I'm mainly interested in mecha and space opera genres. When it comes to anime, I'm more interested in anything that was made in the 70s, 80s or 90s, but I may watch anything newer than that if I'll find it intriguing enough, especially if it's dark or edgy.
I don't care about seasonal content nowadays and I especially loathe anything that tends to be cuteness overload, but has absolutely no substance to it. While I did use to watch that kind of stuff in the past as a teenager and a bit after, my taste changed completely over the years and I no longer enjoy all of that. Even when I attempted to study Japanese multiple times since my teenage years up until now, I always found that side of Japanese entertainment annoying.
As for manga, I'm more inclined to read newer stuff and I can tolerate the more cutesy artstyle as long as I don't find it vapid and mindnumbing. Also, having no voice acting means that I can imagine a much more tolerable voice for any character that tends to act overly cutesy or obnoxious even for Japanese standards.
