Sooo.... I've been a member for over two years now, at the time of this writing, so I figure it's about time I put something here. And since it's About Me, if you think it's too long, get bent. k thx
I apologize ahead of time for my liberal use of ellipses and commas.
A brief history:
Age ~10: Ronin Warriors. Playing "war" with friends, shouting "WILDFIRE!"... good times.
Age ~14: Toonami... DBZ, Gundam Wing, etc. After-school viewing with friends and DBZ music videos. Also, Gundam Wing models.
Age ~18: Adult Swim... Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, GITS: SAC, etc. No longer care for DBZ.
Age ~23: Started avidly watching Bleach online... a couple months later, started branching out and researching other shows on the internet for the first time ever. Found Gundam 00, then looked for more mecha... which led me to....!
Code Geass.
(Even though it was showing on Adult Swim at roughly the same time, I, for some reason, paid no attention to it.)
For the first time, I discovered anime could have depth, decent writing, suspense, mystery, and emotion, and didn't involve mindless shouting of attacks and charging a spirit bomb for 11 straight episodes. It also became the first series I had ever marathoned and watched all the episodes in order. (In hindsight, if I had actually completed Bebop, GITS: SAC or Trigun, I would have discovered this much earlier).
And despite it's flaws, it's a show I will always love unconditionally, if perhaps irrationally, and that's partly because everything since then has been (mostly) a whirlwind of amazing, quality anime. Boom. Explosion.
Which, I might add, is also thanks to MAL, even though I've never actually conversed with anyone on here =P. It's amazing what you can find just by stumbling around through users, reviews, recommendations, and forum posts. Also, there's a few prominent and notable reviewers that have helped shaped my journey thus far... will name and link later, though it should come as no surprise. And it doesn't hurt that I LOVE making comprehensive, updated lists of just about anything.
Anyway, I'm pretty damn introverted and shy, even on the internet... and none of my friends have moved past DBZ or Bleach, and mostly express no desire to, so I've found myself discussing my anime of the moment with people that don't really care... which generally sucks for all parties involved.
If anybody wants to give me a rec, feel free! Favorite genre is probably supernatural/mystery, for reasons I don't fully understand... otherwise, I pretty much enjoy anything.
Everything I rate at 10 should be considered a favorite, regardless of it's presence on the left side of this page, so I figured I'd show some love to a few 9's that should be 10's... but sadly, are not.
Ratings:
10 - Perfect, or so damn close to it, that any complaint I'd ever have about it carries no weight.
9 - Enjoyed the hell out of it, but I'm hung up on something about it somewhere. Usually, my heart wants to give it a 10... my head says no. Watch it.
8 - Truly enjoyed, to varying degrees. Would recommend.
7 - Had some misgivings, or felt they missed the mark. Worth a watch though.
6 - and below - Boring, or disappointing, or meh, or whatever. No.
Disclaimer: OP/EDs have been known to sway my score a teeny-tiny bit at times (up or down). I am weak.
100th Anime Completed: Spice and Wolf II (10/19/11)
I'll jazz this up later, which could also mean never.
And though I don't agree with him on almost everything...
