Spittin bro! I usually cheer for the protags but Ryo, Griffith, Light, Johan, and gilgamesh were just sooooo good (both writing and character design). They have really badass lines too.
Aye yes. Honestly all of Griffith's dialogue is very engaging and brilliant, and on top of that the way him and Guts contrast each other with their personalities, ideals, inner conflicts and at last their opinions on each other is just fantastically executed.
Falconia arc was sorta weak, but Golden Age to Conviction to Falcon of Millennium empire is one of the greatest stretches in manga.
The way the themes, lore, characters and plot comes together is incredibly executed and the art is like...godlike.
On side note, I just recently finished Punpun and boy was it a heavy read. It was so overwhelmingly bleak that I got pretty much desensitized towards the end.
I really recommend the manga too if you haven't read it. And yes, Griffith's speech with Charlotte is top-tier. Also that dialogue with Casca after sleeping with King Gennon, "the only thing I can do for my fallen comrades, is to win", and off course the "There is no royalty or nobility in battle, they are the defeated who die in war".
Lol yeah he's just absolutely untouched as a villain. Understandable, tragic and human in all ways necessary, incredibly charismatic, nuanced, dynamic and cynical/idealistic, hawk of light/darkness, chidlike/sophisticated, filled with all these unsettling dualities and there's this mesmerizing charm to him, he hits me like no other character. Though I care more about Guts and Casca on a personal level due to obvious reasons lmao
