P

I'd trade in a heartbeat, I can't wait to get back down there. I think Florida in December is really nice. This is right when it starts to be just "warm" on most days, rather than really "hot." Well, on most days anyway. I think I've only seen the sun twice since I got back here. It's been constantly gray and gloomy. :( And we've had deep snow all month, and now that Christmas is only a couple of days away, it's all melted. It figures, the one time of the year it's actually nice to have snow, and we just have rain and mud instead.

The new Sailor Moon was technically confirmed to air in winter back in August (after being originally announced for July), but since there's not even any promotional images out yet, let alone any kind of trailer or premier date, I'd be shocked if it actually ended up happening. Its seems like another delay is likely.

I'll definitely be watching Space Dandy, but I'd be lying if I said i was really looking forward to it. I can't put my finger on why. I don't think it'll be a bad show by any means, and it'll probably be fun at least, but nothing I've seen in the trailers gets me excited. Compared to Watanabe's other stuff, it feels like Space Dandy will be at the "pretty good" level of Samurai Champloo, rather than the "amazing" level of Kids on the Slope or Cowboy Bebop. It's really cool that it'll be airing on Toonami while it's airing in Japan though, that's a pretty big deal. The fact that it's actually premiering on Toonami the day before it airs in Japan is crazy.

I'm not very excited about Pupa anymore, since it's now been confirmed to be only 3 minutes per episode. :( I'll still be watching it (if it actually airs this time), but what a shame.

The spring season is almost always really strong. I'm not thinking about it too much yet, since it's pretty far away, but looking at the list, there's a lot I'm already really excited for.
palm-tree Dec 10, 2013 1:02 AM
I'm fine with Pennsylvania... I just really, really, really hate cold weather and snow. And unfortunately, we have a lot of that this time of year, and for the next several months. But if all goes as planned, I'll be in FL from mid January through late April or early May, so I won't have to deal with the winter weather in PA. By the time I get back here, it'll be nice again. :P

So you're skipping almost the whole season? That's too bad, but I guess if you're not in the mood to try and catch up, there's no reason to force yourself. Which four do you think you'll watch?

Have you seen the Kyousou Giga OVA? I'm wondering if the TV series is similar. If it is, then I don't think it's for me. But if the series is better than the OVA, I'd probably give it a chance.

I'm not really looking forward to much in the Winter season. Like most Winters, it looks kind of weak overall. I am really excited for the second season of Gin no Saji, and the second season of Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! will hopefully be fun. And of course the new Sailor Moon anime, if that actually ends up airing (I wouldn't be surprised if it was delayed yet again). The only totally new things I have high hopes for is Inari, Konkon, Koi Iroha, and maybe Noragami, but I do have my eye on a few others. I'll probably pick up 10-12 altogether, a little less than I usually do. There's actually a lot of fall shows that will be continuing into next season, more than usual, so I don't want to start too many new shows, or it'll be hard to keep up.

What about you? Are you excited for anything in the Winter season?
palm-tree Dec 7, 2013 5:01 PM
Well, I'm back in Pennsylvania for a month. Bleh. :(

This season has been pretty good overall. I'm definitely enjoying Nagi no Asukara the most, but there's quite a few others I'm really liking too. In particular, Yowamushi Pedal continues to be really good, and Gigitsune is a real pleasure to watch every week too. There's also been a couple of pleasant surprises for me... I wasn't expecting much from Non Non Biyori or Outbreak Company, and maybe neither one is anything too special, but both are a lot of fun. Samurai Flamenco and Galilei Donna are both pretty solid, but haven't been as good as I hoped they'd be. Maybe I just got my hopes up a little too much. Kill la Kill, while far from bad, has actually been kind of boring for me so far, but I think I'm probably in the minority with that opinion.

Have you made much progress catching up? If you have, what are you enjoying most so far? Kyousou Giga is one I didn't pick up, because i didn't really enjoy the 2011 ONA, but I've been wondering if I should give it a chance.
palm-tree Nov 21, 2013 6:04 PM
That really sucks. :( It's so hard to catch up when you get that far behind. And this season you were going to try to follow more than you ever did before too. :( At least you were able to get your laptop repaired, and didn't have to buy a new one. So what are you going to do for the rest of the season? Just pick out a few of the best anime to follow? Or will you actually try to catch up on everything?
palm-tree Oct 15, 2013 10:46 PM
Now I'm wondering if Pupa will even premier this month at all. It seems really strange that we're halfway through the month, and there's been no word on when it will start. Late October premiers are petty uncommon too. I wonder if it's been delayed?

