Every few months I check here and anidb to see what aired in the latest season, and anime is basically on its deathbed right now. It's only been getting worse since around 2011. Looking at how nearly all of the shows recently have failed to impress the unwashed masses, there's no way my scores are going to be any higher...
That list is sorted by most recent starting date for shows that are finished. Just keep clicking on the next page to see how the numbers improve, but not by much. I mean, the first page alone, 3 months worth of anime and two things got above a 7. Only one on the second page, and none of those look tempting at all... I don't actually base what I'll watch on the scores of random people, but it's really scary when the very people that these craptastic shows were made for turn around and say "no more." >_>
I suppose I played quite a few of those games in arcades, so that sounds about right. Although, it's not that I prefer them over more in-depth simulations, it's just that as a casual player of the genre those are the only ones I've ever played. I've heard of wipeout before and it sounds like something I'd be interested in.
I've also heard of those other ones you mentioned but as far as I know they're only on consoles, which is as good as them not existing. I practically never joined the last generation and I have no intention of getting an xbone after the crap microsoft tried to pull. The PS4 doesn't look much better, but really I just don't want to deal with these crappy pseudo-computers. Tons of retarded restrictions with none of the benefits of basically being a normal computer in a tiny box.
I do have a question about Gran Turismo though. I'm pretty sure they work on some emulators I'm familiar with, so there's a chance of me being able to play them. Basically, what makes them a "simulation?" Do you just buy new cars, or do you get to customize the actual parts that make up a car?
That game that I recommended, Rock 'n Roll Racing, lets you pick up money powerups during a race, plus you can get money for killing other players and of course winning races. After races you get to upgrade specific parts like the number of shots you get from your lasers/missiles, or the suspension(landing from jumps), tires(handling), armor(number of hits you can take), and so on. You can also buy a new car every planet.
Is that what GT is like? Well, I never heard about any lasers or anything. You know what I mean. :P
You came back at a good time. Or I came back at a good time. I guess we both came back at a good time. lol
I haven't been here in like 3-4 months since I finally found a 5.5(Log Horizon) and decided to cut my losses last year. I watched more anime last year than the previous 3 years combined, something like 60 series(with drops), but only one was (close to) decent and I don't think I'll ever rewatch it... My latest haul was no better so I was about to disappear again, so it's a good thing I checked my profile. lol
racing stuff
Driving games are one of those genres where I have next to no experience in. I mean, I played all those Cruisin' Whatever games in arcades/at stores when I was a kid, I always like to try the latest Mario Kart even if I always quit after a few races of getting punished for playing well, and I've played the odd game like Rock 'n Roll Racing. I've just never had the time or desire to branch out into things like Gran Turismo or the other realistic(from what I've heard) franchises.
Last year I played two racing games on the PC. They both have very similar names and I don't give games scores so I can't quite remember which one was which, but if you want a decent Mario Kart clone on the PC, check out Sonic...Allstars...Racing? Whatever it was called, you want the SECOND one they made, because the first one was...really basic. The levels were all kinds of awesome but it's full of...Sega nobodies, and the cars actually handle like crap, but it was still fun with the three different kinds of vehicles. It reminded me of a "close, but not quite" Diddy Kong Racing on the 64, which was like the best racing game ever. lol It doesn't take much to entertain me since I never play them, but there aren't many racing games on the PC so it's all I can recommend. I'm not sure if it works on OSX, though. Sorry. :P
Dude man, if you had said, "Madhouse made an anime of Rock 'n Roll Racing" I would have watched that shit the same day you told me about it. :p
It lost steam towards the end and the ending itself was lackluster, but it was a wild(and weird!) ride. I'm also pretty sure this was the best looking anime I've ever seen. However, if you're going to take years to draw a movie, try to use that time to come up with something worth drawing...
I had not heard of Persona 5, but after watching the P4 anime a few months ago, I'm not going to expect anything. If they try to make P5 with the same mindset as the P4 anime then it's just going to be a decent game at best.
The anime had the game's staff (director/artist/musician/etc.) but they cut out so much that it lost almost all of the character development and interaction, not to mention the game's powerful message. Then again, even an incomplete P4 was worth a 6.5, and that puts it far above almost all of what I've been watching lately...
I have all 10GB of Redline ready to be watched, and I found something called Space Dandy while I was looking for it. I'll let you know if it's similar when I watch it. I wait for a good BD release of something before I watch it, so I won't get around to it for a few months.
I would have to watch it to know if I'm a fan or not. :P
One of these days, I'll have to comb through the database like I used to. I literally couldn't name one single anime that aired in the last few years. At least that means there's a lot of new stuff just waiting for me.
It really depends on what you'll actually be doing. If you'll be doing something that is actually fun, then you wouldn't need to look for entertainment elsewhere.
Also, depending on where you'll be doing, whatever you'll be doing, it might be kind of hard to sit down and play games. :P
When you leave, make sure to throw a claymore at them while screaming "FREEEEEEEEDOOOOOOOMMMMMMMM." Bonus points for not wearing pants. :P
As for ZnT...you skipped seasons? And now you want...a motorcycle? Maybe it's best if you don't update your list.
I'm trying to imagine $20 giving me 200 miles... I don't actually know what my car gets, but it's definitely not anywhere near that good. I guess you've already saved some real money on your transportation and will continue to do so for as long as you drive...err, ride that. Tightening the belt is a good way to speed up the "beat life and relax afterwards" process.
