First of all, just to correct you since you seem to have misunderstood, regarding "GTO" I wrote that it was a sequel to a live action drama, but not about a live action remake. I guess I didn't word it correctly, sorry. The live-action drama remake of "GTO" has already failed.
I also don't rate a live-action remake or a live-action drama as something that needs to be seen. I'm not even interested in One Piece's live action, so I haven't watched it.
As for "GTO," the live-action drama was made and aired before the anime. The live-action drama had an average rating of 28.5% for all episodes and an astounding 35.7% for the final episode, while the anime had a rating of about 16.9%. The first live-action TV drama had a certain degree of viewership and popularity, and the anime adaptation was easily decided upon.
There is a pattern that people who like anime don't watch live-action dramas, but people who are not interested in anime or manga, people who like serial dramas, and people who like actors can have a good chance to be interested in the original work that was made into a live-action drama. I think they make live-action dramas in the hopes of that sort of thing.
I usually watched Shaman King and FMA in real time before the remake. As for Shaman King, the condition for the remake was to not change the voice actors from the old anime, so the remake has been able to keep that. The remake turned out to be a pattern that didn't succeed, though. I like this work even though there are many things about it, so if you don't know about it, please don't say easily that a remake is unnecessary.
As for FMA, the old anime almost caught up with the original, so the anime went in a different vein, but it ended up looking like a seinen manga instead of a shounen manga. It gets mixed reviews, but since a movie version was made, it wasn't as bad as it could have been, and I didn't think it sucked. Well, I guess it's a matter of taste.
Well, there are people who want to see the anime as the original manga was but were disappointed that they couldn't see it in the old anime, so now there are more and more remakes being made. But I think it's about time more people understood that even if they are made according to the original, it doesn't necessarily mean that they are better than the old anime.
I'm going to reply in the forum, because I'm afraid that if I reply, I'll get tangled up with some troublesome people, so I'll reply in the comments.
Ahhhh, I don't like remakes of old movies either. Sailor Moon was no more of a hit than the old one. The box office for the previous theatrical movie was not what one would call a success for a recent anime movie, and many people dropped out after the first "Crystal". Even "Urusei Yatsura" does not seem to have been a success at all, judging from the sales of merchandise, and although the news of the announced remake was a hot topic, I did not see anyone actually watching or talking about this work.
I consider "Sailor Moon" and "Urusei Yatsura" to be remakes that have neither succeeded nor failed. The only one that succeeded was... Jojo series, I guess.
GTO would be difficult to remake for compliance reasons, but the live-action drama sequel that aired this year was well received, so there may be anime production companies that would like to make it in the future. However, I don't think they will make a stylish OP like the old anime.
