Most anime are pretty bad. If I like an anime it must be pretty great. I usually only end up watching a few shows per season.
I tend to like anime with lots of action and comedy, as well as hot-blooded battles and bright vivid colors. I love seeing scenes in shows which are surprisingly well-animated compared to the rest of the series. I prefer super-robo to realistic mecha.
Slice-of-life shows bore me to death. I also am not a fan of computer-generated graphics.
I particularly enjoy the works of Masaki Tsuzuki as I find his worlds to be a neat mix of magic and technology. I love the art of Go Nagai, and find that one of the most interesting things about a new anime season is reading up on all the voice actors and directors and following their work throughout the seasons.
To me, watching anime is about appreciating art and animation and having fun. Being an anime fan is not about watching a few episodes of a show so you can feel like you are part of a special group of geeks and go to conventions to get attention. A true anime fan should always strive to learn more about their favorite shows and the people that make them.

ViVid or Force depends on the source of the manga, though I keep hoping that they make that one into anime someday.
