I also have an account on AniList, decimal scores are great and no character limit for tags means that I can write a lot more, hooray. If you wish to read those, go to my anilist page since my comments there are much more elaborated and complete.

Rating system (Updated)
Well, I don’t think MAL rating system is accurate enough for me so I added up a +5 point scale of a 0-100 scale with a quick description of how I feel about each tier. A +5 point scale isn't really necessary for animes and mangas that I rated below average.
100 (Greatest of All Time) - Self-explanatory. 95 (Masterpiece) - All-time favorites. Can't find much that could've been done better. 90 (Legendary) - Strongly resonates with me on every conceivable level. Made for me. 85 (Fantastic) - I'm fascinated. It appeals to me deeply on a conceptual/personal level. 80 (Excellent) - I'm thrilled. I adore it and, from this point upwards, one could say they are part of my personal favorites. Exceptional experience. 75 (Very Good) - I'm overjoyed and like it a ton. Intense, rewarding and/or remarkable in many ways. Just a bit short of becoming a personal favorite. 70 (Good) - I'm impressed. I strongly like it and had mostly a great time. Very memorable. 65 (Very Enjoyable) - I'm excited. I really like it and have pleasant memories. There is something noteworthy that stuck with me. 60 (Enjoyable) - I'm satisfied. I like it on a basic level, even though it didn't fully captivate me. 55 (Decent) - It's ok, I can see its appeal but it's not something that grabs my attention or make me care enough. I might enjoy a few of them. 50 (Average) - Indifference. I don't like it neither dislike it. 40 (Bad) - Disappointing experience overall. Not for me. 30 (Terrible) - Rage-inducing stuff. From this tier downwards it reflects different intensities of distaste. 20 (Strong headaches, nausea, IQ loss) - Straight to the garbage bin. 10 (MY EYES… ARGH! PLEASE MAKE IT STOP)
Thanks, man! I appreciate it. Lol suppose I’ll start saving up.
I hope your Japan travels go through and go well. What are some locations you plan to visit? That’s nice that you have someone there to help you with your stay. I’m sure that makes it easy knowing you don’t have to stay in a hotel and worry about all that stuff. I’m sure it also helps knowing you can have someone to help show you around locally.
That sounds amazing. I’m glad you had a great time. Sorry to hear about the nails, but it sounds like an amazing trip. I have no idea how well I’d do in freezing temperatures like that. How long did it take?
All this travel talk and meeting people is making me feel jealous, lol. A trip like that would be cool, but I only know the absolute basics of Spanish. I’m nowhere near fluent, lol. Those high school Spanish classes won’t help me!
I agree on the part about RNG with Hades. I definitely started to feel a little bit of contempt towards the RNG while I was gunning for the final ending. As achieving that ending requires you to talk to specific gods a certain number of times in order to advance and accept their individual quests. Sometimes you won’t get the dialogue you even want from them in order to advance. You need to boost your relationship with them as well. The problem then comes that you can go through a whole run of Hades without even meeting the very specific god you want to talk to. I got to the point where I would meet the god I’m gunning for then just let Zagreus die in the combat encounter. It was just faster that way.
Lord, a lot of the times when I finish a JRPG, I simply can’t just start another one. I need to give myself a little breathing room before I start the next one. Since they’re usually a large time investment with the way I play those sorts of games. I’m definitely not a completionist, but I like to try do most things in large games like those. That’s also why it took so long for me to finish Dragon Age: Origins. It’s why I want to play some other smaller games before I move on to the next big time investment. I really want to get to P2: Eternal Punishment, that’s likely going to be my next big RPG I dive into. I did play a little bit of FFIX, I didn’t really get far. Around the time I started it, I think I wasn’t really in the mood for a JRPG, so I put it on hold. Unfortunate, as I hear really good things about FFIX. I’d like to get back to it. Also, for Xenoblade, I’m playing the definitive version which is on the Switch.
Lol yea Bloodborne and Sekiro are probably my favorite out of FromSoft’s games. But with Dark Souls and Elden Ring, I ultimately want to go for the weighty weapons like hammers, clubs, and such. It’s honestly just satisfying using those weapons for me. You ever land a perfectly timed, charged heavy on an invader with one of them with a big ol club? It’s satisfying, lol. There are also some good offensive spells using faith like lightning as opposed to buffs and cleansing abilities, which is cool.
