I agree—Pierre was the sole reason for Carti’s success. And, every time I hear carti rapping in real life without being modified in the studio, that thought we both share (Pierre being the reason for Carti’s blow up) gets proven correct.

And, the Pierre album simply doesn’t do anything different. It’s just mumble crooning over nice beats that don’t do anything I haven’t heard. Maybe I’ve listened to rap for too long, but it’s generic, and Pierre’s vocals are so average that I feel like I’m lost in monotony hearing his solo work. Also, the nav reference is a description of the style that the specific song you posted: Pierre sounds soft spoken with simple lyrics over nice beats that compliment soft auto tune. It’s not exactly like nav (and when I say old nav, I don’t mean anything after signing with OVO), but it feels just like it, to the point where I was reminded of navs original SoundCloud stuff when listening to that song.

This is all my own opinion though, so if you don’t agree that’s fine. The only reason I was mildly salted was due to you saying I don’t listen to rap, which is verifiably false in many level. But, I guess to sum this up: I like artists that are uniquely in their own sound, and most rappers now don’t have a sound that’s truly theirs. Pierre’s production on Carti’s work stands out and is legendary in its own right, but with his vocals on top it’s mid at the very best, and sounds generic.

Also, keef changed everything. People like to hate him, but he started it all, along with thugger and Gucci mane who promote the high quality tape revolution.

No offense, but I can’t believe you said I don’t listen to rap when I told you that it was my main genre for almost the entire decade. Also, lyrics don’t matter to me either—that’s not what I was talking about at all. My primary point is that mainstream rap: trippie, Pierre, carti, etc do not sound that much different, and constantly bite off each other and don’t do anything new. They’ve all used the same flow and same types of beats since they came out, so idk how you can listen to the exact same thing for 3-4 years straight. For instance, the song that started this conversation sounds like a rip off of nav’s early SoundCloud stuff.

Anyways, if you want examples of what I consider to be original, here you go:

Chief keef back from the dead 2 or finally rich

Young thug slime season tapes or barter 6

Rich Homie Quan still goin in

Lil Uzis original tapes and SoundCloud posts

Playboi Cartis first release

Navs first SoundCloud stuff

Deko

Lil darkie

Post Malone when he dropped his first singles

Wale’s old tapes

What I consider to be unoriginal:

Pierre’s solo stuff

Uzi’s new stuff

Trippies new stuff

Carti’s red

Young thugs new stuff

Everything by Gunna

Young Thug used to make genre defining stuff but now he’s dropping mid tracks, and that’s ok because he’s a legend, but I’m not going sit here and pretend that he’s attempting to make unique music anymore. And look at carti’s newest project: shit was mid, whereas die lit was genre defining.

Also, before I end this, Pierre doesn’t have a voice for rapping and should just give up. He’s not Kanye.
