Yo I don't know if you'll ever come online again but I wanted to tell you I listened to your advice and read Fata Morgana!
It's a fantastic visual novel, something I'll never ever forget, just like Saya no Uta. And just like that one, I'll be listening to the OST for years to come. So for that, I thank you :)

Until next time
ShokuGSX May 9, 2020 12:11 PM
Dude the chances that you've already played it is like 99.9% but just in case, PLAY WORLD OF HORROR!!
it's literally made for you. -someone like you.
I enjoyed the everloving fuck out of it. a fantastic experience. And it's still in early access, so much more content to come.
I've got the torrented files so if you want them just send me ur mail.

until the next time i see you on mal hahah

お早う

What school do you want to enter? And about Computer Science, I have a friend who's also studying something like that, but he's mainly interested in video games and specifically virtual reality development. What are your interests in the field of computer science?
Yeah, I purposely pressed the wrong button in Anki so that I at least still have a chance of seeing the cards again in my lifetime hahaha

I was indeed studying tourism. I tried my best and worked hard but at some point, motivation can only take you so far. I started thinking about my intrinsic interests and asked myself: Does tourism interest me? Like, at all? The answer was no so I decided I should just quit asap. Life is very simple. In essence, you just have to eat and sleep. That's literally all. That's what animals do, and they live their lives. We are also animals. A lot of stuff we add to our lives and see as necessary to fulfill our lives is just making our lives more and more, in essence, unnecessarily complicated. So, I formulated what interests me. And it's aesthetics. Now, this fancy for it can be applied in many ways. And from this intrinsic interest, you can work your way through the rest of your life's facets. This way, I reassured myself that I, indeed, want to live and work in Japan because of its aesthetic value for me, on many different levels. Then I also reassured myself that I do like working on bonsai and plants, that I do enjoy making music and drawings and like to read books and that I do want to keep spending time with beautiful girls, wait, what.
You get the point :).
Life is so simple, why make it hard? - title from a tedtalk by a rice farmer I watched years ago.
And oh yeah, I just want to get my bachelor's degree so that I can apply for the JET-programme. Working in architecture doesn't really interest me that much, but I can at least put effort into the course because it deals with aesthetics.
Did you ever play a sport or just liked to run or whatever? I remember I was so against exercising because I just wanted to play video games all the time when I was a kid. Now, I feel terrible when I don't pursue my healthy habits in my day to day life.
My dad is an amazing chess player, I kind of suck at it because I get so tired after just one or two matches, but it's definitely a very interesting game.

I think the main reason developers don't regularly produce mac ports is because of the culture. In Japan, practically no one has a mac as far as I can tell. So many systems are based around the Windows or Linux frameworks. And as for the IT culture in my area, many people are adamantly against using macs and continually make jokes about them. Overpriced, underperformance, shitty design, limitations, and of course the limited amount of programmes that run on it. My mac is the most stable pc I've ever had. Rarely crashes, and is super optimised for editing software, third party or not.
Luckily though, I got Evenicle to run on an old Packard Bell and I've been playing the everloving shit out of it, makes me remember the days when I'd get so stoked about a new game, like modern warfare 2 or WoW... Ahhh.... So, I'll definitely play the house in fata morgana sometime soon, but first, I've got to 100% Evenicle. I have to kill god in that game if that's even possible.
Yeah, NFS Heat is a great game, but I don't have high-end equipment to run it. Just a 2011 mac and an old-ass Packard Bell that's been sitting under a bunch of books for like 4 years.

Yesterday I bought tickets with a friend but it got canceled for some reason, will have to try again. Thanks for the recommendations, I'll remember it and take pictures to send you if I'm there :)

良い一日を!また会うまで.

As a matter of fact, I still do remember you. No problem with not replying for so long, I'll still be on this site after many years to come. How did your exams go? And most importantly, are you doing what you love to do?
As sporadical as I do, I'm studying Japanese again, mostly with Duolingo, but also with Anki again on my old iPhone 4, I still have a bunch of buried cards over there. Last time I checked, I could bury cards for over 36 years hahahaha. Oh yeah, I'm studying more intensely because I'm planning to go to Japan coming summer vacation with friends, also saving money from work!

My life has been interesting, to say the least. This year, I and my gf broke up and I've had a very hard time dealing with it and still do, though, it's getting better. I quit my study after 6 months and am doing architecture near my home town now. I'm training hard to become good at tennis (a newfound hobby of mine) and I'm still as fit as ever.

