Hello there, friend!
We at the Australian & New Zealand Anime Club are proud to present... Our very first newsletter!
This community was founded on the 28th of January - 2015, and since that time we've come a very long way.
You are only reading this because YOU made it possible by being a very important piece of what makes this club what it is.
That said, we are happy to announce that we're coming close to reaching the 1,000 Member Milestone!
It's a wonderful thing to know that there are so many fellow Aussies and Kiwis who love Anime and we hope that we only continue to grow from here on out.
About the newsletter:
So you might ask, what's this newsletter all about?
Well, great question. We've scratched our heads a few times and figured that this newsletter will be dedicated to letting you know that we're active!
Despite the substantial growth of our club, there is still a handful of you that we still haven't had the pleasure of getting to know.
We want you to understand that this is a safe and fun club, but if you're shy then we're not going to force you to participate, this is simply to remind you that there is a place for everyone at this club, so if you ever warm up - come and say hi!
Here's what's happening right now:
We have a wide selection of club activities that you can participate in, from anime discussion to club games or casual conversation.
Anyone in the club is free to make up whatever thread they feel would interest people!
What we hopefully have planned for the future:
GFX Competitions, Giveaways, Club Member of the Month, Gaming Groups and more!
So, other than that, there isn't much to say this time around but hopefully the next time we have to do this, there is much more to look forward to.
We again are thankful to have you, and hope that you come and have some fun with us sometime soon.
- Yours truly,
The Australian & New Zealand Anime Club.
Utopian stories huh? That would explain why you have Re-l there as your profile picture. Ergo Proxy was a really good show. Very well written and researched. From a philosophy stand point it covered a lot of the basics of Descartes. To use his famous line "cogito ergo sum" or "I think, therefore I am" and base Vincent Law's journey on it was quite interesting.
I still have to watch Akira. It was one of the series that I had on my hard drive before it crashed... Again from a philosophy and psychological aspect that's another great series based on what I've heard and read. I really want to experience it for myself soon.
It's funny to hear the creator of Oreimo say that as Oreimo is pretty much just fluff. It isn't thought provoking and is completely meant for fun. The Anime itself isn't detailed and very much a cookie cutter in terms of standards. Well, I suppose he says that because he knows what makes money and does what he needs to do.
I watched the original How to Train Your Dragon back when it theaters. It was pretty fun. I can't say I've watched anything else like it since but I see your point. My honest belief is that stories in general have gotten stale. It seems companies are only interested in funding very specific types of stories like Frozen's these days.
Koe no Katachi? I just read the synopsis of it and it seems interesting. I have to say you have some pretty good taste to come onto such a series.
I don't think I'm crazy, just easily addicted to good Anime :]. By the way how was Ano Hana?
I got the result of the midterm back. It was a B which for university level statistics is very average but considering how bad I am at math it really is good. It's rather disappointing how math works out for me, after doing all the questions, reading all the chapters and doing the bonus reviews all I can achieve is a B. Ha, what a life.
Thanks for the input on Oyasumi Punpun, I'll be sure to read it soon :]. I prefer these darker uglier series. They're far more interesting than the abundant happy ones.
I would have to agree with you on there being a lack of outstanding Anime lately. With each season I feel Anime as a whole deteriorates. The last series I finished was Great Teacher Onizuka which is a great series from 1999.
My choice of Anime is typically not airing but rather picking out the best from the past. I don't really believe in committing my valuable time to airing Anime as it tends to end up in disappointment. 3/8 Series I watched this season were dropped equating 12 episodes that I could have spent on a great series such as Ano Hana.
I don't blame you for waiting on Ano Hana either, I just finished it last month. It lived very much up to expectation and I ended up watching all 12 episodes the night before my Stats midterm. I don't regret doing so either :].
I'm sure you'll love it. The character depth and growth in the series is top notch and the pacing was perfect for setting the mood. I could say a bit more but I'd rather not accidentally spoil anything for you. I gave it a 9/10 as a Drama and it was well deserved.
I wish you would have given No Game No Life a better chance than one and a half episode. The pacing in this series is ridiculous. Very few minutes are wasted and everything is purposeful. The director was masterful at his job.
I don't think you're dim witted, just too impatient. For myself, when Anime requires thought that is when I'm most entertained. Something like Death Note was for that reason was very entertaining as what Kira and L did for the most part was logical and understandable.
Though honestly with No Game No Life I could not keep up. I couldn't figure out what they were planning until it was just about to happen. Trying to keep up with Sora and Shiro is near impossible. The writing for the games are amazing. Despite how crazy things get it is sensible and understandable when it happens.
The word game against Jibril was extremely well researched. The actual science and linguistic used in that episode was amazing.
I still need to read Oyasumi Punpun, I have it stored on my tablet too. I've been told it's very good, what do you think?
I think you judged unfairly rather than harshly. You're free to have your opinions but it'd be best to make them with some more care.
This season of Anime has been particularly weak but No Game No Life stood out. For myself out of the eight series I decided to watch this season it was the very best. It easily had the best writing and it's a shame you never went far enough into the series to experience it.
Just to check, are you suggesting that No Game No Life should have spent less time on explaining the games and more time playing the games?
The most likely outcome would then be a significant amount of audience lost and unable to keep up with the actual game taking place.
The writers were already clear and concise with the rules. I can't see how they could cut it down further. Aside from that, the rule explaining was just a few minutes each game. How'd you manage to get bored so quick?
The ecchi itself was also short. Most of the time it was put in during important dialogue such as Sora contemplating strategy. The entire purpose of that was to keep fans from getting bored. It wasn't a waste of time as the dialogue had to happen anyways.
But of course I know I'm not commenting to an objective person. No Game No Life had a cast of above average characters yet you raged and gave a rating of (1).
Honestly, it's ridiculous to let subjectivity cloud reality let alone contradict it.

As for ecchi and lolis that's just Anime. :]
