Thanks. I try my best. It probably wasn't as hilarious as watching Manyuu though. I almost fell out of my chair when they started talking about "tit hunts" and the "prize tits". :D

I've seen everything you just mentioned :)

I kind of agree with you on Bakemonogatari as it just seemed to fizzle out. On the other hand Katanagatari made it in to my top ten for 2010, and I'm pretty hard to please.

Madoka's not bad at all. I like that it's trying to move away from the mahou shoujo stereotype, but the show's not over yet, and there's still room enough to mess things up.

With regards to the darker type of magical girl anime, two suggestions for you. Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha (all three series), and Uta Kata. Nanoha's first series is a darker take on the magical girl theme, but things get much, much better in A's, and StrikerS is probably my favourite mahou shoujo anime to date. As for Uta Kata, it's more about the price to pay for all that power, and I wouldn't be surprised if Madoka took some inspiration from it.

Mind Game is on my list of things to watch, and I will get around to it one of these days. You may want to watch Paprika if you like surrealist anime, and Millenium Actress is very good as well.

Panty & Stocking? I've seen it, but it's one of the shows that doesn't seem to want to join my list, and to be frank, I'm happy to keep it that way. It's nothing more than over the top gutter humour mixed with Powerpuff graphics, and all to give the illusion of being edgy, cool, different, etc.

The truth is that it's none of those things as it's nothing more than a Gainax marketing drive.

I mean seriously, their underwear turns into weapons? That could mean that neither of the "heroines" wash their bits, or it could mean that they don't wash their lingerie. Given the whole "fuck 1000 men" thing, it could mean both.

While I may not have enjoyed FLCL or Dead Leaves as much as others, I still rate them much, much higher than Panty & Stocking. In fact, I was tempted to upgrade both those titles on the basis that they weren't Panty & Stocking.

lol, well when I look at it, Needless does have some similarities. I think that the makers of Needless were trying to copy TTGL but I guess they didn't realise that hot-bloodedness and that art style weren't the only thing that made TTGL so great.

Needless to say, Needless copies and fails. But I still don't think it's all that bad. I've been keeping up with it this season just beause people hate it so much.

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei is great. Funny as hell. Although I never did get around to finishing it because back when I watched it something came up to interrupt me and I never got back to it.

I've watched Baccano but unfortunately...the same thing happened as SZS so I never got to finish it. But from what I remember, their storytelling method of going back and forth between (like 3 or 4?) different time frames kinda annoyed me.

No...not Busou Renkin. It just isn't the same.

Taiga in Toradora didn't have more depth than Shana. They were pretty much the same. Except Toradora was a slice of life so I'm leaning more towards SnS.

Well you're doing pretty well with trashing my favourite shows. lol. But I don't really mind so much as long as you don't trash TTGL. That would be an unforgivable sin and I would find you, and burn you on a stake if you did.

Also, lol, I noticed you gave Needless a 1. xD
Why do people hate that show so much...it's not THAT bad.
5layer Aug 8, 2009 8:45 PM
Well, I am yet to find an anime that is quite like SnS. So obviously anime aren't all that similar. The only anime that's ever gotten close to SnS in style was Toaru Majutsu no Index. But unfortunately that anime's plot development, pacing and character personalities are pathetic. Fate Stay Night may have gotten close, but it had a cold, empty and lifeless feel to it which brought it down. (For example, there were no people in it apart from the main characters. NONE. A hollow world.)

Zero no Tsukaima was good for a few laughs. Although Louise was a terrible character which bugged me a lot. Unlike Shana, Louise had no character development at all. She was the same arrogant bitch throughout all the 3 seasons of ZnT.

I won't even mention Toradora because that is a copletely different anime genre all together and just because they share voice actors doesn't mean they should be compared. Toradora wasn't particularly great either. Just a slice of life comedy with tsundere thrown in.

If you want, I'll write you a mini review of why Shakugan no Shana deserves a 10/10 and why it is a masterpiece. Although you would probably just end up disagreeing with most of it anyway.
5layer Aug 8, 2009 5:51 PM
Forget the first thing I said before. I just looked back on the anime and I'm still thinking that Shakugan no Shana is simply one of the most awesome things ever. You probably missed what was great about the anime since that "awesome" part is aimed at a smaller niche of audiences which I happen to be a part of. You're one of those people who looked at it from a shounen perspective with shounen expectations.
5layer Aug 8, 2009 2:58 AM
Well I know what you mean. Shakugan no Shana wouldn't be anywhere near as awesome if I watch it now as it was back in the days I watched it. But all my top anime is anime that left the biggest impression on me, which Shakugan no Shana certainly did.

What I meant by creativity and imagination were things like the character designs for example. The charactes in SnS all looked very unique and had really interesting imaginative features to them, as do the characters in Pandora Hearts. Although Pandora Hearts definitely has a better setting in my opinion. Both the anime had that cog/gear, chains, dolls thing going which I think is just about the most awesome thing ever.

I found it on YouTube. Just search Birthday Boy and you should find it almost immediately. And yes, no worries, there are subs for it :D

Thanks for reading my review :3

I will definitely check out the show you suggested, especially since its by the same guy. : )

PS: I noticed you have Simouns on your to-watch list, make sure you do watch it cuz its a good one.

Dude, I read it in Chinese, I dunno about the english sites. I mean, if you can read in Chinese I'd gladly give you the site :P

It's not a matter of "like"--I totally love Pokemon.

Mostly a matter of me loving it as a kid. Growing up, I was pretty much obsessed with Pokemon. The anime, the games, the cards, the crappy merchandise. It was pretty much no different than being a Haruhiist (which I am not). I never outgrew the series and it's one of the very few anime I can watch over and over again without getting sick and tired of it.

Besides, MAL asked us to list our favourites, NOT the best anime :P
tehnominator Nov 11, 2008 3:26 PM
Oh yes, my fave anime have oft had people wonder what sort of kid I am. I am childish at heart, but I am a nineteen year old, for goodness' sake.

And I loved, loved, loved DMC. It was so funny! I am currently trying to get all my friends to watch it.

Oh, I am pretty open-minded. I know that the whole rape thing might offend other women, but it wasn't meant seriously, and if anyone paid attention, the anime didn't advocate rape--it simply pointed out that it's a big theme in death metal music. People get offended easily, but I belong so sooo many minorities in society that I've learnt that being sensitive to political correctness if pointless. Otherwise I'd have been really uptight :O
It’s time to ditch the text file.
