*Any shorts are automatically rated on a 1-7 scale. I am fairly fickle as a 7/10 would represent what I think deserve accolades - and at the moment, there are only 2 titles in my list that carry such a rating.
*Shorts are generally defined as being within 10 seconds to 24 minutes long and being 1 episode or having multiple episodes and a total run time of less than 24 minutes. These can include commercials, music videos, etc as long as they are animated and under 24 minutes long. This also applies to anime series with less than 12 minutes per episode on average.
10 - Lain
There is nothing else out that surpasses this.
I currently only have Serial Experiments Lain as the only anime that I feel deserves an absolute rating of 10/10. I won't say that I'll never have another masterpiece under my list; however, I certainly believe that this will probably not happen for a considerably long period of time until I come across an anime that I feel deserves accolades. The psychological genre is my favorite. This being said, it is very likely that an anime with this tag would land a highly ranked position on my list. I am also a sucker for slice-of-life, CGDCT, and moeblobs. If I had to choose which genre I'd prefer it would be psychological. An instant seller or eye opener for me in any anime is if it has symbolism or references to certain events. (i.e Tokyo Sarin references in Mawaru Penguindrum)
9 - Unparalleled
For various reasons, the titles are as close to perfection but were not given the highest attainable score due to several kinks or discrepancies that could have been objectively overlooked.
8 - Great
An area seemed lackluster and/or there were various several overlooked mistakes. Anime at this rating or higher are of superb quality and I certainly recommend each and every single one - though this may vary depending on who you are and what I recommend. ^^
7 - Acceptable
The anime given this rating are very relatable, diverse, and enjoyable. Anything at, and above, this rating is also recommendable. It may have its wrinkles here and there but are still enjoyable for the most part. These works have some problems that bring them down, but are still good overall and still worth watching.
This is probably the rating I think about most often after completing an anime. The question that always pops into my head upon completing said anime is:
"Would I consider re-watching this anime some time in the future?"
If the answer here is yes, I will almost certainly automatically give it this rating (though this really depends on quite a number of factors) - if the answer is no, I drop it down to a rating of 6 or lower - still completely dependent on certain variables.
This is also the highest rating I'd be willing to rate any given shorts. Which, at the moment, only include Furiko and La Maison en Petits Cubes (Tsumiki no Ie). The reason being for this is that, while there are a lot of good shorts, I can't give them an 8 or higher because them beings shorts do not compare to other shows with a rating of 8 or higher.
6 - Decent
This is the rating I'm most fickle with as I don't necessarily give anime a rating of 7 or higher in general. From here and below, this rating is where most of my anime is rated down as. It's decent, but no significance at all other than the fact that it is a, for the most part, a footnote in my list. With a few exceptions, I wouldn't necessarily recommend something in this tier. Perhaps a title to quickly pass time with or mindless fun. The anime will have its moments here and there and it is more than likely enjoyable. These works are better than average and is for the most part dependent on my enjoyment of said anime.
Any shorts with this rating is recommendable.
5 - Mediocre
Depending on who I'm talking to, this is the rating where recommendations can go either way. I have a tendency to almost always rate specials, OVA's, and ONA's a bit lower than their respective parent title as I rate them as a separate entry rather than grouping them with said original parent title. It used to be that I wouldn't rate the specials/OVA's/ONA's because the rating of these are more heavily biased due to the fanbase. It makes sense, no? A really popular anime, regardless of whether or not it's actually worth watching, that releases specials will have a linear effect since it is now only (well in most cases) in the interest of those who originally watched said popular anime while excluding those who have not already seen it. Anime at this rating are mediocre at best, but not necessarily a complete waste of time. These works are simply average. Nothing really stands out, good or bad but it is enjoyable to some extent.
Any shorts with this rating are decent and still recommendable.
4 - Subpar
They're decent, but are tremendously flawed. These works have a lot of potential or good qualities, but just have way too many problems to the point where I can not reconcile with. They may or may not be enjoyable for half the time.
Any shorts with this rating is mediocre.
3 - Awful
These are regrettable. Stay clear from these. Plot/setting, animation, pace, plot devices, story, sound/music, and character development were completely detestable. More than likely riddled with cliches and shallow deplorable characters. Nonsensical, boring, engulfed in heaps of negative qualities. Most ecchi/harems that I've watched have received this rating (or below it). This doesn't necessarily imply that the anime is completely devoid of any merit, but it simply isn't worth the watch unless it is a title or a specific genre that I haven't experienced yet.
Any shorts with this rating is subpar and I'm more inclined to not recommend it.
2 - Atrocious
Good riddance, this is just the stage where everything is absolutely painful to watch. The story is just overall lackluster. This becomes the point in which you want to absolutely rid yourself of the pain and to simply drop it.
Any shorts with this rating is not recommendable.
1 - Abysmal
These are putrid filth - completely boring and devoid of any merit and I would not recommend these unless one is curious enough to take a gander. These works just flat out fail on every level, aspect, and such. TV shows that I have seen must be really deplorable to have received this score. Ecchi, hentai, and harems have the highest probability of receiving this rating as they are my least favorite genres. I would not recommend anything with this rating.
Any shorts that receive this rating are most likely ancient and devoid of any merit.

Yoooo okay I actually started being less active right before I went to Panama, not sure if I sent you a message about that on HB :S
But yeah it's cuz of school, including my labs I technically have 8 courses, plus I have to look for a job next term for co-op, rip
Anyway thanksss man hopefully we can catch up soon!
What I love about ABe are the details and the colors. The amount of details he applies on his works is just amazing! You can notice that on Lain artworks, it's just beautiful! The colors is the most outstanding thing on his works! He's not limited to one kind of ambience, it can be cold and unhealthy or warm and appealing with the same art style, I love this!
I regret the fact that he doesn't work his draws that much on Lucika Lucika, it's drawn very roughly (it's part of my disappointment about this manga).
I expect nothing from Despera, it isn't a project I follow closely, but when it'll be released, I'll watch it for sure!
I haven't watched or read Ippo yet. It's always compared with Joe (Morikawa is an Ashita No Joe fan), but the returns I got from friends who have read both is that Joe isn't as much sport oriented and nekketsu as Ippo. It really interests me, been a long time since I wanted to read Ippo, but I'll have to catch up over a hundred of volumes to read and it increases weeks after weeks XD (plus, I don't really like scans reading, I prefer very much to read on paper)!
