So, there I was in my lonesome, being a staunch hater of anime because of the usual stigma surrounding it (despite watching Dragon Ball as a kid). Then, a friend of mine decided it would be pretty funny to try and make me watch an anime or two. After a little persuasion, I agreed.
Well, no. I didn't actually...
Basically, he forced me to watch a few episodes of Cowboy Bebop against my own will (or maybe because it was raining outside and his house was in the middle of nowhere). I thought I was going to die in a sea of ridiculousness but in the end, I didn't. I saw something beautiful while watching Bebop and the wall I built around myself crumbled. I became a convert and to my chagrin, my friend celebrated his victory (Thanks a lot, jerk).
I started small at first and now, I have expanded my viewership to other genres and I am still willing to try anything new if someone recommends something. I joined MAL in the hope to gain more insight into the anime community (part of it, at least) and to hopefully have intelligent conversations with anyone who is open to ideas.
One thing's for sure, I have only seen the tip of the iceberg and I would love to see what other stuff comes my way.
Current favorite anime now is Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere which I watched without seeing any previews or having any prior knowledge of what the show was about. Lately, been getting into Psycho-Pass and I'm blown away by how good it really is.

Ah, I never went to a national one. I was in an international one where everyone spoke mainly English. I just know bits and pieces of Malay sadly.
Ah yes the food! ♥ You can't find the same stuff anywhere else.
I've never been to Perth but I've heard it's good. Quiet AND Bogans? lucky you haha
Yeah, getting stuff in MY is pretty hard but there are quite a few anime cons that happen each year so you can get some good stuff at a high price. Still cheaper than AUS tho :(
Yeah, I'm an actual girl. I'm sure there are a few people who still think I'm lying but w/e who cares. I'm Bi as you can tell from my profile (since I've mentioned it twice) so yeah. Tits are great.
Do you speak Bahasa Melayu btw? I can't. I should've learned when I was younger but oh well
I saw in that accent thread that you're an Aussie that grew up in Malaysia? me too! i've actually never seen someone like me before haha