I checked out the first episode of Ace of Diamond too, but it didn't really catch my interest for whatever reason. It wasn't exactly bad, but I don't think it's for me. I may check out the second episode, but I'm guessing I probably won't end up following it, especially if there's a strong possibility that it's going to be really long. I can watch a show I really love forever (like Uchuu Kyoudai, which I'd like to see continue for years), but a series I only "kind of" enjoy isn't going to hold my interest longer than 26 episodes. I really like what I've seen of Yowamushi Pedal though, so I'll definitely be following that. It actually looks like it'll be one of the best titles this season! I wasn't really expecting much from it, so it was a pleasant surprise for me. I hope it stays this good. Otherwise, I think my favorites so far are Nagi no Asukara and Galilei Donna. Unfortunately, Samurai Flamenco was a bit of a let down for me. It was far from bad though, and it seems like it has a lot of potential, so I'll definitely be sticking with it. Have you checked it out yet? What are you most enjoying this season so far?

WDW property is huge, 40 square miles, and it's packed with countless things to do and see, even outside of the parks themselves, which only occupy a small portion of the WDW resort as a whole. I still haven't experienced everything it has to offer, even after all these years. And everything is so intricately themed and detailed and well done. The rides, the shows, the fireworks, the... everything. Just everything. There's nothing that's NOT fun about it. :P It's just awesome, and they're always improving and adding more. I don't know what else to say. You're asking me to describe something that I don't fully understand myself. :P I just know that I love it.
palm-tree Oct 7, 2013 1:35 PM
I added Kotetsu to my favorite characters list here on MAL right after I finished the series. The whole cast of T&B was great, actually. I really can't wait for the second movie.

If that turns out to be true about Pupa, I'll be seriously disappointed. :( I was really looking forward to following a good horror anime this season. This actually happens a lot; I'll really look forward to a certain series, and then it'll turn out to be just a few minutes per episode. I really liked Another, too. Like you said, it certainly had its flaws, but its positive qualities far outweighed any negatives for me.

Cross Game is what first really made me notice sports anime too. I had seen a few before it that were alright, but really nothing special. But I enjoyed Cross Game so much that it kind of made me take another look at the genre as a whole, and since then I've watched several sports anime that I don't think I would have bothered with otherwise. None have been quite as good as Cross Game, but I've at least enjoyed a lot of them. I've heard great things about Major too, and I've almost started it several times, but every time I think about how many episodes it is, I hesitate. I'm not sure I'm ready to start something that long! I'm still debating whether to pick up Yowamushi and Ace of Diamond. I think I'll watch both of their first episodes today and decide based on that. I'd like to follow at least one of them this season.

Now that you say that, I think that was exactly the impression Coppemion's trailer left on me. Action is fine, but it doesn't do anything for me if I can't get into the characters. I still have to check out the first episode. Hopefully it'll be enough to give me a good idea about what kind of series it'll be, and whether it'll be all flash and no substance, or if there'll be something more to it.

I'm actually not surprised at all that you've never been to Disney World! In fact, I had a feeling you were going to say that. I've talked to so many Florida natives who haven't. That's so strange to me, since it's such a big part of my life, but it seems to be really common. And you wouldn't believe how many adults are as obsessed as I am! People in their 20s all the way to their 70s, both men and women. My mom is in her late 50s and loves it almost as much as I do. The attendees at the Halloween party the other night were at least 30-40% adults without without kids with them. The same goes for any average day too. There's actually a lot there for adults to enjoy. The only time it's almost 100% families with kids is when school is out, and I never go during those times, since it's insanely hot and crowded.
palm-tree Sep 28, 2013 12:07 AM
Wow, that's going to be a lot to keep up with! It's not unusual for me to get close to 20 new anime per season, but I rarely go over that. I don't really limit the number of new anime I follow intentionally, but there usually isn't more than 20 that interest me in a given season, so it just ends up that way. I think I've only followed more than 20 from a new season once or twice. It's so easy to fall behind when following that many! You have your work cut out for you. :P

I'm not sure exactly how many I'm following. It'll easily be at least 15, but there are several anime that I won't be able to make a final decision on until I see the first episode.
palm-tree Sep 27, 2013 11:43 PM
I definitely got a Tiger & Bunny feeling from Samurai Flamenco too. I loved T&B, so if Samurai Flamenco is similar at all, I'll consider that a very good thing. I hadn't even looked into the staff, but looking at the list of anime Omori has worked on makes me even more excited to see this. In addition to the four you named, all of which I enjoyed, I see he's actually worked on quite a few other anime I've loved too. I don't see how this series can be anything but great.

If Pupa's manga is as dark as you say it is, I'm worried that they'll tone it down a little for the anime. :/ Lets hope not. Like you said, true horror anime are way too rare. We usually only get one really good one every couple of years, if that.

