It's a long story actually. I was recommended the anime in Highschool and I nearly thirty episodes in but I just couldn't get behind Gons's motivation to go see (and be a hunter like) a Dad he's never met or seen. It felt flat and took the wind out of everything that was happening.
Four years later the manga became free to read on the Shonen Jump app, so I decided to give it a go and see if anything was different. Lest to say, when I was introduced to Kite in Chapter 1 suddenly everything made sense. Gon's motivation suddenly had depth and I gladly wanted to follow him on his journey.
Lest to say manga is (for me at least) a way more efficient means of digesting story and I found myself finally loving the series.
And as for the anime, I definitely plan to finish it someday now that I know what the story holds.
That's pretty much the jist of it. ╮(. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)╭
