I sometimes watch Anime. Need I say more?
Casual pleb since late 2013.
My favourite quotes on film criticism
- "Movies made for "everybody" are actually made for nobody in particular. Movies about specific characters in a detailed world are spellbinding because they make no attempt to cater to us; they are defiantly, triumphantly, themselves."
- "A critic should not be a ventriloquist's dummy, sitting on the knee of the public and letting it put words into his mouth. The only critics of any use or worth are those who express their OWN opinions, which the readers are then free to use or ignore. Anyone who believes a critic must reflect the views of the public has not thought much about the purpose of criticism."
- "A movie is not about what it's about; it's about how it's about it."
- "Realistic films show the physical world; animation shows its essence. Animated films are not copies of "real movies," are not shadows of reality, but create a new existence in their own right. True, a lot of animation is insipid, and insulting even to the children it is made for. But great animation can make the mind sing."
- "No good movie is too long. No bad movie is short enough."
- "Movies do not change, but their viewers do."
- "Every great film should seem new every time you see it."
- “Your intellect may be confused, but your emotions will never lie to you.”

There's some moments of dodgy CGI here or there, but otherwise I really like the sleek neonoir look and exciting choreography. Given the studio's reputation for shitting the bed on other projects I really hope the consistency remains high.

Why don't you try your hand at writing reviews again and join us? It's been 2 years since your last one. If you don't want to join, I could always ask the creator of it for permission to give you an invite. He is pretty relaxed about that kind of thing, so it shouldn't be a bother.
Only Yesterday and Princess Mononoke top 2, as for the rest, I'd say I like most of them. As a studio, it has the highest batting average of good projects when compared to any other studio. I think there are only 5 or so titles that I didn't enjoy or at least thought wasn't good.