As far as video games go, my interest in them is dwindling, and a major factor is the fact that my mac can't run many games I'd like to play, like Evenicle or a bunch of visual novels. And funny that you brought up fata morgana because that's literally the game I downloaded a couple of weeks ago but can't get to run on my windows emulator. I need a windows laptop..
Ahh.. Kara no Shoujo.. I'm still salty about the lost save files and I sometimes still(!) consider redoing it all again, so that I can start working on the second installment. I've been feeling like playing Need for Speed Underground 2 these days because of its soundtrack, I still have a save file on Dolphin.

Tonight, I'm going to plan my vacation with the aforementioned friends, if you've got any great tips, let me know!!

I hope you are doing good as well.

I can understand why anime/manga invokes nostalgia for you since you've been practically watching it ever since 1999. I like the medium so much because of its expressiveness and the freedom it gives the artists, you can basically create anything within its boundaries and make it work, it's definitely a different beast from live action. As far as nostalgia goes for me regarding anime, I usually feel it as the sort that has no basis in my past. Maybe part existentialism or something hahaha. (Post) apocalyptic shows are what induce this kind of feeling most frequently for me, i.e. devilman crybaby, darling in the franxx.

Haha, I just checked your DA page, that anime guy drawing was pretty good :). It's funny you mention how much of a time sink drawing digitally can be because I've been looking at ways to cut the amount of time I spend on my line art and colouring by a significant amount. I think it has to do with experience and for what amount of time you have been drawing. Over time you start to notice strategies that save you time or you become more confident in your style which saves you a lot of undos haha. It's good to hear you still doodle, it's one of the most important things to do in my opinion. as long as time and energy is being invested, you will improve. And who knows, maybe one day your passion for drawing will be rekindled. As well as your activity on deviantart hahaha
but seriously, if you are considering uploading to a digital art platform again, please just head over to pixiv, you might learn some japanese while you're at it :-) and it's home to basically all the good anime/manga artists. deviantart is just a dead horse or something at this point, long past bleeding out hahaha

Well, if you ever feel like studying Japanese again using hello talk let me know ;).
Anyway, I'm doing extremely fine, as always. I've been working on my sleep schedule by waking up at the same time every day, my work-out schedule is good, food is good. All in all, the world has been treating me nicely and I treat the world the same way.

My study will start in like two weeks so I will be moving out of my parent's house, exciting times haha. I even bought myself a futon and a tatami mat to go with it all.

Looking forward to your response!

Have a good day
ShokuGSX May 20, 2018 8:23 AM
Helloo
Good to see you back, I thought you had quit MAL and anime in general completely.

Well, I'm doing very fine, as always. I recently finished exams and I'll most likely graduate. I changed my MAL name because my name on Pixiv is shokuGSX ( with the kanji for food ), though my signature is the kanji for eclipse so it's nisshoku I think, and would like to make this name my signature across anime-related platforms.

I am continuing my drawing hobby, though progress has slowed down tremendously due to playing games again and school work. Now that school is over I can start focusing on drawing and sports again. I mean I could show you some of my work but I'm unhappy with my finished projects so idk, if you'd like I can send or something, just know that I think they are bad haha.
I was actually considering becoming an army officer because they get a very good pay but I was rejected haha. So, back to tourism, it is.

Good to hear you're still working hard on your studies. Where did you do an internship? And oh, have you got any new game-related material? I'd love to play another game of yours.
Good luck with your Japanese man, it's super inspiring to hear you applied for that gamedev position. I wish you all the best.
And speaking of Japanese, what are your thoughts on duolingo? I've tried it for a bit, it's pretty good. And lastly, there's an app that lets you talk to people from different languages called hellotalk, maybe you could register for it and we could practice japanese together if you feel like it; would be pretty funny imo.