Umineko feels like one of those things I’d continue to say “I’ll get to it!”, but likely won’t in the near future. Probably because I don’t typically play visual novels. I’m simply not sure how long it would take me to give it a chance. It definitely sounds neat though, given your description. Is the manga version good, though?
I hope you have a great one. Hope you’ve been well since my last response. :)
That would’ve been cool if you had been able to go. Man… At least you got your money back for the Olympics tickets.
Yea, before I settle down, I would really like to go around the world and visit some places, Japan included. As you said, there are some gorgeous sights to behold in Japan. I have no idea how I’d cover the expenses for such a thing. But I would love to be able to do so. I want to break out of the US and make some travel plans at some point in my life. I certainly hope some of your travel plans for this year come to fruition. Since it’s been a bit, any updates?
Good luck! I feel like I’ve been playing nothing but super long games lately. Finished Hades which took forever, but it was great. I like games that incorporate its storytelling through the gameplay mechanics, taking advantage of the medium. There are large portions of dialogue and the game itself that you won’t experience unless you go through the game’s death system. The more you die in the game, the more dialogue interactions you can have with characters in the game and such. It’s also interweaved through the game’s main story, with Zagreus’s various attempts to escape the underworld to meet his goals (trying not to spoil). Getting to that last ending was a pain, though. Then I played Dragon Age: Origins which I also thought was pretty good, albeit frustrating at times. That also took me a long time to finish. Now I’m starting Xenoblade Chronicles… a jrpg…
Playing through Dark Souls, I tended to favor some sort of faith-centered builds so I that I could take advantage of miracles (or in Elden Ring’s case, incantations). Playing through Dark Souls 3 and now Elden Ring with my brother, I tend to be the healer so I would focus on that. Also allows me to take advantages of the buffs and debuffs in there. Of course, after making sure that Vigor, Mind, and Endurance are balanced suited for my current level. Then I like to start putting points into strength, as usually my final weapons I like to stick with are large blunt weapons like hammers or such, lol. What kind of builds do you usually like in FromSoft games?
I’m glad you enjoyed Kaguya-hime, that’s a great film. It’s a beautifully animated film. And Anne of Green Gables is also amazing. : )
My friend and I that were groupwatching Ideon decided to put it on hold for now. After going through about 20 episodes, I don’t think either one of us were really reeled into the show. Neither of us really particularly cared for the characters on screen and the structure of the show felt repetitive. We’ll try to get back to it, I feel. I guess it just didn’t grab us. A lot of people when it comes to talking about Ideon mostly talk about the movies, I feel. In particular, Be Invoked. I hear some of the cool stuff happens in the latter half of the story, so maybe it does get better.
I see.. so the gameplay made it kind of mind-numbing, I guess? I’ve seen some videos talking about The Medium at length and I hear it carries some irresponsible messaging about grief and trauma. Not sure how much of the narrative you experienced, but what would be your opinion on it?
My goodness, I will likely get back on Alita soon. It’s been too long. It’s cool, man.
Yes, Dennou Coil was a really solid show. In the show, the setting is in a city that that has an alternate virtual reality layered on the top of the town. The story’s focus is on how the children in the show filter their emotions and experiences through this new technology, particularly, tragedy and loss. And within that, there’s a certain distance that these children have from their parents given the parents in the show only are vaguely aware of how deep the rabbit hole goes with this new technology and view it only as a toy or distraction. So there’s that generational gap, there. I like media that focuses on the impact of technological advancement and its emotional and societal impact. I don’t want to go any more into it as I don’t want to spoil it for you. It’s overall a pretty good show and I would recommend it. : )
Yea, Elden Ring is a blast. And I agree with you there, the open world design of the game lends itself to becoming kind of volatile for people who simply like exploring first. That’s my brother and I playing through it. We haven’t even progressed in the main story for some time now because we’re so focused on going through all the other locations on the map. Not that I’m complaining that there’s so much to explore. But there is that fair share of areas like Caelid, if you simply waltz in early game you’re going to be very underleveled. Or stuff like the generic dungeon gargoyle boss I’ve faced so many times, now.
