If it makes you feel better, add to every sentence IN MY OPINION.
10. Same as your ten.
9. Same as your nine.
8. An "8+" of sorts on your scale, distinguishing things just below a 9 but definitely above an 8.
7. An 8 on your scale. Yeah, I don't use 7 to call something "okay". REVOLUTIONARY.
6. A 7 or 7+ (marked in tags) on your scale.
5. A 6 on your scale, absolutely worth watching. Wow - INSANE how scores 6 and under are actually used now. It was ok, 7/10/7/10.
4. A 5 on your scale. Probably worth watching, but I dropped a few of these.
3. A 4 on your scale. You'll probably like plenty of things here since shows I actively dislike are in the 2 range. Still, not good to me!
2. A 2-3 on your scale. Shows rated in my 2-3 will have the translated score in the tags. Some are labeled as a 1 since my 1 score is really a 0.
1. I hate it (looks down) and can't understand it. Context of the show is the only thing that brings a show from a 2 down to a 1. For example, Gamers! pisses me off almost completely on the basis of the title.
See the whole problem with this "I wouldn't want to watch a 5 because 5 is only average why watch a 5 when you can watch a 7" crumbles apart when you realize that you might have a different opinion from the person scoring it. Many people also base what they want to watch on superficial reasons, such as length. Legend of the Galactic Heroes has barely over 100k people despite being ranked #6 currently, making it the #680 in popularity. This makes it about as popular as titles such as Ladies versus Butlers! and Devil Survivor 2 The Animation. Have you ever heard of these? Logically if everyone followed this so-called-philosophy of only watching highly scored things the popularity and rating ratio would be 1:1, which it is obviously not. Hoax!
There's plenty of other arguments against traditional scoring. Almost all ratings combine ratings such as giving 10/10s in story and artwork, 8/10 characters, a 4/10 soundtrack then proceed to undercut this and manage to give the show a 7 or an 8 overall. Despite having ideally perfect art and story and great characters, the soundtrack is scored with as much weight as the animation and bogs down the overall unfairly, which is clearly a flawed system. The only other review type is people that attempt to be subjective and factual at the same time, giving 9s in art, soundtrack, story, etc. yet giving the overall or enjoyment a 5 or 6 for literally no reason other than claiming some bullshit about how the presentation was lacking or something. While I disagree with the limits in rating by ones, I'd much prefer a 8 than a "meticulously calculated" 7.91747284583327 score. A final nail in the coffin is how 6 and under marks shows not worth watching almost 100% of the time. That makes literally all scores 6 and under effectively useless, with shows 5 and always being marked as something you shouldn't ever see. Might as well use a 5-star system in that case.
The first point I made is so important I'll do it again. A show could literally exist with consensus 10s in story, animation, characters, "enjoyment" but with a 5 in soundtrack many people would call it an 8 or a 9, despite literally having literally the best features in everything else. Since soundtrack is weighed as much as characters or animation, the ideally 'perfect' show is not considered a masterpiece because of one small irrevelant factor in it. Think about the last time you scored a show an 8 or a 9 rather than a 10 because it didn't have a great soundtrack. If your ratings actually mean anything, the answer should be never. This might not make sense, as the common argument is a 5/10 is a 50%, a failing grade. Considering how 7/10 is a decent score, a C-, I really think this holds no water.
Now I know the average person is too lazy to click these but I highly recommend you do so. There's some fun edgy things in these tabs.
"I have spoken to god... and he has abandoned MAL reviewers. And ONLY MAL reviewers. No one else."
This is so wrong on every single level that I just have to frame and laugh at it. Remember, if you literally can't think of anything to say in your 5 category review of a show that doesn't fit it always mindlessly bash on anything Shounen, even if unrelated. I swear, "shounen" itself is like a reverse version of Maromi.
My deleted Death Note review:
Surprise! One weird trick to fix your taste...
Seriously though, whoever thought putting fried eggs on top of avocados in an ad claiming to fix diabetes is an absolute genius.
Overall Death Note is a very solid Japanese anime, 7/7 so a 1. Overall 5/10.
Title: 9/10. The title is pretty good, being Death Note, the main driving force in the series. It's very fitting and I don't hate the name I guess so it was ok. Some parts of it I don't like, especially the "e" at the end of Note but it didn't detract from the experience much.
Eye Colors: 8/10. The colors used are mostly brown, black and grey, except when the color pallet changes dramatically. I have to dock 2 points for this because of consistency; how can a show ever deviate from one model???
Sound: death/note. There is indeed audio in the show, which is of decent quality and not overly distorted at the appropriate hertz count.
Visual: 10/10. Stunningly, this features several hand-drawn digital images which are on screen for about 0.16 seconds before switching to the next image. This creates the illusion of movement, which fooled me pretty good. Clearly demonstrates a masterful understanding of how to make the illusion of life. Also the show sometimes is just one frame, and this is why I had to detract points.
TL;DR: 5/10. I thought it was reely, good. for the MAny reasons below/ . sO overall i"D give it a 7.52338123, a mediocre score. I've created an insight poster on how I read scores on NGE. Sad!
I have my own list of favorites in every category, even some of my own made-up ones. If you want normal favorites and the aforementioned things that would be here.
Also (sadly) I removed the having one 5 meme because while my list works surprisingly well without a 5 (7) I still want it back. To see what it looked like, look at the hilarious stats from it.
