My initial thoughts about anime before watching Evangelion: After Eva: But finally I realized that "Anime is great. It's just the fans that suck." Hello and welcome to my profile! I’ve been an anime watcher for quite a long time, starting with cable TV as a child back in the late ’90s and being a regular here since 2012. As a diehard shounen fan, I try to keep an open mind about others’ tastes in anime (even though the medium is overflowing with overhyped mediocrity and low-quality junk these days). My goal is simply to find enjoyment in everything I watch, whether through an interesting story, well-rounded characters, believable drama, or sheer comedic value. I’m a recurring participant in the yearly anime-watching and manga-reading challenges. My ultimate ambition is to complete 10,000 series before I kick the bucket. In the meanwhile, together with my long-time dear friend Asztal, we’ve also been tackling the site’s ever-changing list of the top 100 worst anime. ⌞Anime Milestones⌝ 1st & 100th anime: It was so long, looong ago that I really can't remember neither :( I think my first completed anime might have been either 80 Days Around the World With Willy Fog, or Nils no Fushigi na Tabi, but back then I didn't even know what the hell an anime was. My 100th came when hungarian A+/Animax was still a thing, but that was well before using MAL so I can't trace it back. 200th (2012-10-26): I totally forgot to pay attention for this one, so I messed up and, unfortunately watched a short movie, music video, special or OVA ((most probably Taimanin Asagi Special)) as my 200th... What a shame. 300th: (2013-01-06) Higashi no Eden This anime encouraged me to one day try breaking into the White House butt naked and with a gun. Maybe not the best influence, but gotta swing those Johnnies! 400th: (2013-09-30) Shingeki no Kyojin After watching it the first season has been one of my favourites for quite a long time. SnK definitely has an outstanding story and the mysteries behind it make every season more intriguing than the previous. And we finally reached the peak with S3 part 2! :') 500th: (2014-10-08) Durarara!! Interesting storyline, amazing characters. Maybe one of the most unique anime I've seen by that time. Should watch the sequels already. 600th: (2015-06-13) One Piece: Episode of Merry - Mou Hitori no Nakama no Monogatari Probably the best OP recap out there, well focused on the touching parts of Merry's journey, enhanced with more modern and detailed visuals. I still cri evrytiem :'( 666th: (2015-11-07) Tenkuu Danzai Skelter+Heaven This is one hell of an anime, deserves #666 on my list, but making it the worst anime of MAL is kind of "overrating". I think Tsui no sora for eg. was a much better example of a complete trainwreck but we have to feed the meme aye. Anyways, thanks for enduring this one with me Naru-chan and Asztal! It was an experience, least to say haha. 700th: (2016-01-27) Junketsu no Maria Maria indeed surprised me! Maybe this is the best and bravest criticism of Christianity and religious bigotry I've seen in anime so far, strange it didn't make more of an outrage back then. This, and the just as surprising historical accuracy made it really enjoyable for me - although they could have spared the Disney-like sugary ending. Maria definitely deserves more attention! 750th: (2016-04-03) Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu Friedrich Nietzsche was wrong about god... unfortunately. Haruhi was more enjoyable than I expected, but I won't join your shitty religion you fanboys! Now, here I come endlesseightendlesseightendlesseightendlesseight KYON-KUN F*CKING DENWA!!! please just end my suffering already... o∑(O_O)🔫o (Ah, took me a few years to complete the franchise after this point.) 800th: (2016-05-20) Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo A quite disappointing movie honestly, even more because I really started to like Hosoda's works, but this one was very cheaply made, messy and the main girl's character simply irritated me. I still can't understand why is this remembered as a classic, even if the original novel might deserve its fame. 900th: (2016-09-04) Fate/Zero 2nd Season An enjoyable and thought-provoking battle royale-esque anime. The second season is a little bit better than the first, and the whole /Zero is MUCH-MUCH-MUCH better than that abomination known as og Fate/stay night! In this, people really die when they are killed, what a twist! 