I mean, you're right, we're not really afraid of an invasion, there were some concerns few weeks ago but at this point no one believes that Russia would be capable of going to war with NATO. If they were to invade more countries they'd probably focus on the ones whose independence isn't guaranteed by an massive alliance, so most likely Moldova or Georgia, but those are just speculations. When it comes to what Poles are doing internally in order to help the refugees then I can proudly say that we, as the citizens, are united and doing our best in order to help in whatever way is possible. I just feel that the government isn't doing as much as they could, but given how pathetically they have been behaving for the past few years I can't say that I'm surprised, at least they're doing a lot on the international scene. And based on what I know about the German situation I think that you guys are handling it pretty well, especially with all of the efforts directed at letting them start a new life in Germany.
Wow, those aot fans can be a handfull ⬇️
I encourage you to write anyway! Insightful writing is acquired from continuous efforts. As long as you keep at it, you will surely develop. That's great, I'd like to know your thoughts. Although I only ever read it once, I quickly grew fond of it. Maybe I should reread it with you, hoping for a different impression this time.
I often watched Evangelion in English (the ADV dub) and always thought the German sounded incredible in this scene.
-Ah yes,Gurren Lagann, I remember not liking it but I think my enjoyment did improve later on? Hopefully that happens for you. I think I saw you watched FLCL recently, are you currently examining Gainax's entire body of work? I think the last Gainax anime I saw was Magical Shopping Arcade Abenoboshi (I didn't like it)
-Thank you for sharing your background with me, I think I already said so but its always a pleasure for me to interact with people with diverse backgrounds. I'm also glad you were able to walk away from the toxic influence of pseudo-intellectuals like Ben Shapiro and Jordan Peterson.. I'm also glad your friends accepted your apologies! For the time being I won't burden you with talking about the US unless something major happens.
-Here is one recent event: A US senator (Republican) threatened another senator (Democrat) and the President by making a shitty edit of an episode of Attack on Titan where the faces of his intended victims were cropped on to the titans and his own face on that of the protagonist who cut them down. Its caused a lot of controversy and rightly so. Personally I'm appalled both by the threat and by their butchery of an anime to do it!
-And before I finished writing this message to you Kyle Rittenhouse, murderer of 2 people and attempted murderer of a 3rd is found NOT GUILTY ON ALL CHARGES!! I am beyond pissed off: this sets the dangerous legal precedent that whenever a right wing thug wants to murder a leftwing protester they only need claim self defense and they will be found not guilty. I actually expect as much but its one thing to expect something and another to see it actually happen! I am just as angry as I was over the VA Election is not more so!
-As for foreign films I have an IMDb page (or used to) if I manage to find/remember my login credentials I will send you the link.
I've actually already looked at your anime list a bit but every time I try to I get an alert from my anti-virus that gives me a Malware warning (a false positive I assume)
-On the subject of your anime list. I'm going to start with your dropped list since its the shortest: It looks like you've dropped what look like a lot of dumb Shonen or Fanservice shows. I find that understandable. Even when I was younger I was never a huge fan of shows like DBZ or anything like that (I have never watched Naruto, Bleach, or One Piece) Perhaps you're the same way? Though I do have a high tolerance for bad anime and have watched quite a few. I don't believe in dropping anything. Just when I get to the end if the show tortured me I will give a 1 or 2.
-However, on your dropped list I saw a few shows that I would like to strongly urge you to reconsider. PLEASE consider watching Naoki Uraswa's Monster from start to finish. It is a MASTERPIECE!!! It is one of the few shows I've given a 10 and felt it actually deserved it. If you're unable/unwilling then consider reading the manga instead.
-If you remember could you tell me what lead you to drop it? I imagine the problem was that its a slowly paced show/with a long episode count and that may be a bit daunting. Another factor is its not a typical anime, of all the anime that are being adapted into life action I often feel that Monster with a sufficient budget would appeal to many people who have never seen anime before. A lot of the story takes place in Germany and The Czech Republic so I also wonder if that made it difficult for you to take it seriously since being a European may make its inaccuracies more evident. Anime often struggles to accurately depict life outside of Japan. (I recently watched an anime called Babylon which suffered from that problem.)