I have definitely heard of Umineko and am aware of its popularity. People I know have played it and have said good things about it. How are you enjoying it? I feel you might have finished with it by now, lol.
Mononoke was a great rewatch. The sound design and visuals make it an amazing horror experience. And I’m loving my Mushishi rewatch.
Again, I feel I must apologize for how long it’s taken to give you a reply. Hope all is going well on your end! Also, after a year of job searching, I found a company that was willing to give me a chance. I'm still riddled with anxiety but I'm grateful.
Thanks man! A lot of my anxieties right now are likely that I'm simply impatient.
I hear you. Although, to be honest, I can't say that my hobbies were affected too much by the pandemic as in my free time, I'm usually kind of a homebody. Sad to hear it's affected you in that regard. I hope you and your loved ones are safe, nonetheless. Travel the world? What are your travel plans? And yea, I live in the USA.
I'd say you don't necessarily need to play the other games in order to enjoy Like A Dragon. It does take place some time after Yakuza 6. I enjoyed it, though, just fine and I haven't played Yakuza 5 or 6. However, there are a couple characters that show up from previous Yakuza games that you may not recognize including Taiga, Daigo, and maybe a few others. You may need some context behind these characters to understand their place in the story. To answer your question, yes, but you may be missing out on a few details.
I'm kind of the same way with the manner in which I approach games. I'll try my best to tackle all the side content before progressing in the main story at most points in my playthrough unless I find it rather monotonous or excruciating... Or both. As for leaving things on backloggd, I'm also kind of poor in that regard as I also used to do the same. That's why lately if I'm going to start something, I choose to be hyper focused on finishing it unless I really don't find it worth my time and will just drop it. As I really don't want to increase the amount of things on my backloggd. Or at least that's the goal I'm trying to set for myself. As a result of that, I've become kind of particular in how I watch or play things. For example, I started playing Hades (which is pretty good.) quite a while ago but I refuse to start another game until I finish it and get the last ending (which is turning out be taking a lot longer than expected.) An exception is if it's something that I'm playing with someone. I recently started playing Elden Ring with my brother, for example, and it's been a blast.
I am still rather interested in Gasaraki, honestly, since it's from Ryousuke Takahashi, the creator of a lot cool early mecha. I guess it's definitely something that no members of your groupwatch enjoyed it. My goodness. I hope your groupwatch's next venture is more fruitful, though.
I just recently finished groupwatches of Victory Gundam and Mobile Fighter G Gundam. I have mixed feelings for Victory Gundam but I thought G Gundam was a fairly fun watch. I'm now groupwatching both Ideon and 86 Eighty Six. I need to watch Fafner at some point as I've heard good things about it.
Origin is good. You definitely should watch more Gundam. I think you might enjoy it. There are quite a few highs and lows but I'd likely say that Gundam is my favorite franchise. If you want to experience more Chad Aznable, you could always try with the first Mobile Suit Gundam. Gundam ZZ is, indeed, regarded as pretty bad among the franchise. And while I don't really care for it, I also think it's far from the worst Gundam I've seen. I think a lot of it may have to do with the fact that it takes place right after Zeta Gundam which is a pretty well regarded point of the franchise and the disappointment from that.
For whatever reason, I stopped at Golden Wind. I definitely should return to Jojo and finish that as Stone Ocean is currently going.
That's great. I'm happy to hear that you a pretty good rig. DOOM Eternal is pretty darn good. I'm not the best at it but it's such a great feeling when I get through a tough encounter. Simply a really refined shooter.
Oh lord, I have not heard good things about the Medium since it's come out. I remember being rather interested in it knowing that Akira Yamaoka had a credit for the soundtrack. Even if I didn't the capability of actually playing it, I was excited for the prospect of him doing the sound for another horror game. Do tell me more when you get further into it. I'm curious how you may feel about it.
Ummm... I need to get back on my re-read with Alita. That's all I can say. I have no excuses. :/
I'll let you know. For Ideon currently, I'm not sure what my feelings are on it as of yet. The first few episodes haven't left me with a strong impression. As for Dennou Coil, I'm close to finishing it and I think it's a solid show. I'll expand more on it when I get to finishing it.
