Yeah, LoGH indeed deserves all the praise it gets.

I did make a profile on Hummingbird, but I rarely go there. The forums in HB are almost dead lol. Anyways most of my friends are on MAL, so I won't regularly visit HB for the time being.

It definitely does gets better by leaps and bounds.
I'm sure you've noticed that so far Monster has focused on growing the characters, while keeping the plot progression in the side. Well very soon the plot kicks in full ahead. So you should be enjoying it more from now on.

I could write a long list of reasons of why I liked HnC, but I don't think it would help your cause. The only thing I can say is it a slow slice of life drama (a genre I don't think you're too particularly fond of. Apologies if 'm wrong about that.) and so you need to be sure you are going into the right mindset I guess >_>

Tricky. Real tough to say. There can be so many reasons as to why a show can be special for you. But if I really had to pick one, I would say the characters, their chemistry, the realism with which they are portrayed. I mean it sounds cheesy, but the characters were such to me that "I could laugh when they were happy, and felt down when they were sad" or something like that lol.

But seriously, I'm not trying to hype you up or anything, but HnC has pretty much the best cast in anime, and that includes other heavyweights like Eva, Utena, Monster, LoGH etc.etc.

I can see what you mean, there were times I felt the same way when watching it. If you ask me, the presentation is what made the show good. Just the eerie atmosphere combined with experimental visuals/sound made the series so chilling.