-The other anime I want you to reconsider is Elfen Lied. You watched 3 episodes and gave it a 2 so you must have really hated it? Elfen Lied is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me. I had been an anime fan for years but in my early teens I was very passionate about it and Gantz. Many people would dismiss it as "edgy" and I see where the critique is coming from. If one is able to look past the violence and the typical fanservice/harem formula I think it has both artistic and emotional merit. Perhaps I am the one who is wrong about it and everyone who hates it are the ones who have been right about it all along?
-The antidote was to broaden my horizons through education in University, movies (especially foreign films) and studying religion (which I walked away from after learning more) The downside of this is that its all alienated me from nearly everyone where I live. My hope is to move to a place filled with like minded people.
-Well sadly this is only the beginning, it makes no sense but Biden is less popular than Trump with the American people despite doing the right thing by trying to PROTECT the population from Covid 19! They rather contract the virus and sicken others instead of making a small sacrifice for everyone's sake. My own mother was yelled at for wearing a mask when she went to a store not too long ago. They think the masks and vaccine are government attempts to enslave them. And since you mentioned it Q-Anon is only getting crazier. They though the deceased former President JFK was going to make an appearance this weekend despite the fact he was assassinated decades ago!
- So you're German? We had a few German exchange students when I was in High School. A part of me always wanted to learn German but learning languages is not one of my strong suits unfortunately. Nor is math for that matter. I hope University goes well for you and am sorry to hear that you have a condition that makes you more vulnerable to the virus! I hope you can do all you can to stay healthy! In my case I work from home as a tutor. I quit my teaching job because of the local school board refusing to enforce mask mandates/vaccinations. It was a tough decision to make. I'll be ok though. I hope.
- That's enough of that, its anime and manga time now! We must always morn the death of Miura-sensei. I first found out on a Berserk centered youtube channel. People kept posting in the comments RIP Kentaro Miura and I was like "What kind of sick joke is this!?" But it wasn't April 1st... On the subject of an ending: I want one but you're probably right. It just wouldn't be the same. Its still sad to see such an amazingly talent artist and storyteller go.
When I get a chance I plan to take a deeper dive into your MAL profile, I feel like our similarity is higher than MAL is saying. I think the problem is I feel limited by how few favorites we can have (without having to pay a fee) and its hard to decide who and what my favorites truly are. I have some unlisted favorites after all.
-Its a real shame. I had always heard Konaka was strange or eccentric in past years but I have never taken too much interest in the personal lives of creators/industry figures. I'm not one to be overly harsh on people either but he did cross a line deserving of attention. Unfortunately in recent years I discovered the anime community like video game communities has its share of toxicity. This is yet another sad reminder of that fact.
-I realized after I'd made my post that I shouldn't have assumed you were in the US like me. Though since you mentioned it I'm not surprised you're European. I tend to get along with Europeans very well compared to my fellow US citizens. So yes, I was referring to the Virginia elections. Our state was making a lot of progress over the past 10+ years but all or most of that will be undone. It was like seeing Trump elected again but on a smaller scale. I did my part and voted for the sensible candidate but apparently the majority of my fellow citizens valued their racial hatred above all else. Democrats leave a lot to be desired mainly for the reason you mentioned, they are basically a right wing party while the Republicans are a fascist death cult built on white grievance and conspiracy theories+ Christian fundamentalist dogma not all too different from the Taliban in Afghanistan. I'd also compare the Democrats to the Weimar Republic, too weak/unwilling to do what must be done to save the country. Hopefully history will prove otherwise but what I say isn't merely hyperbole.
Sorry if that was too long/too much. I live here and studied Political Science and International Relations in University so its a topic I'm passionate about.
I don't read or watch as much stuff as I used to but I'll take that advice. I mean if one can survive the Berserk hiatuses one can wait for anything no? RIP Kentaro Miura :(
I've had a rough week (I'm from VA) so hearing one of my all time favorite anime writers had gone insane didn't help any.
Anyway, its a pleasure to have run across you. I hope you enjoy the Aku no Hana anime. It received a great deal of hate but I found myself respecting it for daring to be different stylistically. Though it does disappoint me we never got a full adaptation of the story in anime form. Even so I still prefer the manga. I am looking forward to reading Blood on the Tracks because the cover art and synopsis intrigue me but I can't bring myself to read a publishing manga.
