I read your Koe no Katachi review, and I feel like you're overly caught up in comparing the movie with the manga. Koe no Katachi is my favourite manga, and I still prefer the movie over it with good reason.
I feel it best to post my concerns in dot point form
1. What was "cut" from the manga, for the most part, was implied instead of explicitly stated in the movie. A lot of it wasn't cut. The loss of the movie arc was pretty severe, but also necessary
2. The original still exists, and the quality and ambiguity of the movie if anything provides advertisement for the source. If the movie cuts stuff from the source material, it isn't going to hurt it.
3. There's so much to love about the movie, especially the directing.
4. The movie does fix the two most infuriating scenes from the manga (Money burning scene and the "falling off balcony" scene) and it is drastically better for it.
EDIT: I do agree with the comment at the bottom though, the ending of the movie kind of sucked. Ishida cried too much for me to feel any emotion.
Thank you for the Koe no Katachi review. Even though I haven't read the manga, I suspected there was something essential missing. I had high hopes for the movie and was frustrated with how it turned out. Even more frustrating though, are the nonsensical reviews full of shallow praise that spread on MAL like cancer. ...people just don't understand their own emotions. In that sense, Koe no Katachi adaptation was a well calculated cash grab.
