Noting your description, I felt like clarifying that basically no one sees Shinsekai Yori the same way as Elfen Lied.
Most I know who enjoy SSY have Elfen Lied a 4 or lower for it being much more incompetent. If the MAL score didn’t tip you, plenty people actually like that one, and most people I know who like it are adults who watched it all the way through and have logical taste. Both attempt to cover racism of some form, but Elfen Lied pretends to be a harem comedy while the other attempts to be a mutilayered mystery dystopia. Also I don’t just dismiss the look as just ugly, that’s just a unique style and for what it’s worth it helps the show stand out and make the uglier and prettier parts of the world look better by comparison. Some shows attempting a similar atmosphere comparatively looked too clean and it detracts from atmosphere.
If it’s a “not for me”, fair enough, that’s fine, but I feel like you are misrepresenting appreciation for it.

Oh god lady your profile pic has scarred gintama for me and made me recall that episode where gintoki mistakingly hooked up with hasegawa. I thought most fujoshis were interested in gintoki x hijikata I guess you must be the unique one.

Well that's nice to hear. Nearly done playing through the series myself prior to the "third game". They're generally fun games with a nice amount of charm and appreciation for the worlds offered, as well as real story vision. The writing isn't perfect but I think it nails the emotional beats when they happen.