1000th!! (2017-01-21): Kaze no Tani no Nausicaä Ah, the beginnings of Studio Ghibli!* Nausicaä is definitely a nice movie, representing the mentality of Miyazaki and co. and their following oeuvre. I'm totally satisfied having it as my 1000th completed anime. *(Yes, I know this one is technically not a Ghibli movie.) 1100th (2017-04-27): JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken (TV) "Furueru hodo kokoro moetsukiru hodo atsuku sono te kara hanate kodou karada minagiru yuuki de mayou naki kakugo ni 'Kassai' wo! ~Sono chi no sadame~ Jooooojo!" Oh, yes! I couldn't imagine 2 years ago that I will ever watch and - even more - love this f*cking testosterone storm. But thanks to Asztal-kun and Sakamoto (don't ask) I was converted, and now I can stand proud as a beginner JJBA fan. 1200th: (2018-08-05) Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan 2 I've seen the first "season" of Dokuro-chan in the past with my dear sister Silica2001 (´ε` )♡ . Even though I wouldn't say we enjoyed it a lot, I thought this would be the perfect series to commemorate my 1200th finished anime, because it's one of the first that we've watched together when she was a newby - I'm such a great influence. 1300th: (2019-03-29) Yakusoku no Neverland The anime adaptation of Neverland has received high expectations ever since it was announced, thanks to the manga original's place in Shounen Jumps current lineup. Thankfully it really turned out as one of the best anime in 2019, and I also found it an intriguing and thought provoking mistery story. 1400th: (2019-11-08) Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! Even though KonoSuba was an instant success when it aired, I was a bit sceptical of the entertainment factor of it's absurd comedy, even more so because of Studio Deen's hit or miss attitude to their works. So I've kept it on my plan to watch list for quite some time, but now I feel like I chose just the right time to be able to truly appriciate this comedic piece of art. If you are getting tired of the isekai overdose of the last few seasons like I do, it's highly recommended to watch this and have some laugh on the on point parodies of the stupid cliches of the genre. 1500th: (2020-12-11) Ping Pong the Animation So I wanted the 1500th to be something that counts, and man, I wasn't disappointed! I usually don't like sport anime that much, but Ping Pong's story, especially it's emotional aspects really touched a chord with me. It reminded me of being an aspiring sportsman, with all it's joy, sorrow and burdens. And all those feels combined with Masaaki Yuasa's fascinating artstyle and a great ost 👌👌 1600th: (2022-04-09) Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru A wholesome and genuinely enjoyable romcom, even for those who aren't typically fans of the genre. 1700th: (2023-07-08) Bleach: Sennen Kessen-hen I never expected Bleach to make a comeback, let alone with such a perfect adaptation that even enhances the rushed and lackluster final arc of the manga. In the end, they truly did it justice. 1800th: (2024-10-31) Kizumonogatari III: Reiketsu-hen To be honest, it was a little underwhelming. I had higher expectations for this one, considering it’s one of the highest-rated entries in the Monogatari franchise. ⌞Manga Milestones⌝ 1st completed: The Legend of a Vampire Hunter by Hirano Kouta. I've read some longer manga before, my first one ever to read was Naruto, but this one shot was the first that I have finished. 100th: (2014-04-21) We had a competition with my girlfriend for this one. I ultimately lost, but at least I have finished Deadman Wonderland, wich is one of my favourite manga, as 100th. :) 200th: (2018-10-13) JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken Part 1: Phantom Blood Yet another JoJo milestone. I think I've got a bit addicted ahahaha! Anyways, the first JoJo is a good mixture of Hokuto no Ken's masculinity and the goofiness of the Donald Duck magazine. Oh those '80s. 300th: (2020-01-17) Henshin So... I think I first found Henshin about 5 years ago, when only about 6 chapters were published yet. I rushed through those chapters, just checking if it's actually worth reading like I usually do, but when the final chapter came out some time later, something unexpected happened to me. Before finding this gem (or reather, "bloody diamond") I woudn't have believed a f*cking hentai can make you emotional. I had to realize how wrong I was, and after that I decided to keep this manga for a special