I'll try to reply a bit more swiftly next time haha, have a good one man.
ShokuGSX Sep 9, 2017 3:17 PM
jello I'm doing very fine actually.
Got an update on the whole studies ordeal. I think I've finally found myself an alright goal to work towards which gives me more reason to do the studies. The study I'll be going for is called tourism and it's at a pretty good university. I believe I am to become an advisor of sorts for companies that want to do something tourism related in a certain area so it's pretty broad. I'll be studying a lot of facets that have to do with tourism which I like. I like learning about a lot of different aspects when it comes to these kinds of things. If I get to the second year, I'll be going to Southeast Asia to work abroad and get hands on experience in the field which sounds very appealing. I believe I'll get to choose from a couple of countries including Indonesia and uh.. Thailand? I'm not sure anymore. Anyway, Southeast Asia. Yay
The goal I mentioned earlier is to eventually ameliorate the tourism branch in Georgia, my mother country. I feel it's possible that Georgia might eventually become a very popular tourist spot.

Also, I've changed my view on taking a loan. I'm simply investing in my future and I can take like 30 years or something to pay it back. Spread out over all those months it's really not that much.
Also also, I've started doing bonsai and I'm liking it very much so far.

So, about writing. I haven't written a word ever since my last comment. During the entire summer break, nothing. What I have done though, is drawing. I impulsively picked up digital drawing and started drawing anime grills. I spent most of my off time in the summer doing that until my pen broke ( the drawing pad and pen were both like 6 years old already ) so I ended up practising traditional drawings while exclusively drawing backgrounds. A good friend of mine was able to get a good pad in China for me so I'll continue practising digital drawing tomorrow.
Recently I finished Grisaia no Meikyuu, the sequel to Kajitsu. A pretty short novel, like 20 hours maybe, but very interesting nonetheless. I've still got to finish some of the heroines' after stories which are alright. They give you more H-scenes with the respective girls but other than that nothing really substantial. Unless it's your waifu's after story. Because in that case, it's all good. Yumiko for life.

I've been thinking about ploughing through Kara no Shoujo again to get to the point where my hard drive gave up on me. It's definitely going to take hours before I get there again, it'll hopefully be worth it though.

Are you feeling down still? I felt down some time ago even though I've been doing a lot of good things for a couple of months already. I had been developing numerous skills at the time yet I still didn't feel as satisfied as I should. Some time ago I was talking to a good friend about all the different things I had been pursuing and the fact that if I were to continue like that, I'd never master any of those things while I didn't want to focus on one thing entirely. The conclusion was that I should simply do all the things I like to do and that's that.

Anyway, How are your studies coming along? And your Japanese? I'm interested. Until next time mate.

conker7777 Aug 4, 2017 1:52 AM
Haha yeah, I'll definitely pass it next time. ^^

In terms of jobs for Engineers in Japan, there's a lot out there. I'm actually temporarily working as an English teacher right now (kind of like JET ALT), but I plan on applying to a lot of Engineering companies later this year. My contract as an English teacher ends next year, so my plan is to switch jobs once that contract ends. It seems like most of the good jobs for Engineers are in Tokyo. Of course N2 or N1 is a requirement, so I'll have to make sure that I pass next time for sure.

I think that learning to speak Japanese follows naturally from strong reading and listening comprehension. Building a strong foundation in vocabulary and grammar while you are still living in America is very important; don't worry about speaking just yet, because after you move to Japan your speaking ability will develop at a speed that is proportional to your ability in reading and listening comprehension. Most people don't learn Japanese like this, but trust me, this is the optimal way to learn Japanese. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. =)

Good job on keeping up with your reviews everyday! Consistency is key. ^^

Thanks for telling me about animelon! I think I'll use this website quite often from now on. lol

Monster and Steins;gate are actually not that difficult for me. I bought every volume of the Monster manga from Book Off (100 yen each) and have been reading those recently. Light novels are a little more challenging, but it really depends on the author's writing style. For example, Osamu Dazai's "No Longer Human" uses a lot of outdated words and kanji writings, so that makes for a more difficult read. Whenever I have a question, I just ask my girlfriend. (*^^*)

HelloTalk is fundamentally different than lang-8; it's basically a platform where you can easily find language exchange partners, send texts, and do phone/video calls. You can also make posts that a visible to the public. You can also search for language exchange partners based on geographical location, so you can easily find people in your neighborhood. This is especially useful for me, since there are a lot of users in Japan. ;P Check it out!
conker7777 Aug 2, 2017 2:11 AM
Hey, long time no see! ^^ Yep, I took the N1 in December. Well, let's just say that it was more fast paced than I had expected. I ended up getting sick with a fever right before the exam, so I was kind of in bad condition when I took it. As a result, I missed passing by 1 point. (-_-); Well, I guess I'll pass it for sure next time. Yep, I moved to Japan (Yamanashi Prefecture), and I'm sitting in my apartment right now making rice. lol
I also got a Japanese girlfriend, so I've been talking on the phone with her for several hours everyday for 4 months now. When I first arrived in Japan in April, I was only good at reading and listening comprehension, so speaking in Japanese was very difficult at first. I could hardly ask for directions back then lol. But now, thanks to my girlfriend talking to me everyday in Japanese, I can speak Japanese very well now. I've also been told that my pronunciation and speaking style is close to that of a native speaker, so I really think all of that studying and practice that I did before I moved to Japan really paid off. =)

