I lean towards ecchi anime.
I watched Pokémon, DBZ, and Yu-Gi-Oh dubs when I was young, just like a lot of people around my age have. I also watched Rockman.EXE, which was the first show I watched subbed, when I was in middle school because I really liked the Battle Network games. I enjoyed these shows, but they didn't cause me to have any motivation to watch other anime. This changed, though, when I watched the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya on the suggestion of one of my brother's friends in 2007. This sparked my initial interest in exploring more types of anime. After finishing that, I did start to watch a couple of other shows such as Lucky Star and Rozen Maiden, but they didn't manage to hold my attention for very long, and consequently I didn't bother to finish them. I figured that maybe Haruhi had been a strange outlier, and I didn't actually care for anime as a whole.
I didn't have anything else to do with anime until one of my friends (BEz827) got me into watching Naruto in the fall of 2010. When I started to enjoy the show, it made me remember how amazing Haruhi had been, and I started to try out more shows to see if I could find more things that I would like. It snowballed from there, as I eventually worked my way up to watching airing anime. I've been watching anime regularly ever since.

Side note: I don't take scores very seriously. It's not like anyone else cares what arbitrary number I assign to a show. When I'm done with a show or a manga, I pick whatever number I feel is best, and never rethink it too hard. I don't get why some people put so much stock in MAL scores; they're not important at all.
