How did I get hooked to anime?
At a young age, I watched Naruto, Dragonball Z, Yu-gi-Oh, Pokemon, etc... But this was back when i just thought of them as cartoons, rather than 'anime'. I continued like this probably until I hit 3rd grade. At this point, I rarely watched any cartoons/anime, with an exception of Avatar The Last Air Bender (is that even an anime??) But as I approached 7th grade, I was enlightened and found out Naruto had a sequel. It was then that i began to watch anime again, this time, recognizing the fact that it was indeed anime. So I started to watch Naruto Shippuden, I rewatched Dragon Ball Z, and watched Dragon Ball, and Dragon Ball GT as well. Once I caught up to the latest aired episode, of course at this time I was still only watching Dubs of anime, but then I wanted something more, I began to taste the thrill and greatness anime had to offer, and I slowly became hooked. So next, I would watch Bleach- Oh wow! Another long running shounen! No suprise there!- But I would only get to around episode 100 before I stopped watching anime all together. I guess I just got bored of it, and for a year and a half, i didn't see a single episode.
Then sometime, during my 9th grade year, for some unknown reason I decided to pick it back up again, and I caught up to Bleach and Naurto Shippuden once again. It was now the summer approaching my Sophmore year in High School. I tried a few anime out like Fairy Tale, Gintama, but neither caught my attention like HunterxHunter did. I had regularly watched a couple Twitch Streamers for a couple weeks, and commonly heard HxH mentioned, so I decided to test the waters. This anime is what would be classified as my 'gateway drug'. Unfortunately I didn't research quite enough, and watched the 1999 version which ended with no resolution, much to my disappointment. I almost stopped here, when i found that there was a 2011 version! Boy was I happy, and so I watched the whole 2011 version as well. I watched both versions in a little less than the span of a month, and so as you can probably tell, I was addicted now.
And so after I had finished HunterxHunter, still a little bit heart broke at the ending(?), I just hoped it would resume again some day in the future, and I moved on. I went on to do a pretty lazy thing, and just googled up, "Best anime," or something along those lines. I scrolled through plenty of anime, and the one that caught my attention, was Deadman Wonderland. And sir, let me tell you, I completely destroyed that anime in one sitting. But in the end, I was shocked! I was completely distraught! How could there be no more episodes?? It was only 13 episodes!!!(???) Well maybe this site just didn't have all the episodes!! And so I frantically searched, and to my dismay, I found out the truth. The terrible news that it had never gotten a second season! And well, I had no idea at the time, that anime could be so short, I was just previously caught up in the world of 100+ episode shounens! But now I began to have trust issues, 2 anime in a row have caught me completely off guard. The first having two versions, and the second ending on a cliffhanger! I know thought to myself that I should research my anime before just wasting my time watching something needless. (But neither the old version of HxH and DW were needless, I loved them both!!) Next, I went on to do a little more research for the next anime, and I came across a pretty popular, though not excellently rated anime by the name of Guilty Crown. Within a week I had finished this bad boy, I must say, it was my first time feeling sad at then end, feeling like I was gonna miss the characters. And feeling drove me forward to watch another anime. In the next few anime, I watched (in sequential order): Tokyo Ghoul, Durarara, K, Mirai Nikki, Elfen Lied, Angel Beats, and what came as a shocker to me, Highschool DxD. (Yes, the summary of the plot attracted me, I had no idea it was this ecchi oppai heaven stuff xD) But it was these anime that put me in this state of Otakuness, and after each one, I just got more and more hooked to anime.
Well, that about sums up my story. I must say, if you read all this, I can come to a few different conclusions.
1) You are a super creep
2) You got a lot of time on your hands
3) You must really care about me.
4) All of the above.
