Hello there and welcome to my profile! I'm not really very active on MAL that often but I'm trying to engage more in the online anime and manga community. At this point in time, I'm trying my hand at writing reviews, so we'll see how that goes. I watched anime starting at a very young age; my first anime was Detective Conan, and I still watch it to this day for the intriguing mysteries and nostalgia factor. I lost touch with anime during elementary school, but got back into it in my middle and high school years, become a self-proclaimed "weeb". I also plan on reading and getting into more manga in the future, as I think the artwork in manga is some of the most beautiful work ever. At this point in time I don't really know how anime and manga and weeb culture in general will factor into my future, but it'll always be a big part and influence on my life.
My favorite genres of anime are mystery, shounen, and historical/fantasy (though not really isekai). I like both tearjerkers and lots of flashy fight scenes. For these reasons, some of my favorite anime across a broad spectrum are Violet Evergarden, Terror in Resonance, Made in Abyss, Attack on Titan, and Naruto/Shippuden.
An aspect of weeb culture that I think is sometimes really overlooked is the presence of music and its impact in anime. I love Kalafina and Yuki Kajiura, and they have grown to become one of favorite artists of all time. I also love Sawano Hiroyuki's compositions and lots of Aimer's catchy rock hits. Though I can't understand a lick of Japanese, music like Kajiura's and Hiroyuki's makes me feel nostalgic for memories and imagery I've never even had, something that I've almost never been able to experience with other Western artists. So there, I'm also a self-proclaimed J-pop/rock connoisseur. (See below for my top ten favorite Kalafina songs! Just my opinion, don't hate on me for it)
Some hobbies of mine: Competitive swimming and rowing, playing classical piano, acting, singing in the shower singing anime ops/eds where I think no one can hear me, trying my best to draw in an anime/manga style and failing, SAO memory defrag, writing occasional poetry, and screwing around here on MAL saying that I'll procrastinate later.
