Keep in mind too, if you start, the first 3 volumes are going to paint a very different picture of what the series really is.

Go back and re-read them after you finish volume 14, and then you'll understand.

Oh, it's nothing but substance; don't be confused by that. The story woudln't work without it and it's not just for spectacle or anything like that, just saying, despite that, it's incredibly tough to handle if you aren't prepared.

I feel it's more emotional violence than anything, than physical. Characters you love, the things that happen to them are some of the worst things that could possibly ever happen to someone. It sticks with you, even more-so when you're invested in the characters and their stories. More so than any over-the-top gore could possibly match.

Too bad graphic violence is a put off, because a little manga called Berserk falls in line with a lot of your overall interests.

But yeah.... it's graphic and both the most depressing story of all time, yet the most inspiration. You gotta delve really deep into the abyss to showcase that level of emotion though.
