My Review Format:
1. Concept
The settings of the show itself, what kind of world and set of rules the show are trying to tell us, how much does it makes sense, and how good they are done. Viable, conceivable, and yet at the same time unique concepts are a plus. This point will not be included on realistic animes (Hanasaku Iroha, ef, Toradora).
2. Plot
The overall story of the show. This include the common sense taking place. Ass-pull plots, inconsistent plots and those that doesn't make sense will be scored poorly. This however, doesn't apply for the comedic scenes of the show (given if the comedy actually works). The storytelling and the pacing of the show will be included here.
3. Art
One of my biggest preference on picking out animes. The only reason that I got back from watching animes since Gundam Wing is the improvements of the art quality. Art style is very important for any anime, consistent and unique art styles are appreciated. Semi-CG arts (hand-drawn characters with CG environments or vice-versa) are scored based on how well it blends on the scene. This include on how much details the art have to show us and how consistent the quality is. Art quality of old animes will be judged based on other shows that airs on the same year and the level of technology back then.
4. Characters
The most important aspect on creating fanboys for the show. Likeable characters are quite easy to make but difficult to maintain. I personally prefer realistic characters that actually have common sense, do mistakes, and act like a normal person would (Unless they had certain circumstances that are mentioned in the show) instead of those harem kings that are too stupid to know what's going on. Character design is a very big deal to grab viewers. The normal high school boy characters in their uniform that doesn't have any kind of personality worth mentioning is the best example of a lazy character designer.
5. Animation
The most effort on making an anime. Though, I don't really care much for animation on most scenes except for action scenes as long as they convey the story with no QUALITY issues (unless its done with unique animation style like SHAFT did on ef and the gatari series). Nonetheless, animation is the key for studios to show their effort on their works. An anime show, like any other kind of media out there, captures the attention of viewers through how much ass they put on their works. Unconsciously, most viewers will be somehow attracted to their works (as the unconscious mind works in a mysterious way) as a form of admiration or appreciation. This point will be scored mainly based on fluidity, consistency and how well the CG animation (if used) blends on with the rest of the scenes.
6. Sound/Music
I'm one of those guys that doesn't really understand sound or music, but I know when and what kind of music should be played on what scenes. The voice acting aspect will be scored based on how well the sound fits the character and how well he/she have done. As for the OP/ED, I'll score it based on how much I like to listen to it, so it may be come out as more of an opinion...
7. Enjoyment
My (very subjective) personal opinion of the show. nuff' said.
8. Others
This last aspects will cover on how different the anime is than all other animes out there, the lack of this segment would mean decency. Extra information worth mentioning and other unique ideas or innovations the studio decided to do will be listed here and scored as a plus and minus scores to be added on the final score.