I realize it must be difficult to keep up with your Japanese studies while you still have to worry about your Engineering studies. It was difficult for me as well. Here's my recommendation for you: Wake up at the same time everyday, say 6 a.m., and spend at least an hour every morning reviewing Japanese vocab everyday before your morning classes start. You won't be able to catch back up right away, but over time everything will start coming back to you and you'll be able to make progress again. Don't give up! If you keep working hard, you'll have a bright future ahead of you!

P.S.: My girlfriend is really really beautiful! I'm so glad I moved to Japan! xD
I met her on HelloTalk. Check it out. ^^ You might get a little bit more motivated after making some Japanese friends on this app.
Good luck!
ShokuGSX Apr 15, 2017 7:18 AM
Btw, I just reread Default_, the story I sent to you a long time ago.
I now realise how cringy and edgy my writing must've come off hahaha, but it's a good thing to face my past mistakes; helps me learn.
ShokuGSX Apr 15, 2017 2:43 AM
Yo! I apologise for not replying for so long.
During the last couple of months, I've watched quite a bit of anime. Some of my favourites were Boku no hero academia, One outs, Shokugeki no souma, Demi-chan, Konosuba s2, Log Horizon, Saiki kusuo and of course Shouwa genroku rakugo shinjuu s2. If you haven't seen Shouwa genroku already, I highly recommend it for its exquisite voice acting, beautiful art and music and just being an overall amazing experience once it grabs you. Even more so when it was airing.
I've also listened to quite a bit of music. Most new stuff I've listened to is from Scott Walker, maybe you've ever heard of him. He was a pop idol during the 70s and 80s after which he became an avant-garde musician. If you're ever interested in music that's absolutely out of this world, listen to ''Bish Bosch'' from 2012. Many describe it as the final instalment of a trilogy that's extremely dark and off-putting. I love listening to any of those three albums when I'm trying to sleep. Even though it's very nerve-racking once it starts grabbing you in, especially when you know the context of the songs, Scott still manages to soothe my heart when I'm in the dark.
Also, Aphex Twin, Eels, MF Doom, Death Grips and Kanye West. Lovely stuff.

I wish I would exactly know what I want to do after high-school. Some time ago, Leisure studies caught my eye but it lost its charm pretty fast for me. Taking a loan to go to university or whatever just feels like such a minefield, I'm sure many others do too. And when I get on a train of thought about not wanting to be in debt, not being sure if you really want to attend a certain university etc. etc. - I start thinking stuff like I don't want to do anything at all. It's annoying. Maaaan idk. Maybe I'll become a principal. It makes good monni

Yes, Red Cranes is the story with radiation and stuff. Progress has been slow lately because I don't feel like I have so much incentive to start working on it diligently. But that's just me. And sometimes I suck at things. And I know I can change and just start writing a story.
I could've yapped on about how lazy I can be at times but I don't feel the need to, nor would I want to; I don't want to reaffirm my laziness - it might make me even lazier, yknow.

I don't really know what else to say because much has lost me while I was writing this hahaha
Anyway, my grades are good, I've no problems in life, I feel good, so basically, I'm having a great time. Thanks for wishing me a great time.

Talk to you.

P.S. Great time to you too
ShokuGSX Dec 27, 2016 2:56 AM
I recently had this year's last tests and the results were absolutely fine. If I'd keep going like this, I'd pass this and my final year easily. Other than studying, I've been watching a bit of my favourite streamer, working on Red Cranes, bought Fallout new vegas and played a bit of vanilla WoW. I deleted wow after about a week because I quickly realized it was eating away a LOT of my time without that much redeeming value. The game started getting pretty bland due to grinding and the downtime suffered from i.e. walking to places or farming. Even though it was a very immersive and at times relaxing experience, I'd rather not get sucked into it too much. I want to watch anime also, you know.