occasion... And now that I could finally make myself to read the whole thing, while I still can't find the right words, I couldn't be more proud to have it as my 300th. To sum it up, Henshin is much more than your average hentai focused on rape and girls going "funny in the head" thanks to that, sprinkled with some good old ahegao (you know, just the basic ShindoL stuff), by presenting a truly tragic story in a style reminiscent of those depressing naturalistic novels from the late 19th century. In this regard, I think Henshin is an excellent "decline story", not afraid to show all the grusome details of the fall of an average but secluded highschool girl to the depths of decadence and moral depravity, simply by craving to become a more popular and loved person. Unfortunately, through multiple missteps she ends up failing all the time, gets used and abandoned by various people, and constantly "slides down the slope", finally reaching the point of no return... But the finale is the point when Henshin truly shines, as it gives a last glimpse of hope, just to instantly pull us back to the sad reality of its world... Yeah, who would have expected that a ShindoL manga is capable of these levels of depth. 400th: (2021-08-05) Kengan Ashura As someone who has practiced a bit of martial arts before, I found it fascinating how detailed the manga’s presentation and explanation were for every form and technique from the different schools. The characters were sympathetic, the art style was great—what else is there to say? 500th: (2024-12-12) Sayonara Eri I’ve been interested in Fujimoto Tatsuki’s works ever since I flipped through the first volume of Fire Punch a few years ago—even before Chainsaw Man began. I’m glad I chose this one for my 500th, even though it wasn’t my original plan (I just needed something quick to finish the yearly challenge). ⌞Favourite anime/manga quotes⌝ "Don't forget. Believe in yourself. Not in the you who believes in me. Not the me who believes in you. Believe in the you who believes in yourself." - Kamina (TTGL) "Then stand up right away! And don't act like you're about to die! It's not like you! Even if there are billows of smoke, we can still see the sky. We can still see the ocean! It ain't like it's hell here! So don't act like you're about to die!" - Usopp (OP) "The perfect being, huh? There is no such thing as perfect in this world. That may sound cliché, but it’s the truth. The average person admires perfection and seeks to obtain it. But, what’s the point of achieving perfection? There is none. Nothing. Not a single thing. I loathe perfection! If something is perfect, then there is nothing left. There is no room for imagination. No place left for a person to gain additional knowledge or abilities. Do you know what that means? For scientists such as ourselves, perfection only brings despair. It is our job to create things more wonderful than anything before them, but never to obtain perfection. A scientist must be a person who finds ecstasy while suffering from that antimony. In short, the moment that foolishness left your mouth and reached my ears, you had already lost. Of course, that’s assuming you are a scientist." - Kurotsuchi Mayuri (Bleach) -Esidisi: Next, you're going to say "I'm gonna wipe that grin right off your face!" -JoJo: I'm gonna wipe that grin right off your face! *Gasp* Wait, that's supposed to be my trick! - JoJo and Esidisi's hilarious conversation from JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken (TV) "When you squint at the sun, you can see its cosmic cock. When I shake my head, the sun's cock shakes, and that's why the wind howls down from the void." - Suehiro Maruo, 1982 (Ultra Gash Inferno ch. 4: Shit Soup) "Those who identify as 'otaku', they sicken me deeply." - Totally not fake quote by Miyazaki Hayao about the cancer of this medium. "People die if they are killed." - Emiya "Fuck-the-laws-of-nature-and-common-sense" Shirou (Fate/Stay Night) "How disgusting." - Asuka's opinion about "The End of Evangelion" movie. "Girl who watches something in glass. Young person who looks into in from the outside to house. Bear that held fishbowl. The foot is a gotten huge monument. Whether it is "I" ‥ seeing opponent that reflects in mirror" - Shinkai Taro's perfect description of Embah. 👌 We've had a little contest with my then-girlfriend-now-wife, here's the result And a little gift from my beloved ^^ The result of the second contest against Naru-chan: |
