can't really agree with your RahXephon review , you skipped parts , Thats not what you do in a complicated anime, If you ask me, RahXephon is one of the greatest mecha / mysteryAngst/psychological plus what they call crazy animes I've seen in life ,I did like it better than NGE , maybe cause how strong the character focus was , I never expected much from the show when i started but i knew it was similar to NGE . And for me, it turned out way better than that . This show is heavily driven by art and psychology . And all in all, This was a very character driven anime , probably one of the greatest romance stories i have seen in Mecha . The ending really did it . It's was an mecha anime that showed a terrific love story at the end , So it was pretty incredible . The whole concept and setting . All in all , RahXephon is for people who like complicated stories
No problem regarding how long it was. I read Ichigo 100% at the beginning of 2011 and was raving mad for it for a year. I sent all the same message to people who mark "Nishino as their favorites".
Like you, Nishino made the series special. She an abnormal character that broke all bounds, made by cliche's. She even had more character development than the protagonist. Unlike the other girls, she was more "real" and very mature for her age. I'm sure you can tell that Aya was too shy and Satsuki was too agressive and Nishino is just right in the middle.
All the girls were great in their own right. Satsuki being with Junpei, wouldn't progress his hobbies and goals. Aya would hold back his potentials (he was too dependent on her and vice versa). Nishino was just "perfect"! She was their for the support and wasn't too influential on his goals.
Other Manga's I enjoy:
Shingeki no Kyojin - unique plot. The author knows how to put terror into the story.
Mouryou no Yurikago - same as the above, but its been shaky recently, when the cast solve the mystery behind the murders
Beelzebub - just funny (more focus toward comedy).
Satou Kashi no Dangan wa Uchinukenai - friendship between 2 girls, with a hint of yuri, but the ending was very sad.
Yubisaki Milk Tea - protagonist is a cross dresser. He loves to girls and himself (girl personality). The loli blonde reminded me of Nishino, mostly because of the relationship position, development and what not's.
Onani Master Kurosawa - protagonist who masturbates, making parody of other series and it will later get dramatic.
Alive: Saishuu Shinkateki Shounen - The blonde reminds of Nishino, that's why I started reading, but the story got good with action and plot.
"Good Ending" - not on top of my list, but I like the references between Ichigo 100% and itself.
- Haibane Renmei (is meer slice of life, drama)
LOL... A lot of my faves happen to be wimps who develop into true badasses. Take Kei Kurono from Gantz for example: a total prick that thinks with his crotch becomes a kid that can protect himself & others from anything this crazy mangaka is willing to throw at him. Seriously, check out Gantz. Don't worry about the length, since the lack of dialogue will make it easy to blow through them chapters.
I've never seen B-Shock but I had the same experience just now whilst reading Love Celeb. I was reading the final chapter in volume 6; the couple were final back together & the guy is just about to propose to her then BAM! out of nowhere the Chinese mafia raid the ship and kidnap her... I am fuckin' serious. I have read some unbelievable things, like Gantz, but this is just plain retarded and after that incident they just play it off as some kind of test or some other bullshit. Those 2 final chapters in volume 7 were completely pointless. Just proves that this mangaka couldn't write for shit, since the final volume was only 120 pages (80 pages short).
Haven't started Princess Lover yet (waiting til it finishes) but my fave anime of the season happens to be Aoi Hana but if you include last season then it would have to be Full Metal Alchemist 2.
Yeah I wanted to give my Tsukune more self awareness. I mean what guy in that situation wouldn't notice a bunch of girls submitting themselves to him. ^_^
Yeah there's nothing I hate more than seeing one of those typical pathetic protagonist, you find in a lot of harems & shounen manga (e.g. the pussy from Hitman Reborn). But I also like seeing one of those pathetic protagonist evolve into something great.
I found the world of Juuni Kokki to simple in design, yet diverse & complex in it's execution. I also like how it follows individual people's journeys & how something happen in one kingdom can affect another. Like when Emperor Kou (or was it Kyou) died, it caused a major explosion in immigration to other Kingdoms. And just seeing Youko go from annoying bitch to Xena warrior princess is great in itself. What happens during eps. 25 & 35 again? Was it the Taika arc?