Elden Ring is the first game in years that I have purchased around the day of release. And a lot of that has to do with my fondness for FromSoft's previous outings as well as it being something that my brother was really excited for. Going through it with him has been a lot of fun. Enjoy Elden Ring, mate.

Hey, man! Please don’t worry about the time it takes to reply. Especially with how excruciatingly long it has taken me to give you a response. I’ve been trying to situate myself since I’ve graduated and stressing myself out with it. I unfortunately haven’t taken the time since to get back on Anilist and such. I’m really sorry about this. So please don’t worry about it, mate.
I’ve never played the PS2 original of Yakuza but I’ve heard it plays differently from the Kiwami version. Since this comment, I’ve played Yakuza 7: Like a Dragon and really enjoyed it. I’d probably put it as my favorite Yakuza behind Yakuza 0. I personally find Ichiban to be a really nice change of pace as far as Yakuza protagonists are concerned. He’s a lot more emotional and reckless than Kiryu but I find him to be really endearing for it. The actual JRPG side of the game I’m rather mixed on, though. It really feels like they didn’t flesh out the pace of the game on this end as there are some really back jumps in difficulty towards the end of the game. The combat can be pretty fun but it can also become a bit monotonous over time as encounters are frequent. I still need to play Yakuza 2, 5 and 6.
I understand. I hope you’ve been doing well lately, man. Again, sorry for not getting to you for a rather long time. How have you been, man? I hope you’ve been well.
I see you’ve finished Gasaraki since this comment. How did you feel about it in the end? I see your score isn’t too good for it. :0
The groupwatching was on hold for quite a bit as we all ended up getting really busy around that time. My group has picked up though and we’re watching Mobile Fighter G Gundam together which is pretty fun. The Zeta rewatch was great. Helped me to appreciate more things about it, I think. Then I went on to ZZ and… I have mixed feelings on that.
Nice to hear of your mesmerizing experience with K7. I enjoyed The Silver Case. Although, I will admit that it’s like you said. It’s really dense and hard to sink yourself into at first. Especially for someone like who hasn’t really played VN’s. I found the atmosphere engrossing, though, which I think is what compelled me at first.
Yea, I might go for that the next time I want to take a crack at Fist of the North Star. Twice or thrice with the anime now and I just keep putting it off… And I guess he is the Japanese equivalent of Superman, lol.
Yea, I played a lot ME 3 when I was younger despite its issues. Also played ME 2 a handful of times. The one I’ve played through the least number of times through is the first. Since a lot of time has passed between your comment and this one, did you end up getting the new computer you mentioned? The ME 3 ending will forever be one of the most infamous endings in video gaming, really.
Yea, that’s also a part of why Daigoro was such a great part of the duo protagonists we have in Lone Wolf and Cub. He was a nice contrast to his father (even if he ultimately takes after him in a lot of ways). And a few of his stories and perspective have some of the best moments that Lone Wolf and Cub has to offer. After it being some time since I finished Lone Wolf and Cub, I think I kind of feel the same way about Shin Lone Wolf and Cub. Not really feeling a strong urge to read it as the original ending is quite impactful the way it is.
Again, I’m so sorry it’s taken so long to get back to you man. For however long it takes to write back, I hope you have a great one!
Hi there. Thanks for reading my reviews and keeping up with my works.
I'll say this upfront but we couldn't cover RahXephon quite to the extent that I was satisfied with this time because one of us didn't charge his laptop enough and it was about to die, so he urged us to move onto the final topic of the episode before we really could get all our points across. As such, it felt like we were largely covering similar points but with the newfound information Rah presented in its last 7 episodes. I would have liked to have discussed aspects such as how I find Reika/Ixtill and Quon to be BS and often used as deus ex machinas, or what I think about some of the characters (obviously, I couldn't go into some of the reveals cuz Lonecrit hasn't seen it yet and wants to at some point).
I do get that, though personally, I do stand by everything I've said. It really just expects you to get with the program regarding how its powers and mechanics work without really explaining anything regarding the Mu or RahXephon for the most part, leaving me with a lot of questions as I try to piece things together, like how the whole Jupiter bomb time dilation thing works and how anyone managed to settle in Tokyo Jupiter after it became a Jupiter wasteland and how they somehow manage to gaslight Ayato and everyone in TJ by the beginning of the series. Ixtil can exist in multiple spaces at once, Mus can sometimes just teleport, seemingly, and then from episode 23 to 24, we go from one Mu ship to an entire army we never had any reason to know actually existed since they never had or alluded to having anywhere near such forces until now.
