I enjoyed reading your review on Getter robo. One specific point you bring up that is really immportant is that the series is a product of its time. In no way shape or form should it be compared to modern anime. I really get tired of people judging an old classic anime for being terrible because they are comparing it to modern trends and more inventful story telling with more serialized naratives. Obvously with a series that aired in 1974 its going to be quite different then a series airing this year. One of the things I like to do specifically is tally each show that aired during that time for example, Mazinger, geter robo, Gatchaman, Lupin, Devilman, etc. Look at each show and see which series ultimatly came out on top, then its a fair asessment because your basing your rating on shows that aired in the early to mid 70's. I really wish more people would understand this.
oh and just a FYI, personally for me Gatchaman was probably the best in terms of mecha during those early 70's. At least so far that I have encountered. Over all i would say Yamato is my favorite though from early to mid 70's. Still have not gotten to the late 70's yet and I have heard the monster of the week starts to shift more towards serialization in the late 70's with things like Gundam, Tadao Nagahama Romance trilogy, voltron and macross. So looking forward to all that.
