Trust me I understand I was born in the 90s and even then I have a hard time watching series that old! But Akira for it's time is really good, definitely should finish it sometime!
Then you definitely will love Gankutsuou! The animation is a bit strange, but not as bad as Kaiba
Trust me I get it! Honestly it took me after like four episodes to get used to the animation for Kaiba because it's so out there and purposely sloppy looking where as I'm used to watching series with cleaner animation. But if you can see pass the animation I promise you won't regret it! And I know how that is I'm still trying to juggle watching anime this season and finishing series from the last two seasons. You can think it's bad and call it bad and insulting, but I think it's too early to review the anime. Who knows what might change with the story or how it is done. Well, I mean if you have read the light novel then I guess you could say it's entirety is bad, but besides that, I think it's best to wait before saying I think the first episode is bad so the whole show is. Obviously I can't tell you what to do or think, but I, my self, wouldn't review an anime I've only seen 1 ep of.
