Kokou no Hito starts out as a pretty normal sports manga for the first 2 volumes (if I recall correctly) as the MC is still on high-school and tries to integrate himself with the members of the club/class, but after that, there's a time-skip and that's when it really gets interesting and I couldn't drop it for a day. The mountain climbing gets really intense and the interaction between the MC and the rest of the cast is dramatic and treacherous. It's like Innocent in the way you can't really trust no one and everyone stabs the other characters in the back.
The artwork is inferior due to the release date, but the facial expressions are extremely similar in the 2 manga. It also doesn't fall short on the visual symbolism. It's worth reading if you ever feel like reading a serious and dramatic sports story with no "power of friendship".
Hey there
Kind of short review on Innocent Rouge, but gotta agree with you. The art is outstanding and you can rarely find something like that in other manga. It truly is an underappreciated work here.
Have you read Kokou no Hito by the same author? It also has a lot of visual symbolism and heavy character development.