I haven't picked up any new VNs so far. I've only continued to read fate/stay night and am at about 50% of heaven's feel. I've recently completed a bunch of shows, some of my favourites were jojo s4, drifters and gakuen handsome. Now I'm thinking about rewatching Kiseijuu because I just recommended it to a friend looking for more half human half monster stories like tokyo ghoul.

I've two days of harsh labour behind my back now and am probably going to spend my time watching a lot of anime, until I'll be leaving for a couple of days to see my family up north at least. I've been thinking about Red Cranes a lot recently and it has already changed quite a bit since I last told you all the details. Research and writing are going smoothly and my head is chock full of ideas.
I feel great.

Music I listened to while writing - http://6me.us/fym
Lovely boiler room set to space out to. Talk to you.

Quick report on the whole windows thingy, I got it to work using virtual box. it simply lets me run windows as an application. Great free-ware.
ShokuGSX Sep 22, 2016 8:21 AM
Yo!
Whenever people ask me what I'm planning on doing/studying I can never give them a concrete answer. Buuut I guess I do see myself as a teacher whenever I'm asked. It's probably due to the three generations of my family ( my dad, grandfather, great grandfather ) are/have been teachers. Some people have told me I'd be a good teacher if I'd decide to become one also. So the thought just kind of sticks with me. To summarize, I might become a teacher. We will neva know.

So I bought a MacBook air because I thought it'd come in handy, contrary to my now deceased former laptop. I've been trying to install windows 7 on it so that I can play my visual novels again. But it hasn't been working out like I've wanted it to. In case you can understand this and would be willing to aid me: I have made a disk partition so that windows 7 can run, I installed the windows 7 .iso on an external 120 GB SSD connected to my mac. Now, the problem comes when the windows installation wizard asks me to select which disk I want to install it to, which is the external one, but it doesn't work because the disk type is supposed to be HTFS (<- windows type) but is FAT(<-mac type). I've tried third-party software to change the disk type but keeps getting reverted back to the original FAT type during the booting up of windows 7 installation on the SSD.
That sure was a mouth full. Anyway, I've looked up countless forums but nothing seems to help simply because I'm stuck in this sort of loophole, if that makes any sense. To successfully install windows to my SSD, it has to be HTFS, but the booting up of the windows 7 installation formats it back to FAT ( because the formatting itself happens on the Mac OS X ).
I remember you do something with computers. Coding, wasn't it? Now, let's just hope a coder like you knows how to solve disk problems. Chances are thin, but I'm desperate enough to try. Haha.

I do not regret those moments. Time is a weird concept and I find myself thinking about it quite often. I could go into details but that'd be too much. For now, I can say that at this moment in my life, I enjoy time and everything that comes with it. So respectively, I'd like to revoke my earlier statement saying 'much time was lost'.

I definitely enjoyed my visit. It wasn't anything too special, but I was able to enjoy myself. Not implying I can't enjoy myself without being on vacation. I am always enjoying myself, regardless of where I am. That didn't make much sense. Why did I even say that? I guess we will neva know.
Did you enjoy summer anime season? What were your favorite shows? Mine were re:zero and berserk, not implying they were REALLY good, but they've been able to keep me coming back every week. Other than that, I've finished a couple of shows and have been working on katekyo hitman reborn. 203 episodes here I come.

Talk to you.

conker7777 Aug 20, 2016 8:55 PM
No prob!

I'm glad it's working out for you. =) I haven't watched Ao Haru Ride, but yeah Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun would be a nice one to watch. I will warn you, though, I watched Noragami raw and there was an ungodly amount of Buddhist terms in there (no pun intended). Be prepared to encounter a lot of weird sayings and made-up words too. Fortunately the subtitle files on kitsunekko are timed perfectly so that you only have to shift the subtitles back once after the opening, and that makes looking up the vocab a lot easier.

Yep, that's right. I deal mostly with hardware oriented programming languages such as VHDL and Verilog in order to do the digital design of CPU, GPU, ALU, Cache, etc. Regardless, there's a lot of coding involved. =) Naturally I have also delved into C++, C#, C, and Java for software applications, and also into Matlab, Mathematica, etc. for other heavy duty simulation purposes. It's harder and more frustrating than you can imagine, but it's also a lot of fun. =P And Japanese is a lot of fun too!
It’s time to ditch the text file.