I have my eye on Ace of Diamond and Yowamushi Pedal too, since I actually tend to really like sports anime in general. So many end up being really cheesy and poorly paced though, so whether I actually pick up either of them will probably depend on the first couple of episodes. It's usually easy to tell pretty early on if a sports anime will be worth watching or not. As for Kyoukai no Kanata, I'm eager to see Kyoto Animation's take on a series like this too. They rarely disappoint me. And I'm really excited to hear that AnoHana's writer is working on Nagi no Asukara! I'd only glanced at the staff, so I didn't even realize.

I did see the trailer of Coppelion, and something about it, I can't put my finger on what, was really off-putting for me. I'll probably still check out the first episode, but unless something about it really catches my interest, I probably won't pick this one up.

Plans while I'm in Florida...for starters, lots of Disney World. I''ll freely admit, I have an irrational obsession with the place. I'm there at least once a week while I'm here. If not at the parks themselves, then at one of the hotels or Downtown Disney, or spending time at the campground doing various things. I'm going to the Disney Halloween party next week, which is always a blast, and then I'll do the Christmas party in November too. Otherwise, I might take the dogs to the beach, since I think I finally found a nice one nearby that actually allows dogs, and I'm looking into nearby state parks to check out too. Somewhere with trails to walk on, or wildlife to see. I love outdoorsy stuff like that. :P I'll probably wait for the temperature to drop a little before I do that kind of thing, though.
palm-tree Sep 22, 2013 11:30 AM
It does look like it'll be a pretty good season. It's about what I expect, since the fall lineup is usually pretty strong. There's nothing that has me REALLY excited at this point, but there are quite a few shows that look like they'll at least be "good." Nothing is sticking out at me as something that will be "great" (that I'll end up rating a 9 or 10), but definitely a lot of stuff that'll be worth watching.

I'm most looking forward to Samurai Flamenco, since it's a noitaminA show (which are more often than not pretty solid), Galilei Donna for the same reason, and Kyoukai no Kanata, since it's from KyoAni. Otherwise, Kill la Kill, Nagi no Asukara, Pupa, and maybe Gingitsune seem like they they have the potential to be pretty good. And the first season of Magi was pretty fun (even if the last handful of episodes was weak), so I'm looking forward to the second season. I think I'll probably pick up at least 15-20 in all.

What are you most looking forward to this season?

So I'm in Florida now, and as much as I love it here, I'll admit that it's way too hot at the moment! Too hot to go anywhere or do anything outside. :( I guess you've been dealing with this heat (and worse) all summer. I can't wait until next month, when it'll start to cool off just a bit.
palm-tree Sep 11, 2013 12:17 AM
I'd actually disagree with you on every point. And I swear I'm not just being argumentative for the sake of it. XD The humor repeatedly falls flat for me, the art is ugly for the most part (it doesn't help that it's so cheaply animated, but I don't hold that against it), and I can't think of any character that I can honestly say I like. It's just not for me, I guess. Like I said, it does have a pretty good overall score, and most people seem to like it, so obviously I'm the weird one for not liking it more than I do. I'm still rating it a 6 though, and that's basically "decent." I don't consider it a bad rating, and I don't consider it a bad show. It's just not a "good" show, at least for me.

The story isn't so much confusing, as it is all over the place. It feels to me like the mangaka didn't have a clear idea of where he wanted to go with the story or the characters, so he just tossed in anything and everything that came to mind as he went. Characters, settings, and concepts are being thrown at us at 1000 miles per hour right now, and that alone is going to keep a lot of people interested (waiting to see what's going to happen or who's going to show up next), but it's just not working for me. And so many characters have been introduced one after another without fleshing them out or giving us a chance to really get to know them, and that makes it hard to even care what's happening to them. Maybe that will come later, but at least a little of that now would be nice. I feel like the series in general could really benefit from slowing down just a bit, and working with what it has, before speeding off again and introducing more characters or starting something else new with the plot.

Seeing abs of steel on animated high school guys actually doesn't do much for me, if that's what you're thinking. XD Slice of life is my favorite genre, and KyoAni's brand of slow-paced, fun, pleasant, fluffy slice of life is something I usually really enjoy, even if there's little to no substance to most of it. So I just tend to really like most of KyoAni's work, and rate it fairly high, whether it includes wet shirtless guys or not. :P
palm-tree Sep 7, 2013 6:00 PM
Well if Blood Lad had been a little better, then I wouldn't have to be mean to it. :P

No, seriously, I'm not being mean on purpose! I've stuck with it because it's so short, and I can't say it's actually a "bad" show, but for me, it's just been really boring and lackluster for the most part, with major pacing problems. And I haven't read the manga, but it really feels like they're trying to cram way too much into too few episodes, which leaves things feeling disjointed and rushed. Those are my honest feelings about it. Sorry. :( It has a 7.82 right now though, so obviously I'm in the minority. Most people seem to like it.
