Haha, I'm not sure what makes me your senpai, but if you feel that way, then so be it :P
Anyway, to answer your question: In general, no. I don't really pay attention to this. But tbh, I think it depends on the anime. For example, a more mature and serious high-stakes plot full of symbolism and philosophical themes might resonate more if the characters are older and have more life experience. On the other hand, coming-of-age stories or light-hearted slice-of-life comedies wouldn't feel the same if they were full of adult characters (at least for many of them).
The age of the characters can enhance the story and make it more relatable, but it’s not a dealbreaker for me as long as the story is engaging and the characters are well-developed.
