I'd label myself a moderate anime fan. A little more than casual, that is. ;)
I'm an English major with a focus in writing, just about to start my last semester. I'm working on a 12-book novel series that I desperately want to get published. I also work a full-time job. As such, I have far, far less time to watch anime than I'd like. I have a large list of anime I plan to watch, and, unfortunately, I doubt I'll even crack half of them...(sigh)
I have what I'd call subversive taste in anime - especially in regards to Harem anime. I know everyone seems to think the term "Harem" is an instant smear on any anime, but I couldn't disagree more. For one thing, I've always been a romance fan; when I found out that Harem animes existed, I instantly became hooked. I mean, it's like five romance plots at once! How awesome is THAT!?! I also enjoy the moral quandry it puts its lead in concerning what to do - makes for good popcorn-munching anime, according to this fan, at least! (WOOHOO!) Besides, sometimes it's nice to watch anime that doesn't force you to think any deeper than surface-level. That's true for me, anyway.
I actually like reverse-harems even more, just for their different take on the genre. I'm always down for watching one of those (even if there's FAR, FAR less sex appeal for me involved - that's not why I watch anime though).
Slice of life can be really nice, as well. I love the realism involved, and I find they're the easiest animes with which you can relate to the characters and situations, which is always a plus.
I'm also a fan of disturbing stuff. I haven't seen anything truly sickening yet, but I'm trying to find some! ^_^ Some of my favorite series are "lite-disturbing," like Elfen Lied and Higurashi.
Comedy is probably my all-time favorite genre, if it's done well. Sometimes I don't really have a similar sense of humor as other anime fans, but other times I absolutely love the stuff. It just depends on a number of variables, I guess.
Thanks for visiting my page!!!
