Tastes in animation have somewhat changed, now its audience is wide and naive. Most of the animation, these days, focuses on bringing instant pleasure (kitsch).

Ergo Proxy was an amazing project in its time, it brought alienation and frustration at different levels. Not having your usual heroic figure, nor your usual enemies, once you finish it its clear it was a story about the crudeness of human-like nature and time.

Philosophy as subtext made it really enjoyable because the analytical nature of man makes the process of `trying to understand' pleasurable on itself. This type of pleasure is different from kitsch since rather than being `immediate' it's of persistent nature. Hence fans of series like Ergo Proxy, GITS, and Kara no Kyoukai (among others) tend to remember more details about these than fans of HOTD or HS DxD (other than shock scenes).

hmm, dunno if you can say that. imo the first season is awesome, after that it gets pretty meh. i'd say it's worth checking out, each season has only 10 episodes anyway.

not much, i'm currently just listening to music and browsing MAL, the usual stuff haha.
