Have a nice day !!!!!!!!!!
It's great that you're taking interest in older anime! Make sure you don't sleep on the '70s when you're further exploring the medium! Most people usually talk about the '80s and '90s when it comes to classic anime, but the '70s are supremely underrated. That decade has such a distinct, elegant nature to it. Some obvious standouts include: Ashita no Joe, Rose of Versailles, Galaxy Express 999, and Anne of Green Gables - from what I've personally seen. Of course there's much more than that, though. Also, if you want to watch something from the '80s that not nearly enough people have talked about, I highly recommend The Star of Cottonland. It's one of my favorite films of all time. Anyway, enough of that, haha. I hope you enjoy Legend of the Galactic Heroes!
You should start with "My Conquest is the Sea of Stars" and then watch "Overture to a New War," by the way. Conquest serves as a good introduction to the cast and Overture is a remake of sorts of the first three episodes, with better production quality and more.
