My Favorite Anime

Huh? You want to know about me? It's nothing special but if you insist...
Generally, I am an indoor type person. Just the thought of going outside drains my energy, I am kind of surprised I finished school in this state. I am the kind of person who likes to spend my time alone and when I do so, I spend my time watching anime or playing games with my phone depending on where I am. I can't classify myself as an ordinary person well since I don't engage in social interactions like normal people do unless it is of utmost importance since I am not good with words. But I think if there is a topic that we can talk about, I think I'll be able to do fine.
P.S: I don't use emoticons in all situations. But that doesn't mean I am angry. Why do people think that a person is angry if they are not using emoticons? Did the birth of the Hieroglyphics give way to the use of emoticons in the present time? If so those people who uses those Hieroglyphs should thank those ancient Egyptians. As for me, well those were out of fashion a long time ago.
Hobbies: I like to spend my time indoors so most of my hobbies are indoor activities. I play games from my PC and my phone, watch anime, play the piano, and read some light novel or manga. If I don't have anything else to do, I just zone out and think something random. I spend most of my time thinking something random like its part of my system which really makes me comfortable. And I really don't have problems when it comes to dead time since I can come up with something to do, although I ended up wasting a lot of time.
Likes: Watching anime, playing games, observing people, spending my time alone,thinking random things, learning how to cook, listening to anime and classical music, playing piano, planning to go to Japan. It has been a while since I last edited this part. I was busy at school but now I have to spend the rest of my vacation in preparing for the national exams and I plan in becoming the topnotcher so I guess I'll have to edit this again after the exams. I joined MaL last December 2013 and I have yet to write a forum Iam not really good at these things even for an indoor type person like me, I find it hard to talk to forums or other SNS sites. But feel free to message me or make a comment about maybe some anime or game preferences and I'll reply as soon as I can. It feels better to talk about your interests once in a while with others.
My Criteria for Watching Anime:
How do I determine if an anime series is worth watching? Well I have some criteria to determine whether an anime is worth watching.
First , I look at its score or its ranking. Yes many of you may judge me already for looking at the series objectively but please continue reading. It is true that the first thing you will notice when inputting the anime name in search bar is its score and its ranking but that does not mean if an anime has a low ranking, it is not worth the time, also if an anime has a high ranking, that would also not mean that the anime deserves that spot since in the end, it is you who will determine whether that anime suits your taste or not and no one else has the right to judge you based on your preferences. That applies for me too, however upon looking at the anime's ranking, it will leave a first impression which will become the basis whether if that anime is worth investing the time. And also for me, I don't follow the principle that "First impressions last" since a bad impression can turn into a good one along the way so I consider even low ranking anime in my watch list.
Second , following my first criteria, I now look at its genre. Generally, I can watch an anime series regardless of its genre as long as it has a good story and it is enjoyable, but if someone were to ask me what genre I prefer, I will choose slice of life as my top choice. Next would be shounen, drama, school, and RomCom(for an in-depth explanation of my genre preference, it is found in the next button thank you). When I see any of these genres, there will be an 80% chance that I will add it to my Plan to Watch list.
Third , next is the number of episodes or if the anime is currently airing, I will just refer to that if the number of episodes has not yet been announced. I like it if an anime would run up to 12-26 episodes, better if that anime already has sequels which I can look forward to. During this time, anime episodes mostly run up to 12-13 episodes and only a few go above the 26th mark (I am talking about the new series eh) maybe because of the budget or other things. So I had no choice but to adapt to watching 12-13 episodes at most and I liked it along the way as it is time convenient. In short, I prefer to prioritize anime that has only 12-26 episodes rather than long ones. Although when I reach the last episode of an anime that I enjoy is really heartbreaking especially if there is no announcement for a second season. And I am sure most of you who are reading this experienced this pain or is experiencing now but this just means that there are other great anime series out there lying in wait for me to watch them and thus repeating the endless cycle.
Fourth, next is I now look at its preview (not the trailer). I determine that when I am looking at the short clips that some anime pages post in SNS (Social Networking Sites). Although some of them can be a spoiler (even maybe a major one) but at least I can get a small glimpse of that anime. The hard part is that some anime pages does not give the source which is understandable which can be really difficult to find especially if that clip piqued my interest.
Lastly , although I don't really rely on this criteria too much but I will write it anyway, is the anime's reviews and popularity. Mostly depending on the season, featured anime will frequently pop up in SNS and will post some short previews about it. Although some of its contents may reveal a spoiler, but it is nonetheless showing that this series is popular so it might pique my interest a little. I only view the reviews rarely not because I am afraid of spoilers rather it is just I want to judge an anime by my standards and my overall view to them

My Favorite Genre Explained
If you read the part 1 of My Anime Preferences, then you should know my favorite genres but if not, don't worry I will put them here and give you link redirecting to anime series with the corresponding tags if you want recommendations (just click on the corresponding colored genres and it will link you directly to them).
