TeoSilver: Great question. I find female characters who meet a sudden tragic fate very powerful on an emotional level and more memorable than their lead character counterparts, especially those with elaborate character designs worthy of a lead character. Kisaragi is introduced as an undexterous personal secretary who initially appears to be a main character... I NEVER would have guessed what happens to her shortly thereafter. :( Like the original Star Wars trilogy's Boba Fett, there's a certain allure and mental stimulation to these enigmatic characters with untold stories who the viewer never gets to know.

Believe me or not, my favorite characters from Code Geass are Marika, Liliana, and Monica... Marika has a tragic back story with her brother that would have been SO gripping had it been explored (check out this site's Valkyries' Club for details), and Monica has such a visually compelling and beautiful character design that warrants SO much more screen time than she got. I still get chills down my spine every time I see a scene they're in.
