As I've gotten older (and I'm really not that old yet, I promise) I've definitely found I agree more with your second point, that stories should be reviewed based on how well they accomplish what they set out to and not on whether or not I as an individual agree with the ideas they're spreading. It's become fairly obvious that nearly every anime/TV show has at least some elements of it that I disagree with, and to condemn them based on that would really just be a waste of time and a terribly personal way to critique media. It's still something I take into account, but at a very different scale. I do, however, think that there are nuances to it. Nise doesn't deserve that 1 because Nise isn't a story with the primary objective of promoting sexual harrassment. It's part of a very thorough character drama examining various unhealthy mentalities and how to change them. It's good at this, which should be acknowledged. The fanservice is a crappy afterthought at worst. On the other hand, I've recently been watching Grand Blue, and that's a show I feel is inseparable from its central and constant objective to promote the merits of college Greek Life. As someone who's been to college parties I can say with certainty that it's rosy depiction of binge-drinking and gender-role assessment are extremely inaccurate to the point of stupidity, and I feel it's fair to condemn that show for trying to depict a controversial lifestyle in a blatantly misleading way.
You're also right that at that time I was being condescending to people younger than me. As a teacher now, I definitely don't underestimate kids. I think people of all ages are far more discerning and self-aware than we give them credit for. However, intelligent people of all ages can be affected by repeated exposure to media, and just like my Grandmother has watched enough Fox News to start wondering if Obama was actually a Muslim terrorist, so have I already seen people posting comments on Grand Blue episodes like 'I'm gonna make my college life like this!" or "damn, I wish my life in college has been more like this." I would no longer make the foolhardy claim that it's our youth specifically that are at risk from propaganda media bubbles. It's everyone. Regardless of whether we take this into account when reviewing, it's still something to keep in mind.
Overall though, thanks for pointing out those issues with that review. I agree with a lot of what you said, and I always appreciate constructive criticism!
so thx
Also I am unsure in what world you live on but women were always attracted by powerful men and always will be. The welfare state allows them to pretend they are independent but they are optimised for making and raising toddlers. They are inferior to men on anything unrelated and is just biology. And every experiment where women had to survive by themselves for extended periods of time showed they cannot do it.
Also the moment a real war starts all women will drop the feminist pretenses and line up behind men. Feminism is not new, is something that happened before in the history of human civilisation. The moment a society becomes strong enough to have relative peace women demand for rights then the welfare state and then the whole thing goes to hell because the economy cannot support the ever increasing welfare state and also since women have less children they lack both military and working power to resists. And thus they collapse just as it happened to ancient rome.
Also: Finish Ousama Game. The whole show is hysterically bad, but the ending is the ridiculous cherry on top.