There are certainly many points where the anime sprinkles little tidbits and character stories that only really click into place several episodes later (up to half the series later) like Jin's or Makoto's episodes as we covered, and there were several points where I went "oh so that's what they were doing" or
in the case of it turning out that Haruka was Ayato's GF from back in the day, "oh so that's why the my dear you are a liar line stuck with her so much, I thought that was just a 'fuck you specifically' moment to her but no, she really was his dear and he was brainwashed into not knowing that anymore".
The show really does try to have that kind of self-revealing puzzle approach to its storytelling, and I wanted to cover how unlike say, Penguindrum or even SSSS.Dynazenon, I don't feel it executes that well enough, even though I know there are aspects that do click into place and provide that "oh, now I get it" moment which was rewarding outside of a few aspects I felt were probably even stronger on their own without the newfound context like the ending of episode 5 where Ayato is welcomed into his new home of sorts with a proper name plaque.
By the end of my viewing of the show, I was left with too many unanswered questions regarding how things could have possibly led to where we start given what we know about the mechanics of this world, and how we still don't know anything about what I had to look up to learn was stuff like Mu ranking systems, how one gets turned into a dolem, why for some, dolems are a physicals extension of themselves that they're aware of and they can control while for Asahina, it wasn't quite like that. Do Mus have a way of forcing that Dolem extension thing to awaken within them, and if so, how does...any of that work? I can't just suspend my disbelief and go "ok Mus just have certain powers cuz aliens" when they seemingly conflict and they're so abstract and we don't even get any kind of answers or handwaiving for much of it. Perhaps some of that is also rooted in Mayan mythology much like a lot of its terminology and concepts (most of which get explained by the end) are, but in that case, I don't think you should have to be an expert in Mayan mythology for what seems like very dubious holes and inconsistencies and whatnot to be answered or make sense to the viewer, especially since there are still aspects that won't have any justification no matter what when I feel it's needed.
I wish I could have covered a lot of this in the podcast as it was new and necessary information Kaiser and I wanted to bring up to better explain our frustrated, conflicted, and just downright middling to negative perspectives without the portion mostly being a repeat but with some new context added and a few brand new points thrown in there. We do hope to talk about it again some day so we can actually get to those points, and maybe touch on other positive aspects aside from the audio visuals mostly being pretty good, since we were pretty dissatisfied by how we had to abruptly end the convo when there was so much we wanted to get into to really justify bringing it back up in the first place. It's not a particularly bad show in my view or Kaiser's, but there was a lot of confusing and frustrating elements that didn't click, which really soured our views of the show and made them more mixed. As Kaiser said, it's def a cast where "I dunno if maybe I'm the dumbass here or if maybe the anime's just dumb" cuz it's def a case where despite piecing some stuff together, it's still a confusing confounding watch which left us with lots of questions because we tried to think about and scrutinize certain aspects of it rather than just going along for the ride like we feel the show wants you to do for the most part. I can see why it can come off as disrespectful, especially the line about how "insert drug here" was what the show's creators was on joke, though I don't think that was Kaiser's and Lone's intention when making that "haha trippy drugs for weird, confounding show" joke.
Don’t think I ever used the auto-combat mode in DMC 5. But for Nero, I found using the Gerbera incredibly helpful as tapping the Devil Breaker button kind of acts as a dodge. I remember quite liking Punch Line. It was fun because you could launch the arm and distract some enemies with it while you focused on others. You could also ride it which was sweet. I didn’t really use ragtime all that much, though.
NMH 1 and 2 were ported to the Nintendo Switch but it’d be cool if there was some sort of PC release. The only thing about it is the motion controls for the game and how that would be translated to a console lacking that. I played NMH on the Switch. Unfortunate to hear that K7 kept crashing on you. Not sure what the problem could be. :<
Oh, I’m certain that Flowers, Sun, and Rain is an oddball of a game anyway. It is a Suda51 game in the end, lol. And how did you like what you played of the Silver Case? Still haven’t finished yet. But I’m focusing a bit more on it lately.