Like what I said in the previous part, I can watch any anime series as long it has a good story and will give me the enjoyment that I deserve. But if someone asked me specifically what genre I like, my first choice will be Slice of Life. Because for me watching these anime series makes you forget about the real world for a while and jump into their world. I like to see the characters run their daily lives and generally, these anime series gives you a feeling of warmth. I can't really explain the feeling but somehow I know some of you can relate to this. Accompanying this feeling of warmth is the beautiful artwork and BGM of some anime series which makes it more beautiful and a feeling of lightheartedness takes over. As the story goes on, I feel emphatic to the characters which makes me root for them. And when these series comes to an end, I can only feel pain at first for ending such a lighthearted series. Sometimes I control myself from finishing it in one go. It also helps me ease my problems in real life and helps me calm down so I can find a better solution. There are a lot of feeling when it comes to these genre but I can't find the right words for it, so I will just leave it up to you to get this unique feeling compared to other genre. And I'll admit that I wrote some embarrassing things here which also makes me want to stop the explaining lol.
Next is Shounen. I tend to watch many episodes when it comes to anime with this genre. The reason why I watch many episodes in this tag is that compared to the lighthearted nature of the Slice of Life genre, this lits a fire in our hearts as the characters show their competitive spirit. Never wanting to experience the bitter taste of defeat and always moving forward is the common theme of this genre. Next is Drama. Drama in real life and some in televisions can be irritating especially if you already knew what was going to happen next but not for anime. This genre gives spice to the series in which the characters face at some point in time. adding it to the slice of life and/or shounen categories makes me enjoy the show better. I also like the feeling of mellowness and sadness of this genre which makes you emphatic to the characters. There are heartbreaking moments but that is what it makes the show worthwhile. Next is the School category. I like these when paired with Slice of life, Shounen and RomCom genre. It makes me feel of what an ideal school setting feels like. This confines the setting of the series mainly on their second home. And this is the stage where students in anime showcase their youthful days which makes it relaxing to watch. It will only be a matter of time until my youthful days end and I did not get to spend them unlike ordinary people so watching these series makes me feel at ease and makes me think of my past and how it would have been nice if I spent these days like the characters in the series. Although that would be impossible, but its not bad to dream eh? And lastly the Romance and Comedy genre more commonly said in combination called RomCom. This makes the series sweet, bittersweet and can sometimes end in heartbreaks. This is also where most fans ships their couples and can result in war among them. But I am not the type to engage in those discussions since I just watch only for enjoyment. And this also makes the series interesting.
Why I don't Consider Watching an Anime?
Mostly these are the reason why I don't consider watching the anime in the first place. The genre that I dislike the most is harem and especially if combined with ecchi because most of the time, the story will be neglected and will instead give a lot of fanservice. I only intend to watch those series if I have a lot of time or if I got nothing else to watch. Also I don't like ecchi that much however there are exceptions to that criteria. I have watched many anime with an ecchi genre but there is one that stands out the most and surprisingly, it is in the top of my list. Its Shokugeki no Souma. Even if there are a lot of fan service, it doesn't neglect the story line. I highly recommend the anime. Well other reasons that I don't consider watching an anime in the first place if a friend told me that it is not worth the watch or it gave them a traumatic experience (exaggerating) and if an anime has a high number of episodes. Well I could watch those but some other time.
How I rate
When I rate an anime or manga, I only rate it when it's status reaches in completion, since anything can happen as long the story progresses. You may give a 10 at first but maybe upon reaching the climax, the story and its elements may screw up, at worse, it may keep going at that rate until it reach the end so it is best to give a rating once you finished the entire thing so as to prevent the feeling of ruining one's expectations of the series. But when it comes to the manga, you can see in my list that I already gave a score in the ones that are still ongoing especially Shokugeki no souma and Yahari ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru
which I scored 10 because these series' filled my emptiness when the anime adaptation was finished. I know this happens to other people upon finishing a good series, they feel empty and just can't stop their desire of wanting more. And if there is something that can at least fill that emptiness, they will desire it, to the point of being excessively greedy. You could say that I am betting whether these series can fulfill my expectations or will it fail to meet it. And if the latter happened, I don't know, maybe the feeling of emptiness, and despair may rise or it may become traumatic.
And lastly I don't rate based on other people's opinions, I only rate based on what I view and honestly felt in a series. 10 - Truly a masterpiece. Excellent story line, maximum enjoyment, great anticipation for a next season (if it has and if it does not have one in the animation but there are a lot of things in the original adaptation, then it is worth considering to try the original), excellent artwork and animation, and etc. A sure placer in my top 10 list and even if I re-watched/reread it, I wont get tired of it. 9 - Great but the feeling of something missing lingers within you. But it makes you motivated to live in these world while waiting for a next season. Worth the time for a rewatch 8 - Can fall into 2 categories: The first one is that there are certain elements lacking, but the series is worth watching. The second one is that I have a good impression of it at first but it messed up when it reached the climax up until the ending. May or may not be worth the rewatch. 7 - The series is worth watching as a past time. Like when you have nothing else to do, you can watch/read this series without any particular feeling of enjoyment or it can have the same conditions like in '8". Definitely not getting a rewatch unless I have a lot of free time 6 - Why did I even waste my time? 5 - If there's one anime that I would like to watch before the world ends, this won't definitely be my choice 4 - I will be recommending this to someone and tell that this series is good so I won't be the only one to suffer 3 - Enough to cause nightmares 2 - How could this happen to me? I made my mistake... I'm nowhere to run... The night goes on and starts fading away... 1 - ...
If I were to divide it into 3 categories, the first one ranges from 10-8 which is recommended, the second one ranges from 7-6 which is good to pass time, and the third one ranges from 5 to below... well I wouldn't recommend it.