Ouch, probably a core 2 laptop and a VM. With Apple's design standards, that thing would probably be on fire and throttling. :/ Well, maybe once you become a billionaire you can afford a new midrange Apple laptop. :P
Since you say you're going to be busier than before, then my previous recommendations for $1 phone games are actually even more relevant that what I was going to say. You should seriously look into "pick up and play," as I know all too well that even things like 12 episode anime seasons become a hard proposition when you're going all in on the business side. If I had bluestacks years ago(although I guess it didn't exist years ago), I would have been able to break up the monotony(sp?). At least I've already come out the other side. :P
If you could read the comment below this one, and then continue from here, that would be great. :/ I can't edit/delete stuff without allowing javascript, so you get two comments this time!
Really going back to the VM thing, I should have also asked you about your CPU/GPU/RAM. I saw that parallels only runs on Intel Macs, so I'm assuming you at least have a Core 2 Duo/Quad. I'm not sure what additional strain running a VM would cause as I've never used one for anything serious.
I also should have asked if you still play games. lol I can't remember the last time I went to AN and we don't really talk about it here, but I know that you recently recommended Dark/Demon('s?) Soul('s?) to me, so I just assumed you still do. But if you don't, then you don't even need to worry about my parallels questions.
I've been going off your list this whole time, thinking you've only seen up through season 2. If you already finished the anime, you need to update your list. :P
Not like I'm one to talk, though. I've just been slowly but surely rewatching my favorites over the past few months. When my score deviates a lot from what I had it as, I don't even bother to increase the rewatch counter here. As it is, I feel like I should zero out my rewatches for anything beyond a few years ago, but that would be too extreme.
By the way, I was looking at what you said before, and I don't exactly associate Kawasaki with taking a leisurely ride around the neighborhood. When you say "bike," do you really mean motorcycle? *Pre-emptive can I have your stuff* I also thought it was weird that you would buy a 20 year old bike. lol But really, you wouldn't catch me dead on a motorcycle. >.>
I haven't seen the last season yet, but I can tell you that whatever it concluded, it wasn't what it started. It's been a while, but if I remember correctly, the first 3 seasons loosely covered the first 10 volumes while almost entirely skipping one of them. That left another 10 published volumes for the fourth season when it was made, yet it's only 12 episodes long. Hopefully it's good, whatever it is, but we'll obviously never get to see the real ending now.
Ironically, the reason I asked you about bootcamp is no longer an issue, but it's good to know that you have an actual VM for running windows.
I go to my profile by just typing in the URL, so I'm never logged into MAL until I do it manually. I read your post, logged into MAL, and then I was greeted by the latest news(4/10) on the righthand side of the screen. Now, I'm going to go sulk in a corner for the next few days instead. :/
I just figured it would look weird that I logged in but didn't reply, so now you know.
I had to look to see when I finished My Balls(???), and I was thinking it would be something like a few weeks ago, but no, it was 4 months ago. Those 4 months to me have gone by so fast that I don't even really categorize time into days/weeks/months.
My balls just kind of faded out somewhere in the middle. I'm not sure if the mangaka ran out of creative "goofy sex act of the week," stories of if an editor nudged him in the wrong direction, but I could have done without the second half. It was mostly boring, but the way the "final" issue was resolved, everything was so rushed and haphazardly swept under the rug that I didn't feel like I finished much of anything.
Anyhoo. :P
On your end, if you're close to getting out of the system, then really go for it and don't worry at all about replying. Those were some of the least useful years of my life and I'd like to forget they even happened, but we've talked about that before. lol
Thinking about the iDevice generation issue again, it's been a while, but I'm kind of remembering reading something that games(or was it "apps" in general) are designed such that each generation of iDevice handles things differently, so you might actually be ok with the first one.
Let's just say that the great outdoors is not my area of expertise. lol I rode a bike for a little while when I was a kid, and I kind of remember trying...uhh...the skates with wheels in one line. I guess I need to link this too(the name of that one was ironically fitting). I never really had to go anywhere that was so far that walking was a problem, so I just lost interest in them. Also, bears.
Now, I has a question for you, about the land of Appholia. Do you or have you ever run bootcamp? I think that's the name for running Windows on a Mac. Since you mentioned the college stuff that's all I'll say for now so you can focus on it. I really just want to know if that's an option for you.
I just finished up Osmos, and it fit in nicely with the other short/different games I've been playing lately. At first I thought I was screwed because the android page talked about showing off multitouch functionality, but then I saw that there was a PC version so I just got that. :P
I unfortunately completely lost interest in it once I got to the outer "ring" of levels, as all of those ones had such hostile starting conditions. You literally had one chance within the first few seconds to set a good course or you lost the map. For a game with such a simple concept and a very quick way to restart a map, I'm not sure why they did that. I just ended up instantly restarting maps over and over if I missed that first "opportunity."
The worst part was what happened if you did set yourself on a good course. Now you have to slowly move around all of the large blobs until you get to the smaller ones that are scattered all over the huge map. It's not like the large blobs are ever going to hit you, they're so slow you'd have to be blind to run into one. This made everything after the first few seconds really boring. I know there was a way to manipulate the speed of the game, but speeding things up would probably be the only way I'd run into the larger blobs, so...epic feature fail. :P
They tried to add difficulty to a game where it didn't belong and ended up with nothing but artificial length. This certainly isn't the first game to make that mistake, but at least it was fun before the artificial length kicked in.