I guess you can say you experienced Hatoful Boyfriend in all it’s… boring glory, lol.
The next FromSoft game that I will tackle will likely be Sekiro as I’ve gotten a copy of it. I’m looking forward to it!
It’s very funny how CDProjekt have kind of outed themselves as no different than companies like EA or Ubisoft as far as being incredibly scummy since they have for years tried to create an image distinguishing themselves from those companies. They were touted as the big AAA game company that would never try to pull scummy shenanigans on the consumer. Then they blatantly lied about the state of the game leading up to its release and mandated specific video footage to be showed by gaming media outlets for video reviews when it comes to Cyberpunk. And then of course there’s the whole situation with Red Candle as we discussed before. I will most certainly play Red Candle’s games at some point. Not sure when, though.
Oh, yes. LOGH’s time will come. I’m really not sure when, though. Yu Yu Hakusho is also another long-running show that I would like to check out. So you would recommend the manga over the anime for Fist of the North Star? I’ve tried tackling the show twice and subsequently slapped it on hold twice now. I think I will go for the manga the next time I want to take a crack at it. And yea, Fist of the North Star is the kind of property that puts hair on your chest. No one manlier than Kenshiro.
I played through Mass Effect 3 multiple times, but I believe that, my first time around, I chose the control ending. I could’ve done destruction, but I think I figured at the time that there could’ve been some use out of controlling the reapers after the events of the game. Not like you’d get to see it but I guess that way my reasoning.
Oh, I agree. The synthesis ending works against a lot of what the trilogy was building up to. It’s weird because it’s the one ending that you need to do the most to unlock. It’s the ending that requires the highest amount of military strength to unlock. Since it’s the ending choice that you need to work the most for, it kind of gives the impression that it should be the ‘true ending’ or canon ending or whatever. So, is it the point now that the forced combination of organic and synthetic life is the only way to move forward in the galaxy? It just doesn’t make any sense.
Yea, I’m honestly curious whatever the hell they’re doing with that new Mass Effect but I’m not going to get it either. Andromeda has told me that they don’t care much at all about creating new and worthwhile experiences for the Mass Effect series. The story in Andromeda was about as dull of an RPG experience you can get.
I think the some of the Diagoro stories contain some of the most harrowing and emotional moments in the manga. They’re great at portraying the subtle differences between him and his father. I absolutely agree. Lone Wolf and Cub was a great experience.
Ye, the manga goes to great lengths to capture its historical setting. There was a sort of glossary at the end of every volume of Lone Wolf and Cub, explaining certain terms and places that were referenced in the text. Stuff that isn’t translatable from Japanese. Not gonna lie, those glossaries were necessary for me, sometimes. I suppose so. There’ll be some infodumps at the beginning or chapters or something like that and it’ll drag on, yea.
I really liked Genshiken up until a certain point. It established, I thought, a really good group dynamic for its cast of protagonists. Their individual quirks and drama were all good. Around the beginning of Genshiken: Second Season a godawful harem narrative forms for one of the main characters and everything else is put on hold. It becomes the central focus of the story at this point and it’s mind-numbingly dumb. I was severely disappointed by the end for what I thought had a strong start. And the reason for the difference in scores is that on MAL, all of the Genshiken manga is condensed into entry. I ended up just rounding it to about a 5. As for Anilist, it splits up the manga between Genshiken and Genshiken: Second Season. For the first part, I gave a 7, and for the second part, I gave it a 4.
Me lembrarei disso.

You have a great day as well. Until next time.

There are certainly many points where the anime sprinkles little tidbits and character stories that only really click into place several episodes later (up to half the series later) like Jin's or Makoto's episodes as we covered, and there were several points where I went "oh so that's what they were doing" or
The show really does try to have that kind of self-revealing puzzle approach to its storytelling, and I wanted to cover how unlike say, Penguindrum or even SSSS.Dynazenon, I don't feel it executes that well enough, even though I know there are aspects that do click into place and provide that "oh, now I get it" moment which was rewarding outside of a few aspects I felt were probably even stronger on their own without the newfound context like the ending of episode 5 where Ayato is welcomed into his new home of sorts with a proper name plaque.
