10 -Masterpiece-: A title where almost every aspect is at least enjoyable and most of them perfect. It doesn't waste a single episode and manages to remain captivating during its entire run. For a show to get a 10/10 even if an element were to be below expectations, for example lack of a great plot/story, then it would have to contain one element that puts it above all others; for example: if the show displays the greatest romance ever seen or tragedy that brings forth even tears, only then will it qualify. Those series usually have the perfect array of elements with most of its aspects (technical or otherwise) just as top notch, but mostly it is the masterful presentation of everything that makes those series so great.
9 -Outstanding-: These are shows that could have been 10/10 but were lacking in some way or another. It could be something as simple as a few bad episodes which lowered the series' overall enjoyment or a bad character. They are nonetheless close to masterpiece level but only fell short a little.
8 -Good-: These are not just some one time watch. They possess qualities that are of almost exemplary level but unfortunately those qualities were overshadowed with a lot of more regular elements/presentation that while enjoyable wasn't in the same league. These series are enjoyable and more than worth the time to watch them. To me, the ranking "8" gets described as "Good" rather than it being ranking 7 (Like MAL does) because I don't think the term good is something that should be thrown around too easily. For something to be called good, I think certain standards should apply as to quality and that is why the ranking "8" is much more deserving of this designation.
7 -Decent-: No exceptional qualities jump out of the show, it is filled with regular elements but they are presented well enough to provide enjoyment and keep me interested in watching to the end. They are a good one time watch and while I may re-watch them it will usually be some time before I do so. Basically, it provides elements of some interests that are well presented but do not exemplify themselves. These series carry the designation "Decent", however, that is not in any way degrading towards said series. If a series is decent then it means it was enjoyable and did do a lot of things right, but had enough drawbacks in the presentation and elements to be held back from being called a "Good" series. This ratting is unique (Alongside rating “6”) for containing both works that I enjoyed and ones that failed.
6 -Average-: The titles provide average elements which, while of little interest, are presented well enough to make the show entertaining to some extent. Titles which I did enjoy will be part of this category though they will unfortunately be burdened by uninteresting aspects that renders their overall enjoyment below that of a decent show even if they do possess redeeming qualities. They are only one level above being bad, so while there is still quality to be found in those titles, it will be few and they are certainly not going to be series to brag about. This ratting is unique (Alongside rating “7”) for containing both works that I enjoyed and ones that failed.
5 -Bad-: These contain average elements and aspects which are presented in a mediocre way thus rendering the small appeal they did possess below their potential. They will provide me with slight enjoyment and will have some perks along the way (May that be a good character or a good episode) but will ultimately prove a chore to complete and not worth a re-watch aside from the occasional testing one might do to see if the show improved later on after some time has passed.
4 -Crappy-: They possess no good aspects; they are filled with mediocre elements and fail to present them in an even slightly interesting manner. To complete them one must struggle and they are definitely a no go for a re-watch.
3 -Dreadful-: The elements of the title are bad enough to make it painful to watch it. The title will attempt to provide interesting aspects but will ultimately fall on clichés and failures while tripping on bad writing.
2 -Horrible-: The title will forever stand as a symbol of mediocrity. It is the lowest rank possible for any show that I have completed to its conclusion. The only reason I will have finished the title will be my sheer determination to see each series I start to the end.
1 -Unwatchable-: In the rare occurrence that I prove unable to complete a show because it is so bad I cannot even bear to complete it. This rank will never be attributed to series I have completed because since I will have watched them to their end they will not be unwatchable.
Yes that's why I almost never watch recap movies. Only exception is when a new season of an anime is coming out after a long time and I forgot a lot about it but don't want to rewatch the whole previous season(s). But that happens rarely...
Oh I didn't thought about that option but as a prequel it would indeed work nice... Would be pretty amusing to watch the student council in their everyday life. And it would spot a new light on Lelouch, seeing how he behaved before he got the Geass. That would probably give him even more depth.
Yeah seeing how Suzaku handles the Zero thing would be very interesting too, although I think watching Zero and knowing it's not Lelouch could feel a bit odd for me at first (but of course I would get used to it).
I totally agree with you there. They shouldn't try to make a copy of the first 2 seasons just with an other main character, that would end up being plain. If they make a 3rd season without Lelouch they should really try something different (like one of the things you mentioned in your article).
They skipped entire arcs?! Wow that's extreme... I guess I'll wait until the first episode of the 3rd season is out and check if it's really a different continuity (unless they confirm it earlier ofc). If it's not then I'll probably avoid the movies.
A very interesting article! You have a bunch of really inspiring ideas there. I think all of them would work very well although I honestly can't imagine a slice of life show for Code Geass. Maybe an OVA that shows how life is going on after the end of season 2 but how should they fill an entire season with that?
Anyway what would be your favorite thing they should do in a 3rd season? As for me I would love to get an answer for the questions about Nunally's and Suzaku's powers and I would like to see Cornelia as a villain again...
