Oh that's good you had it taken care of. Im not sure if a dermatologist is able to do surgery on that level. You said you saw your insides? As far as I am aware dermatologists mainly just do minor surgery on the surface layers of skin.
I've heard when you dont have insurance you can actually hagle your price down. Those prices are meant for insurers and they know many people cant pay them so they accept smaller amounts and settle on that. That's maybe why they dont know. Medicaid I think could cover it maybe since you didn't get the bill yet. I would try and give the hospital your medicaid info so the billing can go straight to your insurance if they havent sent anything for processing yet. Though i guess you can send it after but that may make it more a hassle on your end idk. If it doesnt go through you can call medicaid and ask them about it. Actually give medicaid a call first and ask them if it would be easier to give the info to the hospital or to send it the medicaid later after you get it. I ran into a real hassle with billing one time before had to call both my doctors office and medicaid but it eventually got paid. Was some labwork. With medicaid you just have to pay your copay for the year which will be about $300 iirc.
