I can definitely see that! I feel so bad having never heard of this show before lol. It's definitely taken my top spot for my favourite TV show of all time by a landslide and I haven't even completed the damn show lol

Berserk manga is technically better, but the 1997 version of the anime is still worth watching in my opinion. The manga goes much further than the anime, so you will likely want to go through it if you're really into it. That said, if you're only going to read/watch one of the two, manga is probably the answer for you.

From a story/character perspective, there's not really any androids that I did not like in Nier Automata. However, I didn't find 9S really interesting to play mechanically compared to the other two. The fact they all have different personalities further reinforced the themes and ideas of the game. If you mean due to what happened in the game, no I do not dislike A2 for what she did to 2B lol However, I never really considered any of the characters as « waifu ». I really just look at stories from the perspective of an outsider. My preference for 2B is because she was carrying some of the best human traits when compared to A2. I think the personality contrast between both of them was made on purpose.

Hell yeah! I know SHAFT has essentially given NisioisiN a blank check, they will continue to animate so long as he continues to write.
Another volume of the LN came out recently, so it's only a matter of time.

I'm trying to read the LN, need to brush up on my kanji. It's going very slow.

Hey there, been doing good. Yeah just wanted to watch classic ones and deep plots. Youjo Senki is great and don’t forgot the movie of it and the spin-off “Isekai Quartet”.

It's a bit sad to say, but the vast majority of shows that delve into these psychological/philosophical themes are often very slow paced. I also find myself having a hard going through them despite liking the concepts. Which is weird, because I can read slow-paced books and not be bothered as much with those issues. Some of these shows I have watched a long time ago mind you, so I can't say how much I would be turned off by the pacing nowadays. Most new shows have better direction in general as long as they aren't clogged with flashbacks, but there isn't as much depth in most of them as there used to be.

I would recommend something like Monster instead if you want something that's more accessible (Very different themes). The « cleverness » of Utena could be compared to « intellectual masturbation » by many lol.

That's why I warned you about it not being that great outside of its « imagery », « psychological » and « philosophical » themes. Based on your watch list, I was under the impression you wouldn't be as interested as you made it out to be. Very slow buildup with repetitive scenes and nothing will be exposed to you like the average anime. The theme of the show is more interesting than the show itself in my opinion, but it does offer some good fictional subjects for analysis purpose. You're not supposed to « like » the characters other than Utena and it's pretty much the point of the show lol. Personally, if you're already struggling going on at episode 7, I would drop it. Alot of people prefer to read/watch non-fiction to these types of shows when it comes to those themes.

I think I accidentally put the wrong show in my list. I'm gonna fix that right now. This account is still in its infancy and I haven't bothered much with my list yet lol

That said, it's a problem with « philosophical » shows, when you've already asked yourself the questions once, if you see the same thing again, it won't have the same « impact » it used to. I don't know if I would make this type of connection with ghouls on my own however as it's a completely alien entity to me and I tend to have some sort of suspension of disbelief when things are too unrealistic. Robots and AI are concepts that can exist in the real world so I am more likely to make a connection and directly question the morality of it. As a technology enthusiast, I feel this also resonates with me more.

WEP is surely a breath of fresh air in anime industry! I still think this show is great for many things like animations, soundtracks and storytelling and I'm also loving all the characters and their personalities. I hope its conclusion will have the same quality as the rest of the show (or maybe even higher!)
